Reading I: Isaiah 50: 4c-9a Even though he has experienced much suffering, the prophet exudes confidence because God is his help.

Reading II: James 2: 14-18 This famous passage makes an obvious observation. If a person accepts the facts of God’s revelation, then a certain way of life, his/ her “works,” should reflect that belief, with all its expected consequences.

The Gospel: Mark 8: 27-35 The first self-originated “poll” from Jesus seeks to know what the outside world thinks of Him. Then comes the first Passion prediction and its consequences for authentic disci-pleship.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of our parish, this year’s Basket Party theme is “Through the Years”. (Depending on your generation, Kenny Rogers just came to mind!) But regardless of your age, hopefully some creative basket ideas also came to mind so you can begin planning your basket donation!

All donations received by the Early Bird Deadline of 10/3 will be eligible to win the Early Bird prize basket. The final dead-line for all basket and door prize donations is October 17 th .

Similar to last year, the basket party will be held over four days (Wed, 10/20 -Sun, 10/24) to allow for virtual and by-appointment viewing of the donated baskets. The drawing will then be live-streamed on Sunday, October 24th .

Online tickets sales begin Saturday, September 25th . You will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets in person after all the Masses the weekend of October 2/3. Ticket price remains at $20 for 30 chances and one door prize raffle ticket. Note that if you purchase your basket party ticket by October 3rd , you will receive an extra door prize raffle ticket.

St. Columbkill has held many successful bas-ket parties through the years, and this year’s will be no exception. Thanks in advance for your support of this major parish fundraiser!

100th Anniversary NEWS

There will be an information session about the Rite of

Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA on Thursday Sep-tember 16th at 6:30 PM in the office conference room. If you or someone you know would like more informa-tion about the Catholic faith or if you are a baptized Catholic but have not received your first Communion or Confirmation RCIA is tailored for you.

Margaret Chovanes will be available in the narthex after the Masses on Sept.11th & 12th to offer more informa-tion and answer questions regarding the RCIA process.

Contact Margaret Chovanes @ [email protected] or 610-248-2171 with

questions or concerns.

You are invited: A few spots have opened up to spend an hour with the Lord in Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Please prayer-fully consider if you would like to make this commitment and contact the parish office with your name, hour and phone number. Tues: 1 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm & 5 pm; Weds.: 12 am & 3 pm; Thurs: 9 am, 5 pm, & 8 pm How does one spend an hour before Jesus exposed in the Blessed Sacrament? This hour Jesus wants you to spend with Him is spent any way you wish. Bring your prayer book, read the Bible, pray the rosary, or just sit, relax and enjoy the sweet peace that comes from simply being in the Presence of God. You may feel that you can't pray well. Don't let this discourage you. The mere fact that you take time out at a specific time each week to spend an hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacra-ment pleases Him very much and is in itself a prayer of great

faith.

Prayer to St. Francis Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console;

To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen.

As the somber 20th anniversary of September 11th 2001 transitions into history,

Let us continue to pray in thanks and remembrance, for all those who selflessly gave

their lives that day. ---------------------------------------------

The Knights of Columbus was one of the first organizations to mobilize in the aftermath of 9/11, offering immediate financial

assistance to the devastated families of fallen police, firefighters, and emergency personnel, regardless of their religious affiliation in a program called the “Heroes Fund.”

---------------------------------------------------- The St Columbkill Knights of Columbus Council # 16544 has

been awarded Star Council Status for fraternal year 2010/2021, the highest distinction possible by Supreme Council! This is an exemplary honor recognizing the hard work, faith, dedication and generosity of our brother knights. With this momentum,

we will endeavor to perpetuate this honor in the coming fraternal year.

Please consider becoming a Knight and help propel us toward Star Council Status again in fraternal year 2021/2022 by serving

our Parish and world community.

