There are no professional judges sitting in courts on an occasional basis or part time, since The Judicial Service Act doesn’t allow such posts.  Number of non‐professional judges (lay judges) who are not remunerated but who receive a simple defrayal of costs is 4065. This number represents a pool of lay‐judges but data on actual sitting days are not available. Although lay‐judges are in full capacity of a judge as a member of a panel of judges, they can’t hear cases on their own and therefore none of the cases can be solved by them without the presence of professional judge, who also takes care of all the procedures, writing the judgement etc.
