Baba, Scientist SKUAST-K, opened up the symposium for deliberation by flagging up the issues concerning nutrition and health. Dr. F. A. Masoodi, Prof. & Head, Div. of Food Science & Technology, University of Kashmir made a comprehensive presentation on Food Safety Issues in relation with supply system and WTO norms - the most deliberated issue of today’s time. Dr. Javaid Iqbal, faculty member at SKIMS, Soura emphasized upon micronutrient deficiency among masses in J&K. He sensitized important stakeholders about the role of thiamine and graveness of its deficiency especially among infants. Prof. M. H. Wani, Rajiv Gandhi Chair organizer of the symposium stressed upon the conceptualization of collaborative research projects for eradication of grave problem arising out of micro nutrient deficiency. Prof. F. A. Zaki, in his presidential address emphasized upon expanding dimension of academic research beyond production and productivity. He emphasized upon capacity building especially among women to make them aware about lack of nutritional deficiency and its impacts. He showed his interest to collaborate with SKIMS, University of Kashmir and other institutions of the state towards eradication of this problem. One day symposium was organized on May 23, 2016 by Rajiv Gandhi Chair on “Nutrition & Health”. An interdisciplinary group of scientists and experts from SKIMS and University of Kashmir participated in the symposium and deliberated on various issues of the theme. Prof. F. A. Zaki, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture chaired the symposium and delivered presidential address. Dr. S. H. Baba, Scientist SKUAST-K, opened up the symposium for deliberation by flagging up the issues concerning nutrition and health. Dr. F. A. Masoodi, Prof. & Head, Div. of Food Science & Technology, University of Kashmir made a comprehensive presentation on Food Safety Issues in relation with supply system and WTO norms - the most deliberated issue of today’s time. Dr. Javaid Iqbal, faculty member at SKIMS, Soura emphasized upon micronutrient deficiency among masses in J&K. He sensitized important stakeholders about the role of thiamine and graveness of its deficiency especially among infants. Prof. M. H. Wani, Rajiv Gandhi Chair organizer of the symposium stressed upon the conceptualization of collaborative research projects for eradication of grave problem arising out of micro nutrient deficiency. Prof. F. A. Zaki, in his presidential address emphasized upon expanding dimension of academic research beyond production and productivity. He emphasized upon capacity building especially among women to make them aware about lack of nutritional deficiency and its impacts. He showed his interest to collaborate with SKIMS, University of Kashmir and other institutions of the state towards eradication of this problem. The symposium concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Sajad A. Saraf.
