Kick-boxing team flagged offBandipur, Jan 1: The Army and the Bandipur district administration Wednesday gave a warm send off to four members of the Jammu & Kashmir Kick-boxing team for participation in the 6th Sub-Junior & 8th Senior National Kick-Boxing championships being held at Doon Public School, Lawda, Kurukshektra, from January 1 to 5.

As per a handout, the players were flagged off from Sonarwain, Bandipurin presence of Army officers and various civil dignitaries including SSP Bandipur, Mohd-ShabirChoudhary and ADC BandipurNazir Ahmad Baba.

Speaking on the occasion, the coach of the team thanked the Army for their support. “The Army was approached to make this tour possible by giving assistance in terms of kitsfor the team and provision of uniforms.They have gone beyond the requirements to make it possible for the team to participate in the tournament”, he said.

Wushu trials from todaySrinagar, Jan 1: The J&K Wushu Association is going to conduct trials for selection of players for the upcoming 35th National Games at Judo Hall Jammu on January 2 and 3.

“The National Games are scheduled to be held at Kerala and for that J&K Wushu team has qualified on the basis of its brilliant performance in the recently held Senior National Wushu Championship in Rajasthan”, an Associa-tion statement said.

Triathlon trials held at JammuSrinagar, Jan 1: The J&K Triathlon Association held trials for selectionof its team for the upcoming National Games, at Bantalab Jammu, on Thursday.

“In the trials top 13 athletes of the State participated, competing in one-kilometer swimming, 15-Km cycling and 30 KM running events. Tasaduq Hussain finished first, Tanveer Hussain of JK bank second and RiyazWani of R&B finished third”, a handout issued here said adding that the trio has qualified for the National Games that are scheduled to be held in Kerala.

Hafeez awaits bowling action test result from ChennaiKarachi, Jan 1: Banned Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is report-edly set to return to his homeland after appearing for the informal bio-mechan-ic test in Chennai on account of his ille-gal bowling action.

The seasoned all-rounder was sus-pended from bowling with immediate effect after the International Cricket Council ruled his action was illegal.

According to a PCB spokesman, the results of the test would be received after a couple of days, which is important for Pakistan in deciding Hafeez's World Cup fate. He said that it might be a risky decision to pick Hafeez just as a batsman but due to his vast experience his presence in the World Cup squad would strengthen Pakistan's squad, at least on paper, the Dawn reported. Dhoni missing from Indian team’s photos with Oz PMSydney, Jan 1: The touring Indian cricketers and their home team counterparts were hosted byAustralian Prime Minister Tony Abbott for an afternoon tea at his official residence on the New Year's Day on Thursday.

Players from both sides posed for the official photo session with Abbott at Kir-ribilli House, his second official residence.

Dressed in their casual Team India T-Shirts and trousers, the players were photographed with Abbott with the BCCI posting the pictures on its Twitter handle. "The Indian cricket

team was hosted for after-noon tea by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on the first day of the new year, on Thursday," the BCCI said.

There was another photograph of the newly-appointed Indian captain ViratKohli, his Australian counterpart Steven Smith and Abbott. Mahendra Singh Dhoni -- who retired from Tests after the Mel-bourne match -- was not seen in any of the photos posted. It remains unclear whether he attended the event or not.

Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting held at KVK-Kulgam

The SAC meeting of KVK-Kulgam was held on 31st of December,2014 under the chairmanship of Prof. Tej Partap, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir. Action Taken Report on the recommendations of previous SAC meeting and Annual Progress Report 2014-15 were presented by Programme Coordinator, Dr. Tasneem Mubarak. Annual Action Plan for the year 2015-16 was also discussed. The work done by the KVk team was highly appreciated by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Worthy Director Extension,Prof.Afifa S.Kamli and all other members of the Committee. After receiving feedback from the officers of Line Department and progressive farmers, Direct Extension stressed on the popularize technologies which improve the farmers income, better market linkage services, awareness on climate change and value addition of fruits and vegetables. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor desired that all stake holders should work together for mass multiplication of quality planting material especially grafted walnut which has great demand. He also stressed on development of location specific Integrated Farming Models and revival of niche crops like Mushkebudjiand Kamad rice and local Chilli. He also desired that the impact of technologies transferred by the KVK need to be documented. In the end Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor once again appreciated the KVK team and expressed satisfaction over the activities carried out by the Kendra.
