If your computer does not, running the SNAP Check Configuration utilityshould install it.     Check Configuration Utility1. Go to the SNAP portal website http://snap2013.emcp.com/.2. Click the Check Configuration button on the SNAP login page to install the SNAP Player

    (required for Skill Exams, Grade-Its and Performance Evaluations).

    The configuration wizard will:

    l Check for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 and install if not found.l Install the SnapPlayer.

    3. Click the Run button when the File Download box appears.

    6. Click the Next button when the Install Wizard is displayed.

    7. Click the Next button on the next screen.

    Note: You will now be prompted for Administrative privileges to install the SNAP Player. If you do

  • not have Administrative privileges, please contact your computer or lab administrator.

    8. When the Install Wizard is finished, click the Finish button to exit the configuration wizard.

    Enroll in SNAPTo register your Student Account in SNAP:

    1. Go to the SNAP 2013 portal: http://snap2013.emcp.com/2. Click the Student Registration button.

    3. On the next screen, click on the Register for SNAP icon.

    4. On the next screen,l Enter a username and a password.l Enter your email address

    Note: Your college may require you to use your college email address.

    l Your name and contact information.

  • l Your time zone.l The enrollment key, which is provided by your instructor.l The activation key, which is provided with your textbook purchase.

    5. Click the Create my new account button.

    6. On the next screen, check that the course information is correct.7. Click the Confirm Account button.

    8. A confirmation message is displayed.9. Click the Continue button.

    10. You will be redirected to the log in page.11. An email will be sent to the email address specified during the set up process with your new log in

    information.

    Setting up a Trial Account

    Creating a trial account allows you to sign up for your course without a SNAP 2013 activation code.

    To set up a trial Student Account in SNAP:

  • 1. Go to the SNAP 2013 portal: http://snap2013.emcp.com/2. Click the Student Registration button.

    3. On the next screen, click on the Register for SNAP icon.

    4. On the next screen,l Enter a username and a password.l Enter your email address

    Note: Your college may require you to use your college email address.

    l Your name and contact information.l Your time zone.l The enrollment key, which is provided by your instructor.l Select the Trial Activation checkbox:

  • 5. Click the Create my new account button.

    6. On the next screen, check that the course information is correct.7. Click the Confirm Account button.

    8. A confirmation message is displayed.9. Click the Continue button.

    10. You will be redirected to the log in page.11. An email will be sent to the email address specified during the set up process with your new log in

    information.12. Each time you login, you will see a page that displays the status of your trial account:

    From the 1st to the 17th day of the trial period, you can:

  • l Click Continue Trial to open the assignments page.l Enter an activation code and click Submit.l If the activation code you enter is valid, the trial will be converted to a full SNAP 2013 account.l From the 18th day of the trial, you will no longer have access to the course materials; however, youwill still have the option of entering an activation code to resume access.

    Login to SNAPTo login to SNAP:

    1. Go to the SNAP portal website: http://snap2013.emcp.com/2. Enter your login name.3. Enter your password.4. Click the Go button.

    SNAP Help InformationSNAP provides you with a variety of sources to get help and information.

    l Click Help in the upper right corner of the page to display the SNAP Help screen.

    l Click the question mark icon to display Help information about a particular section or functionon the page.

  • l Click the Student User’s Guide link at the bottom of the page to display a comprehensive Stu-dent User's Guide.

    l Click the FAQ link at the bottom of the page to display a list of Frequently Asked Questions withanswers.

    Snap AccountOn the Account section of the SNAP portal; students can view and edit profile information, change theaccount password, and view and edit recent forum posts and blog entries. An intuitive interface enablesquick and easy editing of contact information and a way to change the assigned password.

    View ProfileTo view the current Profile settings, click the Account link in the upper right corner of the page, next toHelp and Logout.

    The Profile screen is displayed.

  • The information displayed includes:

    l Contact information and email address.l Course enrollment.l Textbook(s) that is used for each course.l Most recent access date and time to the SNAP webpage.l Course membership.

    Edit ProfileTo edit profile information:

    1. Click the Account link in the upper right corner of the page.

    2. Click the Edit Profile tab.

    3. Edit the profile information.

  • Note: For security reasons, First name, Last name and Email address are not editable fields. Toupdate these fields, or to correct a typo, please email Technical Support at [email protected].

