What is Social Media?

‘Social Media’ is the term used to describe the 2nd generation of websites (or Web 2.0) which enable greater interaction with users.

Traditional websites required passive consumption of information by the reader in a top-down approach.

The ‘Social Web’ encourages the reader to contribute their own content and ideas.

• An online ‘micro-blogging’ tool that enables users to post 140-character messages about themselves and their business/activity.

• Real-time updates on what’s going on in the world, right now, as it happens!

• ‘Tweets’ can be posted online via the website, a smartphone app or SMS text.
