PROJECTS UNDER TAKEN

Post-Graduation Project (M.Tech) ____________________________________________________________________ Project Objective : Experimental studies on “Producer gas quality improvement and combustion chamber shapes

on dual fuelled engines” Description: This project is directed at improvement of required quality of producer gas for IC engine application and selection of suitable combustion chamber shape with dual fuel technology with no major engine modification to reduce exhaust emissions and minimize the usage of fossil fuels. Single cylinder 4-Stoke CI engine is coupled with biomass downdraft gasifier with the hopper capacity of 40

Kg used to derive Producer gas as primary fuel for decentralized captive power generation upto 3 Kw and it has ability to operate on locally available non-edible trans-estrified methyl esters of Rice bran oil (Biodiesel) as secondary fuel.

Producer gas was derived from biomass gasifier using coconut shell as feed stock and it was used along with Biodiesel in dual fuel mode.

The proposed work also involves the study of pressure drop at outlet of newly designed volume based cooling & cleaning system and reduction of tar particles using suitable newly developed dry Non-Woven Textile fabric filters (Sieve size: 0.07-0.2 mm) and concept of Superficial Velocity (S.V) was used to access gas quality after gasification from gasifier to meet the required quality of producer gas for long life operation of IC engines with different combustion chamber shapes.

Outcome of project indicates that, Producer gas efficiency is improved with the use of Toroidal combustion chamber which promotes better turbulence and increase in flame speed, resulting in better mix of fuel combination compared to other combustion chamber shapes.

Graduation Project (B.E) _______________________________________________________________________________

Project Objective: “Preparation & Characterization of Al (AA-5083) Alloy Composites”. (Published Online in Journal of Minerals and Materials Characterization and Engineering (Open Access), Jan 2013, 1, 8-14) Description: Experimental studies on dry wear behavior, Tensile, Brinell hardness test of AA 5083 aluminium wrought Alloy reinforced with different volume fraction (3, 5 and 7 %) of SiC particulates by stir casting technique. Attempt has been made to study the influence of wear parameters like applied load, sliding speed and

distance with varying percentage of reinforcements of MMC’s. Plan of experiment to acquire data in controlled way based on Taguchi technique of orthogonal array. General

regression model was used to predict wear rate of MMC by optimization of wear parameters. It was proved from experiment that, wear resistance and mechanical properties were improved by increase of