    4. Click the Update profile button.

    Change Your Password

    To change your SNAP account password:

    1. Click the Account link in the upper right corner of the page.

    2. Click the Change password button.

    3. On the next screen, enter the current password.4. Enter the new password.

    Blog Entries

    View Blog EntriesTo view Blog entries,

    1. Click the Account link in the upper right corner of the page.

    2. Click the Blog tab.

    3. A page with existing Blog entries is displayed.

  • Add Blog EntryTo add a Blog entry,

    1. Click the Account link in the upper right corner of the page.

    2. Click the Blog tab.

    3. Click the Add an entry link.

    4. Enter a Blog title.5. Enter Blog text.

  • l Optional: To add an attachment to the blog entry, click the Browse… button, locate the file to beuploaded, and click the Open button.

    l Optional: Add official tags and user defined tags. A tag is a relevant keyword or term associatedwith a Blog entry that describes the entry and enables keyword-based classification of the inform-ation for the purpose of search retrieval.

    l User defined tags are personal tags that any user may add to describe content.l Official Tags are tags that are added by an administrator and available for any site user.

    6. Click the Save Changes button.

    Edit a Blog EntryTo edit a Blog entry,

  • 1. Click the Account link in the upper right corner of the page.

    2. Click the Blog tab.

    3. Click the Edit link associated an entry.l The Edit and Delete links can be found in the lower right corner of a Blog entry.

    4. Edit the Blog entry.5. Click the Save Changes button.

    Delete a Blog EntryTo delete a Blog entry,

    1. Click the Account link in the upper right corner of the page.

    2. Click the Blog tab.

  • 3. Click the Delete link associated an entry.l The Edit and Delete links can be found in the lower right corner of a Blog entry.

    4. Click the Yes button to confirm the deletion.

    SNAP NavigationOnce you are logged in, you'll be brought to your SNAP home page, which should look like the belowimage:

    The page can be broken down into 5 sections.

    A. At the very top of the SNAP portal are three links: Help, Logout, and Account.

  • l Help: The Help page contains help manuals and videos for the SNAP website.l Logout: Clicking the Logout link will log a user out of the SNAP website.l Account: The Account section includes features that enable students to view and edit con-tact information, view recent forum posts and blog entries.

    Note: Some profile information cannot be edited by students. To edit this information pleasecontact [email protected].

    B. Below your name, there are two tabs at the top right corner of each page, Home and Grades.

    C. The left pane, which is referred to as the Course Navigation Pane, displays courses you areenrolled in.

    D. The center of the page is where course content is displayed. This content is dependent on whichtab you are viewing (see bullet point B).

    E. At the bottom of the page, you see links to the Student User's Guideand a link to FAQs & UserGuide PDFs.

    Home TabThe Home page displays scheduled assignments and added resources for a course.

    Activities appear on the Assignments page in three different font colors based on attempts remaining.

    l Titles in blue have not been attempted.l Titles in green have been attempted and have at least one attempt available.l Titles in black have been attempted and have no remaining attempts.

    Note: If you are taking more than one course, the course navigation pane will contain a course header foreach course. Clicking a course header will display content specific to that course. In the image below, thecourse "Office Applications" has been selected, and links related to that course are being displayed.

    When located on the Home tab for a course, the course navigation pane on the left side of the page dis-plays the following links:

  • l All Tutorials: Displays all of the available tutorials that are avail-able for the course.

    l Always Available: Displays activities that have been scheduledto always be available to students.

    l Current Activities: Displays the activities that are currentlyscheduled and available to students.

    l Future Activities: Displays activities that have been scheduledfor a future date and time.

    l Past Activities: Displays activities that were scheduled for pre-vious weeks.

    Grades TabThe Grades section displays grades for a course.

    Note: If you are taking more than one course, the course navigation pane will contain a course header foreach course. Clicking a course header, then clicking the Grades tab will display grades specific to thatcourse.

    You can view grades totaled byWork to Date or by Finale Grade.Work to Date takes into accountassessments that have been completed to date.

    Finale Grade will display your grade taking into account all assessments for the course:

  • To view more details, click on a grade category link.

    The Grades view forGrade-Its is displayed:

    TutorialsThe above video includes information about launching and completing Tutorials.

