"Spiderman, Spiderman,

Does Whatever a Spider Can"

"Look Out,

Here Comes the Spiderman"

The idea for this contest originated about a month ago and it was announced by email and posted on the website. Many people with cruisers and some with trucks were quick to send information with photos for this contest. One email was sent to Russ Adolf and he forward the email to all of his club members. Below is an email sent to Mr. Adolf thanking him for passing on the information to Jerry and Rita Gillespie who were highly considered from the very start. The story and photos they sent were awesome and the decision was made about 4 days after the deadline thus they were selected for the Cover Page Newsletter of August – September 2008 Issue # 24. We have been doing this club newsletter for a long time and during this time we have picked up a great amount of readers who look forward to the newsletters. I would say there are appx. 250 plus email address, and countless readers from the web site, plus, we also print out between 40 to 60 hard copies and that is set just like a magazine 17 x 11 1/2 in black & white only. A collector’s item in the future.

Hello Russ Adolf,

I was informed that you forward the email about this contest to your members and I would like to extend my appreciation to you

by saying thank you for doing that. The competition was grand and the photos were awesome.

I am happy to say that your members Jerry and Rita Gillespie from your club YakiVegas PT Cruiser Club are the winners for

this contest Alexander Mendoza

October November Issue # 25. All details are posted on clubs’ website. www.rcptcruiserclub.com

This is the theme of our 2005 Inferno Red PT Cruiser. We challenged ourselves to do something different with our new

2005 PT. Our 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren helped us choose the "Spiderman" theme. Our local 70 year old

graphic artist, Bob Hill, airbrushed Spidey on the hood, and pinstriped spider webs and baby spiders on the PT, for our

15th wedding anniversary, July 15, 2005. June of 2006, we had Bob airbrush Spidey heads on both mirror covers.

And, last June 2007, after "Spiderman 3" movie came out, Bob airbrushed the theme of the newest movie on our trunk door.

We think it's one of a kind. . He brings a smile to children and adults alike, shouting, “Spiderman, Spiderman

Place Winner

Eddie Johnson

Jim Dekoker presents 1st place trophy award to Eddie Johnson of Desert Hot Springs, Calif. Eddie was selected by Mr. P. of Burger Town USA as the most patriotic cruiser at this event. Eddie is no stranger to being patriotic whereas he served in the Viet-Nam War and was seriously wounded while there. During the time of his service to the United States Army he was awarded the Purple Heart along with about 7 other service medals. He served his country and remains active with the community by speaking to high schools during the year. Mr. Johnson recently spoke at La Quinta High School where he received around 150 letters from the students thanking him for talking to them and sharing some of his past experience from that era. War time Veteran Eddie Johnson also contributes to the Desert Cancer Foundation in Palm Desert by being a dedicated volunteer and assisting in different areas to keep this foundation going strong. Eddie belongs to several clubs and keeps himself busy attending various Meet & Greets even though it means he has to drive very far to get to some of these events. A member of The Palm Springs Cruisin’ Association and a member of the Double D Cruiser Car Club he keeps himself busy and always lends a hand when needed. Congratulation Eddie Johnson for your win on the 2nd Annual Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Club Best Patriotic 4th of July Celebration 1st Place Award Trophy.

Cancer Prevention

A number of risk factors contribute to the formation of cancer. Although there are many risk factors for cancer you cannot control, there are changes you can make to your lifestyle to decrease your risk of cancer. Factors such as genetics cannot be controlled; others, like cigarette smoking, can be. Both your lifestyle and environment may affect your chances of developing certain types of cancer. All cancers are different, so they have different causes. A factor that may contribute to lung cancer may not contribute to cervical cancer. Knowing the risk factors for different cancer types can give you the power to prevent certain cancers from ever forming. It can be difficult to determine the cause of cancer. Multiple risk factors work together to contribute to its development. The following are some actions that can help prevent different types of cancer:

Quit smoking to reduce the chances of getting lung cancer

Reduce alcohol intake to avoid esophageal cancer

Eat well-balanced and nutritious meals to inhibit the formation of colon cancer

Exercise and stay active to reduce the likelihood of developing colon or breast cancer

Get vaccinated

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and use sunscreen to prevent melanomas and skin cancer

Be aware of your environment. Avoid hazardous jobs that expose you to radiation or other carcinogenic substances

While there may be no sure way of preventing a person from getting cancer, following these guidelines—as well as a healthy lifestyle—is a great way to help reduce your risk.

