St Andrew’s Church School Newsletter 6 th May 2019 MESSAGE FROM MRS JAYNE I feel immensely proud and privileged to have been appointed substantive Headteacher. As Louise Leach said in her letter ‘Inclusion, creativity and helping each child to flourish to be the best that they can remains central to our ethos’. I intend to work with and build on the legacy created as we move the school forward on the next part of our journey together. St Andrew’s is a very special place and this is rooted in the strength of our community and the relationships we build together. Sue East, Tam Stephen and I had a very strong relationship and it was always a team approach. Tam and I know that Sue would be very proud of how everyone has grown and developed over the last few months through challenging times. We have a busy Term ahead with SATs for KS1 and 2 and we are currently planning the next School Without Walls events in Term 6. We also have STEAM day to look forward to and further information will follow soon. I have been very touched by the messages of congratulations, cards and gifts. Thankyou ! My Husband Phil and our children (young adults!) George, Lilli and Gavin are also very pleased. Thank you to the staff team and Governors for all your support and confidence. The fairy dust continues to be sprinkled! Warm wishes Mrs Jayne TEAM JOSH AND RUBY Ruby and Josh in year 2 recently completed a fundraising walk that lead them to the top of Pen Y Fan snowy peak in South Wales. They raised £105 for their class to partake in a Tropical Discovery workshop where they will learn about and interact with wildlife from around the world. SCHOOL COUNCIL SPRING FAIR A Spring Fair is being organised by the School Council and Friends on Thursday 23 May after school. There will be cakes and crafts for sale plus lots of activities organised by the children to raise funds for playground equipment. Please come along and support the event.

An IMPORTANT message from Virgin Care’s Immunisation Team Leader

Dear Parents,

You may be aware that there have been some cases of Mumps in the Bath area recently.

If your child has not received two MMR (measles, mumps and rubella (German measles)) vaccines they are at risk of contracting any of these diseases.

Therefore we are offering you the opportunity to bring your child to a community clinic to obtain this vital vaccine if they have not started or completed the course. To book into the clinic or if you are unsure and want to check your child's immunisation history please call 01225 838270 or 0333 234 1125.

St Andrew’s is joining the National Walking Month!

May is National Walking Month! The evenings are lighter for longer, and this makes it the perfect time to get outside, and get walking. Walking has a whole host of different health benefits: it is good for your heart, it gives you more energy (as it boosts your circulation and increases the oxygen supply around your body), it’s a full body workout as many muscles in your body are activated during walking ; it makes you happy (a brisk walk can be a great helping hand if you are suffering from depression, anxiety or feeling stressed). As part of our focus on Wellbeing, on the week

commencing the 20th May . St Andrew’s will

join the national campaign with an inter-classroom walking challenge that inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose ‘human power’ for their journey to school. Points will be awarded each day to everyone who has walked to school to see which class has earned the most points by the end of the week!

A message for ALL parents/carers, pupils and staff

FREE TICKETS FOR FAMILIES FOR ‘CONCERT FOR THE PEOPLE OF BATH’

We’d like to invite you, your pupils, staff and their families to attend our ‘Concert for the People of Bath’ on Thursday 23rd May 2018 at 7.30pm at The Bath Forum as our guests. Thanks to the generosity of the Roper Family Charitable Trust we are offering 50 FREE tickets to every school in Bath & North East Somerset to our concert that encourages future generations to develop their love of classical music. This wonderful evening of music making features two BBC Young Musician finalists. Isata Kanneh- Mason gives her second performance at The Bath Festival with Clara Schumann’s piano concerto, and BBC Proms star Jess Gillam, who took the Last Night of the Proms by storm, performs Escapades, a Saxophone Concerto by John Williams (title soundtrack to Steven Spielberg’s film Catch Me If You Can). This fizzing evening of music is brought to a close by Ravel’s blazing Bolero (remember Torvill & Dean in the 1984 Olympics?).

Tickets are offered on a first come, first served basis. There is a sign-up sheet in the school office and this will be available to you on TUESDAY May 8th

If successful you will be able to collect your tickets on the door of the concert by stating our school name and your name. Tickets will only be issued to names listed on the returned sign-up sheets. You will need to arrive at The Bath Forum before 7.15pm to allow time to collect your tickets. I hope to see you at the concert. Yours faithfully Simone Homes General Manager, Bath Philharmonia