    Tutorials are interactive on-screen lessons linked to corresponding chapters of specific textbooks. Tutori-als are comprised of audio-enhanced, hands-on demonstrations, and review exercises that enable stu-dents to apply the skills demonstrated in the tutorial.

    Complete a TutorialIf you are enrolled in more than one course, select a course from the course navigation pane on the leftside of the page. SNAP displays the links specific to that course.

    To complete a tutorial,

    1. Click the Current Activities link in the course navigation pane.

    2. The Current Activities page is displayed.l If no tutorial is available on the Current Activities page, your instructor has not yet assigned atutorial for you to complete.

    l The date and time next to an assigned tutorial title is the time that tutorial will be available.

  • 3. Click on a Tutorial.4. On the Launch Tutorial screen, information about the selected tutorial is displayed:

    l The textbook associated with the tutorial.l The level and section associated with the tutorial.l The full title of the tutorial.

    5. Select the Launch this Tutorial with Audio checkbox to include audio with the tutorial.6. Tutorials with audio are much larger than tutorials without audio. If you have a limited connection to

    the Internet, the non-audio version will take less time to load.7. Click the Launch Tutorial button. The tutorial window is displayed.

  • 7. Follow the directions to work through the tutorial.

    l At the end of the tutorial is a skill review. You have three attempts to complete each step in thereview. Use the Steps button to solve the review. If your instructor has assigned this as a gradedtutorial, you will receive credit when the review is completed correctly.

    Tutorial Navigation

    l Click the Next button to move to the next screen of the tutorial.l Click the Previous button to move to a previous screen of the tutorial.l Click the Restart button to restart the tutorial.l Click the Audio button to turn the audio on or off.l Note: You must have selected the Launch this Tutorial with Audio for this option towork.

    8. Click the Exit button to close the tutorial.

  • Skill ExamsSkill Exams are comprised of interactive questions in which students perform a task using a MicrosoftOffice 2013 application. Skill Exams test comprehension and skills using the actual application studentsare learning.

    Complete a Skill ExamIf you are enrolled in more than one course, select a course from the course navigation pane on the leftside of the page. SNAP displays the links specific to that course.

    To complete a Skill Exam,

    1. Click the Current Activities link in the course navigation pane.

    l If no Skill Exam is available on the page, your instructor has not yet assigned a Skill Exam foryou to complete.

    l The date and time next to an assigned exam title is the time that tutorial will be available.

    2. Click on a Skill Exam link.3. On the next screen, information about the exam is displayed:

  • l A brief introduction.l When the exam will be available.

    l If required, enter an assigned proctor code, and click the OK button.

    Note: You must get the proctor code from your Instructor. Technical Support cannot look this pass-word up for students.

    4. Click the Attempt exam now button.5. Click the OK button to continue.

    6. On the next screen, more information about the exam is displayed:l The textbook associated with the exam.l The full title of the exam.l A brief introduction.l Information about time limit for the exam.l The maximum points available for the exam.l The number of attempts allowed for each skill item.

    7. Click on the Launch Exam button.

  • 8. Click on the Open button.

    Note: If an instance of the Microsoft Office application used in the exam is already open, a message boxwill appear to ask you to close the application before the exam can begin.

    9. The Microsoft Office application used in the Skill Exam opens and displays in the top portion of thewindow.l Information about the exam, such as the directions for each section in the exam, navigation but-tons, and status information is displayed further down on the page, below the application window.

    10. Follow the directions displayed in blue text in the lower portion of the window.11. Use the directions to perform the actions in the application window.

  • Exam Information

    l If more than one attempt is allowed for each skill item, a status box displays numberof attempts completed and number of attempts allowed for each skill item.

    l A time elapsed window is displayed to inform you of how much time has passedsince you started the exam.

    If a time limit is used:

    l The time elapsed window will be displayed with a countdown.l When the timer has run out, the exam is submitted automatically.l Note: If a student spends more than 60 seconds over the allotted time then theexam is automatically graded zero.