Fourth of July Celebration

Place Winners

Mike & Maria Savedra

Jim Dekoker presents 2nd place Fourth of July Celebration trophy to Maria Savedra from San Gabriel Valley PT Cruiser

Club. Congratulations on your win Maria, you and Mike surely have a great looking PT Cruiser.

Mike & Maria have definetly done some serious modifications to their cruiser since they bought it and it shows. THIS IS ONE CRUISER THAT IS RATED HIGHLY AMONG CAR BUFFS Before we bought the Cruiser, we were thinking about buying a car to restore but, after careful consideration we scrapped the idea because the cost was more than what we wanted to spend. At the same time we got a postcard advertising a new concept car as we now know as the “PT Cruiser”. From the beginning, Maria thought that this was the car that she wanted. It had a retro look and today's technology. We put the postcard on the refrigerator and stared at it for a couple of years. At the same time we were going from dealer to dealer and they were not dealing and with an over sticker price of over five to ten thousand dollars. Finally we found a dealer that was willing to deal. After three visits, we finally got the deal we wanted and the car we wanted. Maria's request was that it had to be red and a five speed, anything else was just like icing on a cake. We got a Limited Edition, Inferno Red, five speed, leather, sunroof, sport suspension, etc, etc. For about three months we just ran stock

and joined a PT Cruiser Club where we could see the various cruisers modified in various themes. Little by little we started modifying the car as to what it is now. We lower it, added dual pipes, pin stripping, Continental kit, visor, spotlights, red rims, white wall tires etc, as you well know is a work in progress, aka "under construction". Along the way we have met incredible people and at the same time have made wonderful friendships.

CONGRATULATIONS MIKE AND MARIA SAVEDRA ON YOUR WIN FOR THE 2ND ANNUAL RANCHO

CUCAMONGA PT CRUISER CLUB / TRUCK AND CAR EVENT BEST PATRIOTIC 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION

2ND PLACE AWARD TROPHY.

Fourth of July Celebration

3st

Place Winner

Evelyn Bosinger

Sponser for the Fourth of July Trophies is Jim Dekoker of Dekoker Electrical from Riverside, CA. Jim was not the judge for the best patriotic winners but he did present the trophies to the winners at this event here at Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Club / Truck & Car Event. Evelyn was presented with a very beautiful and very partriotic trophy which stood 3 foot tall. She was busy all morning making sure that her all american PT Cruiser looked its best. Evelyn’s home club is Phun Time Cruisers from up north and she traveled all the way to the event to compete in this event. Not only did she compete but she had a whole lot of fun making friends and checking out the other cars. All vehicles were eligible for this contest, PT Cruisers, Classics, Trucks, and T-Buckets, all Cars was the rule. I guess Evelyn must have used the front seat belt for that 3 foot trophy on the way home. It was a beautiful trophy indeed! Congratulation Evelyn. Very nice convertible PT Cruiser and well decorated for the Fourth of July Celebration at this event.

