Who We Are

Why We Exist? We exist to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

(Matthew 6:10, 28:18-20) Our mission will never change, while our methods must change.

What We Value? Biblically Instructed: The Holy Scriptures shall be the source of unchanging truth by which all

endeavors are defined and accomplished. (John 8:31-32, 2 Timothy 3:14-17)

Spiritually Guided: All endeavors shall be subject to continuous evaluation and refinement as

led by the Holy Spirit. (John 16:13-15)

Mission Driven: All endeavors shall support the accomplishment of the biblically defined

mission statement. (Matthew 28:18-20)

How Do We Behave? Concert not Competition: Jesus Christ is our leader as we work together to serve Him with a diversity of gifts, skills, and personalities to accomplish God’s mission. We are crew-members on an Ice Breaker rather than passengers on a cruise ship.

Share our Scars: We want to see others as Christ sees them, so we strive create an atmosphere where we can be comfortable sharing our struggles and even our failures. What makes us vulnerable is often what makes us beautiful in the light of Christ. A scar is a wound that through the power of Christ has become a witness.

Meet the needs of Others: When we are made aware of felt needs around us we want to do what we can. The Body of Christ does not exist to have our own needs met but rather to meet the needs of a broken world. The salvation offered in Christ is the primary need we desire to meet. Jesus did not go around giving people what they asked for, or thought they needed. He gave them the living water that would change everything.

Invest in the Next Generation: Inspire, nurture, cultivate, encourage, and equip the next generation, the children and youth of our community. We care deeply about children and youth and want to follow Jesus in his love and care for them. They are not just the Body of Christ for tomorrow but they are an essential part of the Body of Christ today.

What To Expect

At the Springs, you’ll find a loving and supportive congregation. Come dressed casual or in

your finest. Either is great. We worship in many ways through a mix of hymns, traditional

readings, and contemporary worship and videos. We also hope to share the truth of the

Gospel message with you. We like context and try not to make up our own agenda or add our

own philosophies and theologies. We want God to transform our lives, and we are ready to

listen and learn.

We have coffee and snacks available, because we know that making a 9:30 am service means

breakfast might not happen. The nursery is available on our first floor for newborns to 3 years

of age. One of our greeters can help you find your way, or find the stairs to the nursery by the

coffee area with signs to point your way. Children 3 years of age to third grade can join our

children's church during worship as well. Children are also welcome in the service anytime!

If you are visiting for the first time, we will not embarrass you, have you stand up, or ask you to give money. We know that many times people want to check out the church and remain “anonymous” for awhile—and that’s fine with us! If you are interested in more information, you can fill out a Springs card in your pew and drop it in the offering plate. We can email you our weekly devotions and bi-weekly newsletter if you are interested. Either way, we are excited you are here and we hope this will be a time of rest and renewal for you. We look forward to meeting you!

Sunday Life Groups Shalom Room 212 Sister, we have a place for you! We are a group of women of all backgrounds, varying in ages, yet we all have experiences to share and would be happy to welcome you into our family. We have studied series from Shane Stanford, Elizabeth George, Max Lucado and we have used the Cokesbury Adult Bible Series. Once a month we visit the residents of Aldersgate to share cookies, games and ourselves. Individually we choose a day or two a month to deliver Meals on Wheels, work the festivals, volunteer for the wonderful five days of Vacation Bible School, help with our youth, and serve side-by-side with others on our Sunday morning greeting team. God is so good. Shalom, y’all. Study leaders – Carrol Barham, Cathy Ellis, Robin Thompson, Maria Yates, & Elena Saxon

Philos Room 229 (The Parlor) The Philos class is a young adult to middle adult age class. We are a group of people just trying to figure out how to exist in this thing called life, and we want Christ at the front of it. We usually discuss the sermon and points that really stuck with us. We love meeting to discuss and drink coffee after worship, but we also get together outside of the Sunday School time. We invite you to come have some coffee with us, dig deeper into God's word, and connect through day to day living!

Families of Faith Room 238 Our class consists of a mix of marrieds and singles with school age to college age children, exploring different biblical subjects including books of the bible, biblical leaders and the life application of biblical concepts. These are taught through different mediums including video, Internet streaming and member-led lessons and discussion. We participate in other church activities such as VBS, Festivals, and 2nd Mile Missions. Teacher: Steven Brown

St. Andrews Class Room 206 We are a class of “older” ladies and gentlemen; however, any age is welcome. We have three teachers who lead us through the Cokesbury Bible Study Series and we strive to take the biblical lessons and apply them to our lives today. We support church activities, missions, and local community needs through individual efforts and/or class participation, such as Vacation Bible School and our Festivals. We also make monetarily contributions to 2nd Mile Missions, Wesley House, L.O.V.E.’s Kitchen, South Harbor Shelter, and Vacation Bible School. On a national level we contribute through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief). Come join us and share in God’s word. Teachers: Bobby Sims, Emma Atkinson, and Shirley Dooley