    Exam Navigation

    l Click the Reset button to reset the application window.

    l The application window will revert to how it appeared when the exam ques-tion, or step, started.

    l Click the View All... button to view a summary of the sections of the exam.

    l Each entry corresponds to a step, or a question, of the exam.l Double-click one of the exam sections in the summary window to navigate tothat step.

    l Select the Auto Reset checkbox to reset the application window when the ClickAnswer button is clicked.

    l If this option is not selected, you can click the Reset button to reset the applic-ation window.

    l You can change this setting at any time.l Click the Check Answer button to see if the step, or question, has beenanswered correctly. If the answer is correct, the Check Answer button will dis-

  • play the text Correct, and the exam will progress to the next section step.

    l If more than one attempt is allowed for each skill item, and the answer is incor-rect, the Check Answer button will display the text Incorrect, and the exam willprogress to the next section step.

    l If more than one attempt is allowed for each skill item, and the answer is incor-rect, the Check Answer button will display the text Incorrect, and the attemptstatus window will add an attempt to the counter.

    l Click the Next button to move to the next question.

    l Click the Previous button to move to a previous incomplete step.

    l Note:Once a question has been answered correctly, it is no longer possible tonavigate back to that question.

    l Click the Exit button to exit the exam.

    l A dialog box is displayed that asks if you are ready to exit the exam.

    l Click the Yes button to submit your answers or click the No button to continuethe exam.

    12. When all of the questions have been answered, an Exam Complete message will display and theexam window will close.

    13. The exam information page is displayed.l Based on the settings your instructor has selected, the exam information page will display thegrade on the page tab and for each attempt: the attempt number, the date and time the attemptwas completed, and some feedback about how well you did on the exam.

    l If more than one attempt is allowed for the exam, the page will display a Re-attempt exam button.

    l If the exam was closed before each question had been answered, the page will display aContinue the last attempt button.

  • View Exam AttemptsNote: The timing and amount of information about exam attempts will depend on the settings yourinstructor specify when scheduling the exam.

    If you are enrolled in more than one course, select a course from the course navigation pane on the leftside of the page. SNAP displays the links specific to that course.

    To view information about a Skill Exam attempt,

    1. Click the Current Activities link in the course navigation pane.

    2. Click on a Skill Exam link.

    3. On the next screen, click an attempt number in the Attempt column.

  • l The summary page displays information including the date and time of when the attempt startedand completed, the time taken to complete the exam, the raw score, and the grade.

    l The summary page also displays the questions, and depending on the settings your instructorincluded when scheduling the exam, additional information. Based on your instructor’s selections,you may be able to review the exam while it is still available or after the exam has been closed.You may be able to review responses, your score, your answers, and feedback.

    4. Click the Continue button to close the summary screen.

    Note: If your Instructor has allowed you to view the solutions, you can click the (Show Details) link to seestep by step directions.

    View Grade for a Skill ExamBased on the settings your instructor used when scheduling the exam, the grade might be set to be apractice exam meaning that the score is not included in your final grade. If more than one attempt isallowed, your instructor might specify that the highest grade, the average grade of all attempts, or the firstor last attempt is used to calculate your total grade.

    See the Grades page for information about how to view grades for a course.

    Concept ExamsConcept Exams are comprised of true/false, multiple-choice, or other kinds of questions that test yourknowledge of computer concepts and the specific program you are learning. Some questions are gradedautomatically and some questions need to be graded manually by your instructor. Question types youmay encounter include multiple choice, short answer, numerical, true-false, matching, embeddedanswers, and essay questions.

  • Complete a Concept ExamIf you are enrolled in more than one course, select a course from the course navigation pane on the leftside of the page. SNAP displays the links specific to that course.

    1. Click the Current Activities link in the course navigation pane.

    l If no Concept Exam is available on the page, your instructor has not yet assigned a ConceptExam for you to complete.

    l The date and time next to a Concept Exam title is the time that exam will be available.2. Click on a Concept Exam.

    3. On the next screen, information about the exam is displayed:l A brief introduction.l When the exam will be available.

    4. Click the Attempt exam now button.

    l The exam window is displayed.l Score: 1 is the point value for this item.

  • 5. Answer the questions.6. When you have finished answering the questions, click the Submit all and finish button.

    l A dialog box is displayed that asks if you if you are ready to submit your answers.7. Click the OK button to confirm or click the Cancel button to continue with the exam.

    l The exam information page is displayed. The exam information page will display the grade on thepage tab and the date and time the attempt was completed.

    l If more than one attempt is allowed for the exam, the page will display a Re-attempt exam button.

    l If the exam was closed before each question had been answered, the page will display aContinue the last attempt button.