LIFTING OUR FAMILIES IN PRAYER

Family brings us great joy and happiness. They can also be a source

of worry and concern...”Is my child dating/marrying the right per-

son?” “Are my elderly parents safe at home?” “Will my son, daugh-

ter or grandchildren return to the faith?” “Will my spouse find

work?” At some point in our lives, all of us will face these, or simi-

lar, questions. Often, we have little control over how others live

their lives and what will become of them. One thing we can do,

regardless of their age, is pray, so if you or a family member needs

prayer, who better to turn to than our Lord and his Blessed

Mother? As St. Paul instructed the early Christians, “Worry about

nothing and pray about everything.”

We invite you to join us on the 4th Wednesday of the month at

7:00 pm as we dedicate an hour of our time to lift our families,

September 12 - Week 34 – As I continue to grow I

am gaining about a half of a pound each week right now. I occasionally get the hiccups and my mom can

see when it happens because sometimes there is a

rhythmic movement across her belly. Are you remembering to pray for me and my mom? “Jesus, Mary and Joseph. I love

you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child

that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

CELEBRATING ONE HUNDRED YEARS

OF FAITH 1921-2021

The Human Concerns Ministry has been conducting an

Awareness Program for “Unborn Children in Danger of

Abortion,” over the last several months, which will con-

tinue through the birth of the child. Hopefully, you have

seen the weekly notices in the parish bulletin that de-

scribed the development of the child and were inspired

to include the “unborn children in danger of abortion” in

your prayers. In celebration of the birth of babies every-

where that have been saved by your weekly prayer, we

are hosting a baby shower and diaper bag collection to

benefit Birthright of Pottstown. A crib will be set up in

the narthex of the church from October 9-17 to collect

unwrapped new baby shower items and new or gently

used diaper bags. New items that you could donate in-

clude size 1, 2, or 3 disposable diapers, crib sheets and

receiving blankets, baby lotion, baby shampoo, baby

wipes and refills, changing pads, burp clothes, Onesies,

diaper cream, 0 to 3 month clothing, large maternity

tops, and Dreft baby laundry detergent. Gently used

clothing up to size 18-months may also be do-

nated. Anyone who would like to make a mone-

tary donation may place cash in the offertory

basket in an envelope marked “Birthright,” or

checks payable to “Birthright.” Please continue to

pray for those children who may be in danger of

abortion.

We would love to have you be part of our team.

Widow and Widowers Grief Support The next “REACH OUT” session will be Sunday September 12th at St Columbkill’s office meeting room. The following meeting will be on Sunday September 26th at 1 PM at MBS’ Fr Schneider Hall at 1 PM. In general most people underestimate the length and severity of their grief. At times our expectations are unrealistic and assistance is insufficient. Our Reach-Out sessions can help. We ask for your prayers at this difficult time for those who have lost a loved one. For more information and for anyone who has suffered a loss of any one close to them, please call Dn. Mike Boyle at 484-336-9849. SPIRITUAL DIRECTION: “Our Hearts Are Restless Until They

Rest In You “ St. Augustine in his “Confessions” reminds us

that in our restlessness is God calling us to a deeper relation-

ship with Him. One way to grow deeper in your faith and to

develop a closer relationship with God is to consider teaming

up with a trained Spiritual Director. St. Columbkill is fortu-

nate in that one of our fellow parishioners, Kevin Martin, is a

trained spiritual Director ( trained at Neumann University,

Aston Pa where he earned a Masters Degree in Pastoral Care

& Counseling/ Spiritual Direction trac.) For informaiton

please contact Kevin Martin at 610-310-7077 or kmar-

[email protected]

BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL: Many thanks to those who

have made a pledge to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Mak-

ing a six-month pledge to the Appeal allows you to maxi-

mize the amount that you may give by making monthly

setup with six $20 installments. Remember, every gift

counts, no matter how small. Your generosity funds the

annual budget for 6 important Diocesan ministries in our

area. You can make your gift online at FaithHopeCharity-
