Message from the desk of the Pastor

My dear people of God,

Parables are never as simple as they appear on the surface. They always carry a deeper meaning which is applicable to daily living.

Our Lord instructs us that we are always to be vigilant and awaiting the time of his visitation. As we begin to conclude this liturgical year with the month of November, the leaves have fallen, nature is dying and there is no more growth. Winter has arrived. The Church will increas-ingly remind us of death and judgement. That is because as followers of Christ we should always live as though we are ready for the final time of our visitation.

However, Christ calls us to himself constantly throughout the time. His call is often in the whispering of the breeze. When Elijah went into the wilderness to escape for his life, God came to him in the whispering of the breeze. He experienced an earthquake, thunder and a storm, but the Lord God was not there. I think we learn a very valuable lesson here. The prophet was waiting and listening for God. In that situation he experienced God.

No matter how hectic our lives may be, we need to take time to wait and listen for God. Our beautiful Church is a magnificent sacred place where one can experience silence and simply look at our Lord in the tabernacle of the Most High. Making visits to our Lord in the Blessed Sac-rament is a wonderful and consoling way to allow Christ to enter into our lives. The Church is the house of God. We treat it with reverence and peace. Each first Friday our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament is exposed on our Altar where we can adore and listen to God speaking to us. I invite you to take advantage of the wonderful opportunity. Let us always be prepared for Christ’s daily visitation in our lives.

May God bless you.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Joseph

God never said the right thing would be the easy thing.

Usually the dreams we are working towards are the hardest to accomplish. There are several steps you have to take and

in the midst of it all, you are going to have struggles. You will have tears and sweat, but you are going to keep on going. No one said it was going to be easy, but it will all be worth it once you have accomplished your dream. Whatever it may be, keep fighting for it and don’t give up now because what if you were so close in accomplishing it? You will never know if you give up now. Doing the right thing is never easy, but it is the most rewarding. Never give up on your dreams just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. There will be people trying to talk you out of it and you shouldn’t let them get to you. Stay strong and persevere. You have no idea about all of the blessings God has for you. Remember, good things come to those who wait! Don’t quit now because you will regret it later. Please take the time to listen to Dream For You by Casting Crowns. “So come on, let Me dream, let Me dream for you. I am strong when you’re weak and I’ll carry you. So let go of your plan, be caught by My hand. I’ll show you what I can do when I dream for you. I have a dream for you." Kylie

Please keep in your prayers, especially through these upcoming holidays, all who were affected by the floods. Even though we don’t see large piles of debris there are families still out of their homes, sleeping on their floors, in trailers, have no insurance, waiting on FE-

MA……. It is devastating.

And remember those who have lost loved ones, the Poor Souls in Purgatory, the lonely, in the nursing homes, those affected by natural disasters, shootings, lost their jobs, seeking jobs, in the hospitals, depressed, have no joy, grumpy, bitter, look down on others…...etc. We pray for the Lord’s guidance. Without God, there is no Hope.

Preparation for Confirmation in 2019 has begun! Students in grades 9 and 10 will meet once a month this year and next to prepare for the Sacrament on Confirmation which will be in Spring, 2019. Please pray for our 17 students who are beginning this journey toward being "Filled with the Fullness of the Holy Spirit". If you know of any students in those grades who are

interested, please let us know.

Don’t forget the St. Thomas Food Pantry with the Holiday’s coming up and so many people misplaced after the floods. Current needs are meat (ground beef, sausage, chicken, etc.), beans (pintos, red, black, etc.), clean grocery store bags. Monetary donations are also welcome. If you decide to donate perishable items, check in at the parish office so we can make arrange-ments to take the items to the food pantry dur-ing regular pantry hours (Tuesday-Thursday, before noon) or you can make arrangements to deliver the items directly. The pantry has re-frigerators and freezers.

If you wish to deliver items directly: St. Thomas Food Pantry is at 415 S. Erskine in Angleton, Texas 77515 Call (979)849-9458 or (979)848-1285

Erskine street is located on the Old Business 288, headed south, the signal before you cross the overpass to the train tracks. Take a right onto Erskine Street. Sign on left, St. Thomas Pantry and Resale shop on left at stop sign.

November 21, 2017 Meeting

Please Pray for Priests

Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5) May your priest have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priest be holy, filled with the fire of your love seek-ing nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.

St. John Vianney, pray for us.
