What is Sports?
• An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.
• A human activity capable of achieving a result requiring physical exertion and/or physical skill, which, by its nature and organization, is competitive and is generally accepted as being a sport.
The Benefits of Participating in Sports
• Playing sports helps you stay in shape, teaches you how to organize your time, boosts friendships, and builds relationships with your peers and adults. Through athletics, you gain skills that can best be acquired on a court, track, or field.

Mental wellbeing includes factors such as individuals’ ability to develop their potential, work productively and creatively, build strong and positive relationships with others and contribute to their community’.
It also involves areas of life such as feelings of satisfaction, optimism, self-esteem, having some control over one’s life, having a purpose in life and a sense of belonging and support.

An all-encompassing definition of physical activity is ‘any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy
expenditure’
There are a huge number of different types of physical activity.
Walking is a type of physical activity which many people find practical and accessible; it can be done at low, moderate or vigorous intensity. Other examples are•dance, •Gardening, •badminton, •martial arts•and rock climbing to name just a few.
What impact does physical activity have on wellbeing?
Physical activity has a huge potential to enhance wellbeing in our population. It is known that even a short burst of 10 minutes brisk walking increases mental alertness, energy and positive mood states.
Participation in regular physical activity can increase self-esteem and reduce stress and anxiety. Physical activity can help play a role in preventing mental health problems and improve the quality of life of those experiencingit.
For example, there is an approximately 20–30% lower risk for depression and dementia, for adults participating in daily physical activity