    View Exam AttemptsTo view information about a Concept Exam attempt,

  • l The summary page also displays the questions, and depending on the settings your instructorincluded when scheduling the exam, may display additional information. Based on yourinstructor’s selection, you may be able to review the exam while it is still available or after theexam has been closed. You might be able to review responses, your score, your answers, andfeedback.

    4. Click the Continue button to close the summary screen.

    View Grade for a Concept ExamBased on the settings your instructor used when scheduling the exam, the grade might be set to be apractice exam meaning that the score is not included in your final grade. If more than one attempt isallowed, your instructor might specify that the highest grade, the average grade of all attempts, or the firstor last attempt is used to calculate your total grade.

    Grade-ItsThe latest additions to the SNAP 2013 content are Grade-Its. Grade-Its are activities that allow studentsto update live Microsoft Office files of Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel. They consist of end-of-chapter activities that assess the students’ knowledge of different parts of the chapter. They are availablefor completion online and offline.

    How To Complete an Assessment - Online

    Complete an Online Grade-ItIf you are enrolled in more than one course, select a course from the course navigation pane on the leftside of the page. SNAP displays the links specific to that course.

    To complete a Grade-It,

    1. Click the Current Activities link in the course navigation pane.

  • l If no Grade-Its is available on the page, your instructor has not yet assigned a Grade-It for you tocomplete.

    l The date and time next to an assigned exam title is the time that tutorial will be available.2. Click on a Grade-It link.

    3. Click the New Attempt button.

    l Assessment is available Online only:

  • l If assessment is available both Online and Offline, Online is selected by default:

    l If required, enter an assigned proctor code, and click the OK button.

    Note: You must get the proctor code from your Instructor. Technical Support cannot look this pass-word up for students.

  • Exam Information

    l If more than one attempt is allowed for the assessment, a status box displays num-ber of attempts completed out of the number of attempts available.

    l A time elapsed window is displayed to inform you of how much time has passedsince you started the assessment.

    If a time limit is used:

    l The time elapsed window will be displayed with a countdown.l When the timer has run out, the exam is submitted automatically.l Note: If a student spends more than 60 seconds over the allotted time then theexam is automatically graded zero.

    Grade-It Navigation

    l Click the Reset button to reset the assessment.

    l The application window will revert to how it appeared when the examquestion, or step, started.

    l Click the View All button to view a summary of the sections of the exam.

    l Each entry corresponds to a step, or a question, of the exam.l Select the Next Step button move to the nest step in the assessment.

    l Click the Next button to move to the next question.

  • l Click the Previous button to move to a previous incomplete step.

    l Note:Once a question has been answered correctly, it is no longer possibleto navigate back to that question.

    l Click the Check Answer to submit your attempt.

    l If you have additional attempts, you will have the option to start a newone:

    l Click the Exit button to exit the exam.

    l A dialog box is displayed that asks if you are ready to exit the exam.

    l Click the Yes button to submit your answers or click the No button to con-tinue the exam.

    12. When all of the questions have been answered, an Exam Complete message will display and theexam window will close.

The exam information page is displayed.l Based on the settings your instructor has selected, the exam information page will display thegrade on the page tab and for each attempt, the attempt number, the date and time the attemptwas completed, and some feedback about how well you did on the exam.

    How To Complete an Assessment - Offline

    Complete an Offline Grade-ItIf you are enrolled in more than one course, select a course from the course navigation pane on the leftside of the page. SNAP displays the links specific to that course.

    To complete a Grade-It,

    1. Click the Current Activities link in the course navigation pane.

    l If no Grade-Its is available on the page, your instructor has not yet assigned a Grade-It for you tocomplete.

    l The date and time next to an assigned exam title is the time that tutorial will be available.

    tions file.5. Save the document to a location on your computer.6. Click the Upload Attempt button.

  • 8. If you've already run the Check Configuration utility, click OK in the Opening grader.snapxml pop-up window.

    9. The SNAP Player Offline Uploader pop-up window will open. Click the Select File button.

  • 10. Navigate to where you saved the file on your local computer, and select it. On the SNAP Player Off-line Uploader pop-up window, click Begin Processing.

    11. The bar at the bottom of the page will show your progress as the file is uploaded and scored. Afterthe file is uploaded to the SNAP server and graded, a score will be displayed on the screen.

    12. At this point, it's safe to close the window, the score is stored on SNAP's servers.

    Taking a Performance EvaluationTo take a performance evaluation,