The History of the American Flag

Congress first approved the flag on June 14, 1777. This date is now observed as Flag Day throughout America. It was first stated that there be a star and stripe for each state, making thirteen of both. Over the years, the number of stars has been changed to include one star for each of the 50 states, while the stripes remained the same to represent the 13 original colonies. Later, the colors of the flag were given special meaning. The red is for valor and zeal - white is for hope, purity, and cleanliness of life - and blue, the color of heaven, loyalty, sincerity, justice, and truth. The name "OLD GLORY" was given to our National Flag on August 10, 1831. The flag means the spirit of liberty and human freedom. Proper Display of Flag * Display of the American flag is usually from sunrise to sunset. * The flag should be displayed daily on or near the main building of every public place and during school days in or near every schoolhouse. * Flags are flown at half-staff to show grief for lives lost. When the flag is flown at half-staff, it should be pulled to the top for a moment, and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should then be raised to the top before it is lowered for the day. * When two or more flags are flown from the same pole, the American flag must be on top. * When displayed with another flag against a wall, the U.S. flag should be on its own right (left to a person facing the wall).

Support your feet you can minimize the

pain of plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis is a condition that occurs when

the connective tissue on the bottom of the foot

(called plantar fascia) becomes inflamed. The

fascia lends support to the arch and structures of

the foot. It extends from the heel to the toes, so

you can imagine how problematic it is when it

becomes irritated. The pain from plantar fasciitis

occurs on the bottom of the foot near the heel

and is described as sharp or burning. It's worse

first thing in the morning and generally gets

better the longer someone remains on his feet.

The pain can recur, usually after the person has

been off his feet for a protracted period. It can

occur in one or both feet, but when it strikes, it's

memorable.

What causes the fascia to become irritated? Lots

of things can set you up for problems. For

starters, the fascia supports the arch, so

anything that places added burden on it can

cause tiny tears in the tissue. These tiny tears

lead to an inflammatory reaction and, eventually,

the symptoms of plantar fasciitis. Obesity or

rapid weight gain, high-impact exercises like

jogging and basketball, diabetes (for reasons that

aren't clear), shoes that have no arch support or

thin, hard soles that don't support the feet, or

underlying foot problems (like high or low

arches) all can overburden the plantar fascia.

Another major contributor to the problem is

having tight Achilles tendons. This decreases the

normal range of motion for the feet so that when

these tendons are stretched past this limited

range, an undue stress is placed on the fascia.

This phenomenon explains why the pain is worse

in the morning: The foot remains in a contracted

position overnight, and when it's "stretched" first thing the next morning, the pain strikes.

The good news about plantar fasciitis is that it

generally goes away. The bad news is that it can

take a long time. The symptoms last anywhere

from a few months up to a couple of years, so it's

important that those who have it employ a few

tricks to minimize its effect on their lives.

Treatment includes consistently stretching the

plantar fascia and the Achilles tendons (see box

at left). Additional home remedies to try include

icing feet at the end of the day, taking over-the-

counter anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen and

wearing the right footwear (shoes with good arch

support; no hard heels or soles).

For those who continue to have problems in spite

of these maneuvers, talk with your doctor. After

taking a quick history and doing an exam to rule

out other problems, chances are, she'll refer you

to a physical therapist, who can show you more

targeted stretching and strengthening exercises

based on the shape of your foot. There are even

special splints and boots that can be used to help

stretch out the tissues in the lower leg and foot.

You can help prevent plantar fasciitis by

understanding what predisposes you to the

problem and taking corrective action now. Once it

occurs, you're already behind, so take care of

your feet now. After all, your plantar fascia work

hard every day to support your feet, so why not

give them the proper support they need to stay

healthy?

To prevent stroke damage, think FAST

A stroke is a "brain attack" that happens when

blood flow is interrupted. "It's the third leading

cause of death, but 40% of Americans can't

name a single warning sign and most people

don't know that it's treatable, if you catch it

early."

Memory trick is FAST It's a myth that strokes only hit the elderly: 25%

are in people younger than 65. If you think you

or someone you're with might be having a stroke,

use this checklist, fast.

Face. Is it numb? Does the smile suddenly sag or

droop on one side? Arm. Is one arm weak? Can both be raised

easily? Speech. Is a simple sentence like, "The sky is

blue," slurred or jumbled? Time. Call 911, even if there's an improvement

in condition.