Genesis Room 213 Come and join us, male or female, young or old, single or married. There are no limits. That is true of our gender and age and generally can refer to our class discussion as well. We continue to seek God’s will for our class, our church and for each of us individually. Currently we discuss questions the Pastor provides each week that take us deeper into the sermon we just heard. The discussion can get lively at times. We want every opinion to be heard. We like to eat. Yes, it’s as simple as that. Someone is always up for lunch after worship or a Friday/Saturday night trip to any dining establishment near or far. We also like to meet up at football games and basketball games. We are ardent supporters, personally and monetarily, of the witness experiences Poplar Springs Drive UMC offers- greeting team, scripture readers, ushers, and the Festivals, Vacation Bible School, Love’s Kitchen and Habitat for Humanity. We pledge as a class to make a difference through 2nd Mile Missions giving. We seek out opportunities to impact a local family with the love of Christ during the holidays. We look forward to seeing you. Study Leaders: Irby Lang, Angie Sherrill, Grady Coleman and Dianne Shannon.

Men of Faith (Men of all ages) Room 202 We focus on understanding scripture and applying it to daily life. Discussion is usually related to the morning sermon. Men of all ages are invited.

GIGGLES Room 314 (Prayer Room) Our class name stands for Girls In God, Growing, Loving, Empowering, and Sharing. We use the term "girls" loosely! Some of us are admittedly over the hill, and some of us aren't even close to it, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously and enjoy getting to know each other on a more personal level...sharing our lives, our thoughts, Bible study, and laughs along the way. Our class reads through different devotionals/studies that interest us as a class and discuss them. We try to apply what we are learning to our daily lives to bring us closer to God. We welcome all to come try our class, sit back, relax, and we will grow alongside you. Teacher: Ann Carol Purvis

Youth Third Floor (Youth Hall) This is open to students from grades 6 - 12. Each Sunday morning after the service, we spend time reflecting on Pastor Chuck's sermon through questions provided by the pastor or tweaks on the questions made by our parent-volunteer teacher, Mrs. Debbie Young. During each lesson we share stories, jokes, and Jesus often all in the same discussion in our search for truth. Mrs. Debbie teaches the class while Mrs. Janet Barham and Mr. Joey Coxwell assist in guiding the discussions. The class is full of fun, friendship, and truth around scripture. So grab some coffee and a tasty snack, then head our way! We would love for you to come belong with us!

Children Third Floor (Children’s Hall) Ages 3 years (must be potty trained) to 5th grade We have GREAT leadership! Each lesson includes teaching the Bible story, creating an associated craft, and other fun activities. Each Sunday morning the children have the opportunity to engage with one another in the Family Center with a time for sharing the highlights of their week and meeting visitors. This is also a time to share prayer concerns followed by a teacher or child leading the group in prayer before heading to individual class rooms. Moms and Dads, leave your child with us while you go to a class of your own. Your children will be in good hands, with hearts for serving the Lord.

Wednesday Evening Groups

Wednesday’s evenings start at 5:15 with dinner (make a reservation on Sunday morning in the black attendance pad) and then follow with a class at 6pm for adults, children, and youth. See more about upcoming or ongoing classes online or in our newsletter.

Tuesday evenings, join a group of new mom’s (who can’t get out of the house so easily) for a time of reading and discussion. We connect through google hangouts, which is a online video chat. We read through a book together and then at 8:30 pm meet at our computers to discuss. Through the year we will have different topics and also different hangout groups. Interested in joining or starting one? Contact Shelby Dickey [email protected]

The Life Transformation Groups are an effective and simple model for learning to hear God’s voice and receive encouragement in responding to that voice. In a safe relationship, individuals discover how to become vulnerable and accountable with one to two other people. There are men’s and women’s life groups that meet at various times during the week. If you are interested in one of these groups you can contact Chuck or Katie Meador. Chuck Meador (601-953-7696) [email protected] Katie Meador (601-953-7695) [email protected]

MOW is a local outreach program the church has been involved with, through Multi-County Community Agency, for more than 25 years, where we deliver meals to more than 25 people every day of the week. For many, it may be the only outside contact they have that day. We deliver in pairs, usually selecting a particular day of the week each month for delivering, starting around 9 am and generally taking about an hour and a half. There are openings available for you to join this outreach team. Contact Jerry Long, [email protected]

Reading Helps is one of the ways we provide support to parents and educators in the Meridian area to encourage and assist with reading. We have a group of volunteers that read out loud to children from the church and the community on Sunday evenings, one on one, at 4 pm for one hour. No training necessary and we will cover the necessary background check cost. Email Katie Meador for more info. [email protected]

When the donated kits are checked for packaging, an Upper Room or other devotional item is added. Your donation can be left on the altar rail on Sunday mornings or dropped off at the church office.
