WELCOME FATHER LEONARD & BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL MASS We would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome Father Leonard St Anthony’s as our Parish Priest. Father Leonard may be familiar to some students and families as he has worked with our parish community in the past. We look forward to getting to know him gaining wisdom from his spiritual guidance. Today students from Year One to Year Six participated in a mass and the students received a special blessing by Father Leonard for the commencement of the new school year.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM 2019 Information sheets for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation will be sent home with parents on the Parent Information Evening on Monday. SCHOOL PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AFTER HOURS

At the present time, children are playing on the school playground equipment after school. The school is considered private property and as the Principal of the school I am responsible for the welfare of any person on school premises. Under our Public Liability Insurance, there is a duty of care to provide a safe environment. If the school foresees possible problems, or potential claims, it is a condition under our Public Liability Policy to take “reasonable care and precautions to prevent personal injury and/or property damage.” If this reasoning is applied to the use of our playground equipment outside school hours, there is a cause for concern. I have been advised by Catholic Church Insurance to ban all children from playing on school playground equipment outside school hours even if parents or guardians are present. This is particularly relevant as we have our new nature play area in Pre-primary.

As of 2019 the ordering of lunches will be by "The Packed Lunchbox". The Packed Lunchbox provides healthy alternatives to kids favourite foods offering a 3 course lunchbox including a main, fruit or veg cup and a snack on the side. Lunches will be able to be ordered on Wednesdays to Fridays only by 8am on the day of delivery. A copy of this terms menu is at the end of the newsletter. More information including the menu and how to register can be found at found https://www.packedlunchbox.com.au/

SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP NEWS

St Anthony’s Uniform Shop

Welcome to our New Families & welcome back to our returning families!

The School Uniform Shop is open every Wednesday 8:45am – 2:45pm during school school terms

ONLINE ORDERING IS AVAILABLE with www.QuickCliq.com.au

Please ensure your child has their correct Uniform for the Start of Term 1 2019

SPORTS SHOES

With the start of the New Year parents are purchasing new school shoes. I would respectfully ask parents to be mindful of the school uniform code when making purchases. Parents are asked to ensure that their children wear sports shoes that are conservative in style and definitely not fluoro to school. A shoe that is predominately black or white would be acceptable. Some minor colouring in the shoe detailing may be unavoidable and this is also acceptable.

The everyday shoe outside of sports remains strictly a black lace up shoe.

A Message From Diane Verson – Social Worker

Dear Parents, Welcome back to all our St. Anthony’s families! I hope you all have a wonderful break and are feeling refreshed, excited and ready to tackle 2019. It takes a village to raise a child is an African proverb which means that it takes an entire community of different people interacting with children in order for a child to experience and grow in a safe environment. We at St Anthony’s always endeavour to work alongside parents and families to ensure the best outcomes for your child. I hope 2019 will continue to be a fun and rewarding year for us all.

Diane Verson Social Worker

I dreamed I stood in a studio

and watched two sculptors there,

the clay they used was a young child’s mind

and they fashioned it with care.

One was a teacher; the tools being used

were books and music and art,

one parent with a guiding hand

and a gentle, loving heart.

Day after day the teacher toiled

with touch that was deft and sure,

while the parent laboured just as hard

and polished and smoothed it o’er.

When at last their task was done

they were proud of what they had wrought,

for the things they had moulded into the child

could neither be sold nor bought.

And both agreed they would have failed

If they had worked alone;

for behind the parent stood the school

and behind the teacher, the home.
