Catechism of the Catholic Church

478. What care must be given to the dying? The dying have a right to live the last moments of their earthly lives with dignity and, above all, to be sustained with prayer and the sacraments that prepare them to meet the living God. Further reading: CCC 2299 479. How are the bodies of the deceased to be treated? The bodies of the departed must be treated with love and respect. Their cremation is permitted provided that it does not demonstrate a denial of faith in the resurrection of the body. Further reading: CCC 2300-2301 480. What does the Lord ask of every person in regard to peace? The Lord proclaimed "Blessed are the peacemak-ers" (Matthew 5:9). He called the peace of heart and de-nounced the immorality of anger which is a desire for revenge for some evil suffered. He also denounced hatred which leads one to wish evil on one's neighbor. These attitudes, if voluntary and consented to in matters of great importance, are mortal sins against charity. Further reading: CCC 2302-2303 481. What is peace in this world? Peace in this world, which is required for the respect and development of human life, is not simply the absence of war or a balance of power between adversaries. It is "the tranquility of order" (Saint Augustine), "The work of jus-tice" (Isaiah 32:17) and the effect of charity. Earthly peace is the image and fruit of the peace of Christ. Further reading: CCC 2304-2305 482. What is required for earthly peace? Earthly peace requires the equal distribution and safe-guarding of the goods of persons, free communication among human beings, respect for the dignity of persons and peoples, and the assiduous practice of justice and fra-ternity. Further reading: CCC 2304, 2307-2308

1. Kick fear in the face it & own it

Part of the reason that we don’t want to deal with the issue at hand is because we are scared. What’s going to happen if I say something? What will they think if I cry? At some point we get tired of the running and we stop. If you’re reading this and you’re running away from something, STOP and face it. Give it to Christ. Pope Benedict says, “The world offers you comfort, you were not made for comfort; you were made for greatness.”

You were born to be great and in order to live out the life Christ is calling you to — own whatever is trying to take control of your life and hand it over to the One who has your back.

2. Trust Him Remember that everything happens for a reason. God can and will bring good out of negative experiences. We have to make the effort to surrender all of our grace filled moments as well as our hurt, pain, and disappointments to Him and ask His help. Look at the crucifix and remember that from this the greatest of evils, God brought about the greatest good – the resurrection and our salvation. Source: http://lifeteen.com/blog/rest/

YOUTH HUMOR OF THE WEEK

From Across the Pond

At a PREP Class in England, the teacher wanted to explore the children's notion of God.

She began the lesson with the question, "Timmy, who is God?" Timmy is six years old.

His brow furrowed as he thought about the question he had been asked. After a few

seconds, a smile came to his face. "God," he said, "is the man who saved the Queen."

And YES God and probably the Queen smiled!

Father Marty’s Corner

This coming week we will celebrate on November 1 the Solemnity of All Saints and on November 2 the Memorial of All Souls. All Saints Day is a holy day of obligation. All Souls does not have an obligation. However, it is a beautiful custom to attend mass on All Souls Day if it is possible. We pray to all those who have gone to heaven on All Saints Day. We pray for those not yet in glory but rather completing purgatory and awaiting our prayers to get them into the kingdom. We are reminded throughout the whole month of November that we are invited to pray for the dead who cannot pray for themselves. Please embrace the Spiritual Work of Mercy that calls us to pray for the living and the dead. We have three Masses on All Souls Day. We have our annual Memorial Mass on Friday. Then throughout the whole month we are called to pray by attending extra masses, making a Holy Hour, praying the Rosary or including any type of prayer for the dead. We also have in the rear of the church near the outdoor Pieta statue a Book of the Dead. This book con-tains the names inscribed in the past but we display it each year to add the names of our dead who have passed from the land of the dying to the land of the living over the past year. These are all opportunities to pray our loved ones and those forgotten into the glory of heaven.

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord

and let perpetual light shine upon them May they rest in peace

May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law tested him by asking, "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."

Did you know? That Nikolaos of Myra was born in Patara, a land that is part of present-day Turkey, around 280 A. D. Yes, he became St. Nicholas a Christian bishop who helped the needy. After his death, the legend of his gift-giving grew. “St. Nick” transformed into the legendary character called Santa Claus, who brings Christmas presents to children around the world. So YES...there is a Santa Claus :) !! Good old St. Nick! Question: Who founded the Knights of Columbus and in what country was it founded? Last week's Answer: What color vestment does the priest wear on the 3rd Sunday in Advent? Why? On the 3rd Sunday of Advent the priest will nor-mally wear “Rose” colored vestments (not pink!). Advent is a time of penance, and so the ordinary liturgical color for Advent is violet. On the third Sunday of Advent, which is also called Gaudete (Latin: "Rejoice") Sunday, we recognize the joyful anticipation of the season that will culminate in the birth of Christ on Christmas by changing the liturgical color to rose. Rose is a "brightening" of the ordinary violet and thus symbolizes joy. Also, the Introit of the Mass begins with the word “Rejoice!”

And you can look all of this up!
