It should be a time to work on strengthening our relationship with God through prayer, fasting, and giving. Daily opportunities for prayer include saying morning, meal and bedtime prayers, reading the bible, reciting the rosary or Chaplet of Divine Mercy, visiting the adoration chapel at our church, and participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I encourage all of our families to join us for weekly Mass, and recitation of the Stations of the Cross following this service. In addition, St. Catherine of Siena Church will conduct a parish mission March 19-22 nd and I encourage as many families as possible to attend. Throughout the Old Testament, people covered themselves in ashes and fasted in order to express sorrow for their sins. Practicing self-denial in small things strengthens our will to resist sins. We may choose to give up sweets, video games, smart phones, soda, junk foods, or social media. An alternative to sacrificing by giving something up may include performing a daily act of kindness or helping and praying for others each day. Finally, we encourage all of our students to perform acts of service. They may help a next door neighbor, a local charity or give of their time and talents in some other manner. We will be collecting donations for Catholic Relief Services throughout Lent and encourage our students to give up an ice cream treat or other activity in support of this effort. Just a reminder that March 10 th is the deadline for early registration, as well as, our “Parent Satisfaction Survey”, located on our web page. I encourage all of you to get your registration completed so that we can plan adequately for the next school year. In addition, we would like you to take a few minutes of your time and complete our survey. Your opinion is important to us, and we need your feedback to make improvements to our school. Please note that IOWA achievement tests will be given next week to all students in grades 1 st through 8 th . We request that all students be present for testing, and that all doctor’s appointments during this time be rescheduled. In order to maximize performance on this test, please ensure that your child receives a good night’s rest, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time. Following spring break, parent/teacher/student conferences will be conducted on Friday, March 24 th . In order to be counted as present, all students must attend their scheduled conference with their parent. In addition, the library will conduct a used book sale in the gym on this day. I hope that each of you has a restful and safe Spring Break! Peace and blessings to you all, Mrs. Haidee Todora, Principal
