    1- Aleppo Sub-Office:

    III. WHO RESPONSE

    Trauma • Ongoing support of Aleppo DoH with 100 personal protective equipment • Assistive devices (walkers, crutches and wheelchairs) have been distributed to many

    partners.

    COVID-19

    • Ongoing distribution of fabric masks in Aleppo city.

    • Conducted several meetings with SARC Aleppo to disseminate the last WHO updates for health workers.

    • Monitoring and follow up of tested samples and people in isolation is being conducted on a daily basis.

    • Submitted the contingency UN personnel plan.

    Mental Health • WHO supported: ➢ Ibn Khaldoun psychiatric hospital: outpatient clinic providing consultations in

    hospital location; with full range of services for 214 in-patients in the hospital. Assessment for current shortage in psychotropic, shipment to be delivered shortly from central warehouse

    ➢ The supported team from one NGOs in collaboration with MH hospital delivered at home services through 9 field visits, covering more than 65 beneficiaries, including delivery of psychotropic, MH consultations and family psychosocial support.

    ➢ Field visit accompanied the team as a monitoring activity, 5 families were met, satisfactory about the service was document.

    • Integrated MHPSS services were delivered to the community through 5 NGOs in the city, the emergency areas, and HTRs, wherein, multi-MHPSS teams embedded with MMTs are functioning in NWS response, with the focus on COVID-19 response. Delivered 6587 mental health consultations in 33 different locations in Aleppo Governorate.

    • Supportive supervision follow up was provided to trained health and community workers in the field to share knowledge and enhance skills in providing MH consultations

    • Several technical meetings on bilateral manners with health partners” quest scope, SSSD, ASSLs, IHSSAN chiairy, UNDP, and UNICEF”, focused on MHPSS response for COVID-19, and way forward to enhance MHPSS interventions, sharing updates and manuals, providing technical support about project implementation in the context of COVID19.

    • in collaboration with Aleppo team, preparation for raising awareness campaign for IPC, RCCE and MHPSS response for COVID-19 on the community level.

    2- Homs Sub-Office:

    Coordination • On the 28 July, 2020; participated in inter-Sector Joint Assessment Mission to Southern Rural Idleb. Humanitarian assessment was done to Khan Shaykhun and Tamanaah sub-districts – Khan Shaykhun and Big Khwein towns.

    • Sub national polio vaccination campaign 19-23/7/2020: The total number of the vaccinated children in 9 health districts in Homs governorate was 15,913 (91% of the targeted 17,408)

    • The total number of the vaccinated children in 7 health districts in Hama is 30378 (106% of the targeted 27,870)

    • Independent monitoring was completed in both governorates.

    WHO Activities in the Context of

    COVID-19 in Homs and Hama

    • The total tested samples in Homs PHL was 2,476 till 13 July, out of which 588 were tested in Homs PHL, and 822 tests were sent from Damascus. The total number of tests done in Hama was 498.

    • 1,550 people were quarantined in Homs till 15 August, and 398 people in Hama.

    • PPEs were delivered to DOH Homs (90 disposable gowns) and 340 liters of alcohol to support isolation centers.

    • WHO supported 7 mobile teams (2 from DOH Homs and 2 DOH Hama and 3 of LNGO) to provide health services in rural Homs with special focus on the second destination of Rukban returnees, and south Idleb district (Sinjar) and providing special awareness campaigns for COVID 19 with posters delivered from WHO.

    Rukban Returnees

    • The total number of people who left Rukban transiting through Homs shelters is 19,483 people, of whom 329 people left Rukban supported by UN/SARC. As of 05 August, 225 people (37 males, 64 females, 87 children and 37 infants) out of 251 who arrived in Homs on 21 July and hosted in Bara’a Ibn Malek shelter in Deir Ba’alba neighborhood, left the shelter toward their second areas of choice (223 people left on 03 Aug and 2 people left on 05 Aug).

    Primary Health Care

    • WHO supported 2 medical mobile teams in Hama to cover health needs in north-eastern Hama , and in south-west Hama (total provided medical consultations were 1,788 and 255 PSS services were provided during the reported period).

    • Supported 2 medical mobile teams in Homs to cover health needs in the second Rukban destination (east Homs district ) and Kuseir district (1789 medical consultations)

    National NGOs Coordination

    • WHO-supported LNGO (Al-burr Hama ) with health project (including PSS services)

    • 3 mobile medical teams and one health center in Hama governorate to provide primary health services in south Idleb district (Sinjar area), north-east area (Al-Hamra

    district), south Hama area and the city. The total number of medical consultations was 3525 medical consultations and 650 PSS services provided during the reported period.

