Spring ‘17 has some new takes on our color assortment for the season. There are a few distinct palettes that we cannot ignore. We are going to see warm neutrals that have amber and olive accents. A soft, feminine pastel story that is as strong as it is subtle hits the sweet spot this spring. And of course, spring ’17 wouldn’t be complete without bright accents that bring a pop when mixed with

black and white for a true graphic effect.

There is a distinctly neutral palette that is becoming very prominent. With orange tinged yellows, deep olives, and greenish greys leading the way. These tones are all grounded back to black. The neutrals for spring ‘17 have a

modern edge. These colors have an earthy quality that has been dusted over and somehow feel fresh and new again.

A soft, feminine story has a delicately beautiful significance for spring ‘17. Whispers of color and lightly saturated hues are gently making an impact. However these hushed hues of pink, lilac, and blue will not be

silenced. They will be felt and treasured for their allure. They will be rooted by bright white.

Primary colors pop up as the bright spots on the runways. Orange being the runaway of the shows. Vivid, bright hues are emphasized against black & white creating some very graphic looks. These reds, blues, and

yellows have less overall usage but their punchy tones have a great impact as accent colors for spring ‘17.

There are some very distinctive print & pattern trends emerging for spring ‘17.

They range from soft & feminine, to the wild jungle through graphic bold stripes. In addition to the prints, there are some treatments that are leading

the way to play with patterns. We are seeing the piecing of denim, homespun heavy embroidery and the application of patches for a young, edgy feel.

Small, allover ditsy floral patterns were spotted on the runway. They worked as stand-alone prints, mixed with solids in a pieced together look, or to create a bohemian, and artisanal

look they were mixed together. No matter how we play with the ditsy floral, we will achieve a fun & fresh look.

Larger, spaced florals also are blooming for spring ‘17. Look for these florals pairing with more romantic touches and details. Larger spaced florals

have a more distinctive image and make a statement in a great coat or kimono style.

Spotted! An uptrend in animal prints, especially patterns reminiscent of big cats have roared on the runways. Kept

mostly in a neutral palette, we are seeing a resurgence of these prints particularly in statement coats. A

PATCHWORK:

We are seeing patchwork happening

in denim & suede.

EMBROIDERY: This technique is

replacing jacquards & tapestries taking on

both graphic & homespun motifs.

PATCHES: The application of

patches to bombers and denim jackets are

really making an

impact.

Of course we will always have our core fabrics season after season like our

twills, tencels, canvases and flat weaves- but spring ‘17 will be a season full of different fabrics emerging to the top. They have been around before, but this season they look new and exciting again. They are being styled in ways that seem unexpected- like a dressed up denim or a casual satin. It’s time to get

reacquainted with these emerging fabrics for spring ‘17.

Probably the most used fabric in all of the spring shows combined is denim. It was worn head to toe, with a

variety of washes and treatments. Denim is not just for your 5 pocket skinnies anymore- it is for all categories, all occasions and all

looks.

Whether a fan of real or

vegan leather, everyone can agree that the leather-look is here for spring. After a brief hiatus, it is back with a powerful impact and a

range of applications.

Is it any wonder that with a season of such romantic feminine details that we would

find so much of the silky sheen of satin? Interesting the fabric is being used in different ways from the soft seductive draping to

the more rugged and edgy bomber styles.

let Feminine details came to

life through the many lace and eyelets that walked down the runway. Spring ‘17 will have a fine,

delicate feel but it will still feel modern and edgy. Laces were primarily shown in solid blacks and whites, but the occasional pop of color did sneak in.

The core fabrics are like the best friend you have had since childhood- they may change a little but

they will always be the one you can depend on. Twills are in a similar situation, though they continue to get softer, they will always be a staple for the perfect

anorak or trench.
