Prayers for the ChurchAnglican Church in North America: Archbishop Laurent Mbanda and the bishops, clergy, religious, and people of the Anglican Province of Rwanda.

The first English missionaries arrived in 1914, but continuous missionary efforts did not begin until 1925. The first two converts were baptized in 1926. The church in Rwanda remained a part of other dioceses until the country gained independence from Belgium in 1962.

The first Rwandan bishop was consecrated in 1965. Growth began to escalate and the province of Rwanda was founded in 1992, with seven dioceses. In less than 100 years, the Anglican Church in Rwanda has grown from zero native Anglicans to over one million (in a population of 8.7 million). The Church now has 11 dioceses.

The 1994 genocide and civil war left the country and the church in ruins. The Church has since established a very active healing ministry that has benefited thousands. The Church is dedicated to reconciliation, restoration, and rehabilitation, as well as to rural development, medical services, vocational training, and education. The seminary there recently graduated its first class. The Church is one of the French-speaking churches in the Anglican Communion. (Sources: Anglican Communion website and Wikipedia.)

Please pray especially for the on-going work in healing and reconciliation.

Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes: Mother Colleen Dewey and the people of St. Mathews, Lapeer, Michigan.

Parish Cycle of Prayer: George and Brenda Spradling; Ted and Daphne Spradling and Madison Martin; Fr. Ed and Mary Steele; the Harvest Festival Planning Team; and our Acolyte ministry.

Encouragement for your prayer time with GodGod says, “For the heart that’s guilty, I’ll give you a heart that’s forgiven. For the heart that’s resentful, I’ll give you a heart that’s full of peace. For the heart that’s anxious, I’ll give you heart that’s confident. For the heart that’s lonely, I’ll give you a heart full of love. The heart that has been bitter and angry? I’ll give you a heart that is forgiving and loving and generous instead. Let me do a heart transplant in you. I will set you free.” (From http://pastorrick.com/devotional/english/full-post/broken-heart-the-lord-is-close1)

“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” (Psalm 13:5)

Members not already enrolled in Kroger Community Rewards can join by searching for either our new account number — HM254 — or St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. Sign-ups are accepted anytime throughout the year, and now automatically renew every year.

Men and Boys Brats Bash August 30The annual Dave Cook Memorial Men and Boys Brats Dinner is this coming Thursday, August 30, at 5:30 p.m.! As in past years, all food, soft drinks, and coffee will be provided. (Feel free to BYOB.) We do ask that you sign up in advance, along with the number of folks in your party, so that we are able to plan appropriately. You may sign up at the church this weekend, or online at standrewspolaris.org.

This is a great opportunity for a relaxed evening of food and fun, and to get together with those men and boys who attend the various services. You may certainly invite your friends and neighbors who don’t attend church at St. Andrew’s, as well. And … if for some reason you forget to sign up … please come anyway, as we always order plenty of extra food.

During the course of the evening, Fr. Shane Tucker will be presenting an overview of the “Wild At Heart” boot camp men’s retreat for anyone who may have missed the special meeting we had a couple of weeks back. He will also be answering any questions about the boot camp and helping with your sign-up.

This event will be rain or shine. If the weather cooperates, we will hold the dinner on the lawn between the church and the Parish House. If the weather is inclement, we will dine in the Gathering Area of the church.

If you need transportation to or from the event, please contact Ed Summers, 614-371-1649, or Carlo Cherubini, 614-327-2317, or any member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. You may also contact Ed or see any Brotherhood member if you have questions or need more information.

St. Andrew’s to serve at Common Ground Sept. 15St. Andrew’s will serve at the Common Ground Free Store in Delaware on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. We are especially in need of volunteers and food for this visit, as many volunteers/food providers have been busy with the start of a new school year. If you are unavailable in the morning, please consider coming from 1 to 3 p.m. to prepare the store for the next shopping day on Tuesday.

To volunteer or to provide food please contact Diane Bobay at 614-846-6921 or [email protected], or Marty Scott at 614-284-0182 or [email protected], or sign up at church. Sign-up sheets are available starting today.

The Common Ground Free Store — whose mission statement is “Welcoming the Community to Share in God’s Love and Gifts” — provides free clothing, household goods, books, toys and more to all in need, regardless of their situation. There are no income requirements or guidelines to meet. The store’s philosophy is that everyone is on “common ground.”

When St. Andrew’s serves at Common Ground, we not only provide food for shoppers to have a nutritious meal, but also staff the kitchen, check-in, hospitality, and check-out areas, and help with sorting clothes and stocking racks and shelves.

The store is located at 193 E. Central Ave., Delaware, and is open Tuesdays, from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursdays, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Help is always needed on these days, as well as our regularly scheduled service day. For more information, log on to www.commongroundfreestore.org or e-mail [email protected].

The Daughters of the Holy Cross (DOHC) will wrap up their school supply drive today. Your donations for teachers and their classrooms in Delaware City Schools — pencils, glue sticks, Expo Dry Erase Markers and Expo Dry Erasers — may be placed in the donation bin in the Gathering Area. If you’d like to contribute but would prefer that the Daughters pick up items for you, please make a check payable to St. Andrew’s and write DOHC on the memo line.

‘Wine, women & whatever’ Sept. 23All women and girls of the church are invited to Robin Field’s home on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. for an afternoon of fellowship and fun. Assorted beverages (wine and non-alcoholic) and snacks will be provided. Come join us for all or part, just come!
