KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3

Welcome back everyone! I hear that the holidays were full of sunshine and some rather

warm days were had. I can’t say I quite endured those weather conditions in Canada. My trip was fantastic and I can highly recommend a visit to the Rockies and a gorgeous little town call Banff! An absolute breath taking part of the world. The second part of the trip was my Study Tour with the Victorian Principals Association (VPA), consisting of 9 Principals, Assistant Principals and the President of the VPA who hosted the Tour. We visited and met staff from Ministries of Education, District Boards, Teachers Associations, Principals Councils, Principals, Teachers, Students and of course visited schools. We went across the Provinces and Districts including: Toronto (Ontario), Niagara (Ontario), Calgary (Alberta), Delta (Vancouver). There were lots of boxes ticked that reaffirmed that we are on the right track and the reforms that Victoria has undergone as part of the Education State will put us in good stead for the future. There were also some inspiring ideas and strategies to try. Some very exciting times for K.C.P.S. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the KCPS Team who ensured it was business as usual during my absence. Last week our Grade 5 / 6 students, Mr Zito and Mrs Irwin went to Camp Wyuna at Queenscliff. Keeping with tradition we went with students and staff from Kialla West P.S. From all reports it was a great camp despite the weather not being overly favourable for beach activities. It was so pleasing to hear so many stories of our students challenging themselves and conquering their fears during the camp. I would like to thank Mr Zito and Mrs Irwin who give up their family time, were on call 24 hours a day while on camp and do not receive any extra pay or days in lieu. Congratulations to our students on their outstanding behaviour. A big thank you to Mr Van Riet and the K.W.P.S. Crew for organising this year’s camp.

On the last day of term 3 we hosted our Footy Colours and Hot Dog Lunch Day. As

usual this day was a great success with students and staff wearing their footy team colours. Students participated in a round robin of activities showcasing their footy skills and talents. I then announced the results of our 2019 K.C.P.S. Footy Tipping Competition. (A full wrap of results is

in this newsletter.) The results at a glance: 1st ~ Pie Time ~ 134 tips

2nd ~ Fairy Princess ~ 132 tips 3rd ~ Narkle ~ 130 tips

The winner of our wooden spoon was awarded to Richmond Tigers with 92 tips. Thank you to the admin team of Mrs O, Mrs Irwin and Bomber 10! To all of our tippers a very big thank you as we raised $776.00 for our school while having a lot of fun and banter along the way. We finished up with a Hot Dog lunch with the help of: Tracy Blake, Annette Hunt, Stacey Rae, Amy Keat and Lisa Irwin.

This year our School Council have been reviewing our OSHC service finances as we are required to make it a financially

sustainable service. During our September School Council meeting, there was a lengthy discussion about our Outside School Hours Care fees. After comparing our fees to other OSHC Services our School Council have endorsed an increase of $3 to our fees; making our fees $15 per session, per student. This increase will take effect in Term 4. School Council will review our fees on an annual basis to ensure our program remains sustainable. This change will not affect your Child Care Subsidy (CCS), and the percentage of CCS you currently receive will be applied to our new fee amount. Thank you for supporting our OSHC service and we look forward to continuing to provide an affordable and high quality service to our families. On Wednesday 16th October, our 5/6 students, Mr Zito and Mrs Blake are attending the A.S.P.I.R.E. Leadership Program at the Shepparton Sports Stadium. This program aims to connect regional students with Olympians and promote healthy lifestyles through sport. Our students also went last year and found the program very beneficial.

Our Grade 3/4 students are heading off to Alexandra Adventure Camp on Wednesday

23rd to Friday 25th October with Miss Posteraro, Miss H and Mrs O. This camp is also with students and staff from Kialla West. Final payment for this camp is due this coming Friday 18th October. Our Camp program is an important part of our school curriculum. I strongly encourage all students to attend our camps to experience the benefits such opportunities provides students.

On Monday 14th October, we had a few of our students participate in the Goulburn District Athletics carnival at the

Shepparton Athletics Track. Details are as follows: Nehemiah ~ 12/13 y.o. Boys ~ Shot Putt

Tayah ~ 11 y.o. Girls ~ High Jump & 800m Emila ~ 11 y.o. Girls ~ Shot Putt

Relay Teams 12/13 y.o. Boys Team

Angus, Axel, Nehemiah and Hamish 10 y.o. Girls Team

Amali, Charlee K, Eliza and Isabelle Congratulations on all of these students who represented our school with a positive sportsperson attitude. A special mention to: Neo who finished 3rd in his shot putt event; Emila who came 2nd in her shot putt event which means she has qualified for Regional Championships in Albury this Friday. Hats are compulsory in Term 4 for all students and staff as part of our SunSmart policy. Lisa Irwin has done tireless research on finding a suitable K.C.P.S. broad brimmed hat, that meets our needs as well as takes into consideration the feedback from students and parents. These are in stock now available from school at a cost of $9.50 each. As our hot lunches have now finished for 2019, we move into our icy pole selling for Junior School Council. Each lunch time students have the opportunity to buy a Quelch icy pole at the cost of 50 cents each. Junior School Councillors are responsible for selling them each lunch time with money raised going to JSC. Please note: if students have time out or have to do work at recess or lunchtime they then forgo their right to an icy pole

that day.

Exciting news! Teeth on Wheels will be

returning to our school for the children’s 6

monthly dental visits.

To make filling out the consent form easier you can

now complete your Child’s consent form online by

following the link below. It only takes 5 minutes to

complete and by reducing the amount of paper

being used, we will be helping the team out by being

more environmentally friendly.

https://teethonwheels.com.au/consent-eform

The date of the children’s dental visit will be

starting on Monday the 28th of October 2019,

so please ensure if you didn’t complete a form at

the start of the year to have this completed ASAP!

If you have any questions regarding the consent

form or your child’s dental appointment please

don’t hesitate to contact the Teeth on Wheels team

on (03) 9338 1191.

As you are aware, before and after school is quite busy at Kialla Central Primary School now. I cannot reinforce the need for

parents/carers to: 1. use the zebra crossing or walk around on the

path in front of the staff cars; 2. only use the gate (our main entry) near the zebra

crossing ~ some families are sneaking in/out the back gate near the Library;

3. Leave enough room for our bus to safely enter and leave our ground ~ some people are parking too close;

4. be extra careful when doing a U turn or pulling out during these peak times; and

5. Get off your mobile phones while pulling in, pulling out and driving.

I cannot stress the importance of your co-operation to ensure everyone’s safety. Finally, on behalf of the K.C.P.S. School Community, I would like to extend our condolences to the Opie family with the recent passing of Betty. Thinking of you all Mrs O! Debbie Humphries Proud Principal of KCPS
