A Student’s Prayer for a New School Year
Lord Jesus, I ask for Your help as I begin
this new school year.
Allow me to experience Your presence in
the many blessings You put before me.
Open my eyes to the new challenges and
exciting opportunities that this
new school year brings.
Open my heart and mind to new
friends and new teachers.
Give me a generous spirit to be
enthusiastic with my studies and courage to
accept new opportunities.
Help me to be attentive to my teachers and
let me experience Your presence in
my new friends.
Jesus, inspire me to do my best this year!
Amen
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Children & Friends,
I would like to welcome everyone to the start of the year. We have a few new staff members joining us - Sarah Potts an Assistant Principal and class teacher in 4G, Debbie Weymouth in Kindy Gold and Amanda Shaw in the office. We wish them all every happiness and success. I acknowledge the way in which the staff made our students feel comfortable and successful in their New Year level and classroom. The rooms have all been carefully prepared during the holiday break.
Our Parent Information Meetings will be held next Monday 11th February 2019:
1.30pm to 2.00pm - Kindergarten and Pre-Primary (Session 1) 2.00pm to 2.30pm - Kindergarten and Pre-Primary (Session 2)
5.30pm to 6.00pm - Year 1 to 6 (Session 1) 6.00pm to 6.30pm - Year 1 to 6 (Session 2)
The Kindergarten sessions will be held in the School Resource Centre. All sessions for Pre-Primary 1 to 6 will be held in the classrooms.
The Student Executive body had their badges blessed and presented at the School Mass this morning. We wish them all well in their leadership roles for 2019.
We look forward to the new canteen menu online, more information is contained within the newsletter.
The children have come to school looking beautifully presented in their school uniforms. Please ensure your child/children are wearing the correct uniform and wearing it correctly – a copy of the school uniform requirements is included in this newsletter. Ensuring the children are wearing the correct uniform and wearing it correctly helps them to develop pride in themselves and in our wonderful school. Hair colour should be natural and fringes should be kept short. Hairstyles should be conservative in nature.
I wish everyone a happy and peaceful term. God Bless,
Greg Green - Principal

SCHOOL PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AFTER HOURS
At the present time, children are playing on the school playground equipment after school. The school is considered private property and as the Principal of the school I am responsible for the welfare of any person on school premises. Under our Public Liability Insurance, there is a duty of care to provide a safe environment. If the school foresees possible problems, or potential claims, it is a condition under our Public Liability Policy to take “reasonable care and precautions to prevent personal injury and/or property damage.” If this reasoning is applied to the use of our playground equipment outside school hours, there is a cause for concern. I have been advised by Catholic Church Insurance to ban all children from playing on school playground equipment outside school hours even if parents or guardians are present. This is particularly relevant as we have our new nature play area in Pre-primary.

SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP NEWS
St Anthony’s Uniform Shop
Welcome to our New Families & welcome back to our returning families!
The School Uniform Shop is open every Wednesday 8:45am – 2:45pm during school school terms
ONLINE ORDERING IS AVAILABLE with www.QuickCliq.com.au
Please ensure your child has their correct Uniform for the Start of Term 1 2019
SPORTS SHOES
With the start of the New Year parents are purchasing new school shoes. I would respectfully ask parents to be mindful of the school uniform code when making purchases. Parents are asked to ensure that their children wear sports shoes that are conservative in style and definitely not fluoro to school. A shoe that is predominately black or white would be acceptable. Some minor colouring in the shoe detailing may be unavoidable and this is also acceptable.
The everyday shoe outside of sports remains strictly a black lace up shoe.

A Message From Diane Verson – Social Worker
Dear Parents, Welcome back to all our St. Anthony’s families! I hope you all have a wonderful break and are feeling refreshed, excited and ready to tackle 2019. It takes a village to raise a child is an African proverb which means that it takes an entire community of different people interacting with children in order for a child to experience and grow in a safe environment. We at St Anthony’s always endeavour to work alongside parents and families to ensure the best outcomes for your child. I hope 2019 will continue to be a fun and rewarding year for us all.
Diane Verson Social Worker
I dreamed I stood in a studio
and watched two sculptors there,
the clay they used was a young child’s mind
and they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher; the tools being used
were books and music and art,
one parent with a guiding hand
and a gentle, loving heart.
Day after day the teacher toiled
with touch that was deft and sure,
while the parent laboured just as hard
and polished and smoothed it o’er.
When at last their task was done
they were proud of what they had wrought,
for the things they had moulded into the child
could neither be sold nor bought.
And both agreed they would have failed
If they had worked alone;
for behind the parent stood the school
and behind the teacher, the home.