    3-Al Qamishli Sub-Office:

    Coordination • Conducted the weekly health sector coordination meeting in Al-Hol camp, the main discussed issues were:

    1. Updates on the general health situations.

    2. COVID-19 Sub-Committees updates. 3. The health services provision in the annex / new established services area.

    4. The establishment of the isolation area and the main needs.

    5. The services area in the annex. • Following the announcement of the KSA concerning the 4 positive cases among

    health workers in Al-Hol camp, the health sector conducted an urgent meeting in

    which they discussed the following:

    a. No one is allowed to enter the camp if not passing through the

    screening stage at the main gate.

    b. Activating the isolation area immediately.

    c. To prepare the BCP and the plans of full lockdown soon.

    • Only the lifesaving activities will continue to be conducted for the coming 14 days.

    • Initiated the contact tracing for the patients who visited the medical points where the 3 positive cases reported.

    • Started a daily meeting on the sub-committees level to stand on the regular changes and developments.

    • WHO stepped in to cover the gap to operate the isolation area in Al-Hol camp as a last resort.

    • Assessment was conducted for the NES formal and informal settlements for the PPEs needs, procurement process is planned to be indicted to cover the gaps.

    • Conducted several field missions/meetings with various actors during the recent visit of the health cluster coordinator, the mission aimed to:

    1. Assess and map the current operational capacity of partners in NES, considering the current situation of XB partners.

    2. Discuss the supplies need and contribution of health sector partners to contribute to the response.

    3. Assess coordination functions and how to improve the coordination structure at hub level .

    4. Assess the opportunities to enhance XL delivery of health supplies and potential service gaps based on :

    a. Needs b. Assessing the capacity that could be delivered by each partner. c. Identifying gaps and seeking solutions.

    WHO Activities in the Context of EWARS & CDs

    • During this period 59 health medical point reported in addition to the 2 field hospitals.

    • The total consultations were (15408)

    • The total disease cases were (2944)

    • The most common conditions reported were Acute Diarrhea 1515 followed up

    with ILI 1148, notable decrease in bloody diarrhea (11) compared to previous

    month (195).

    • 3 suspected Measles cases reported in the reported period and followed by DOH,

    RRT; the final results were negative for all cases.

    • 50 cases of chicken pox reported during this period noted decreases (101) in

    previous month.

    • 21 mumps cases vs 29 in the previous month.

    • Only 1 SARI cases (the same in previous month) Acute Bronchitis, while were 82

    in April 2020.

    • 7 suspected cases of COVID 19 cases by DoH – in Al-Qamishli N.H, with 2 deaths.

    Al Hol Camp

    • During this period 11 health medical point reported in addition to the 2 field hospitals.

    • The total consultations are 13,123 reported from medical point and 1079

    consultation reported by the 2 field hospitals as MSJM not functioning.

    • The most common conditions reported is Acute Diarrhea 1761 followed up with

    ILI 1288.

    • Overall the diarrhea cases decreased with summertime (11.4 % out of all consultation in Week 32) in the other hand the ILI recorded (12.5%) comparing to

    15% in week 18.

    • 1 suspected SARI case reported.

    • On 14/7/2020 Leishmania Clinic in Phase 5 in Al Hol camp was reactivated and start working the same day.

    • Follow up and attend AlHol regular working group meetings.

    COVID-19 Activities

    • Lead and establish the sub-committee of COVID19 surveillance, CPHL

    (central laboratory) samples collection and point of entry in the camps for

    thermal scan for Enter/exit, in addition to SARI/COVID-19 case

    management in Al Hol camp, this committee included: KRC – ICRC – MSF,H

    – IRC – UPP – CADUS- DSA health committee and WHO.

    The total Cases in Hassaka gov:

    • In total 42 suspected cases reported in Hassaka Gov. samples were collected and sent to the Central Lap in Damascus.

    • Following up concerning the Isolation center in AlHol camp including the needs, equipment, monitoring, in addition to follow up on the suspected cases in coordination with DoH and stakeholders.

    Eastern Part of Deir Ez-Zor & Ar-Raqqa:

    • Due to Turkish activities, the Euphrates water level decreased.

    • Villages without water stations; Hermoshi, Kasra, Hamar, Al-Koubar, Hawaij

    Dhiab, & Alsur

    • Villages with water stations; Jazret Albuhamid , Almylaj, Alely, Alzaghir,

    Bumasaeih, Muhimidah, Safirih, Alhisan, & Shuqraan.

    • The total disease cases were (17604)

    • The most common conditions reported were Acute Diarrhea 2228.

    • A case of suspected polio was recorded, samples were collected and were not

    sent due to a road cut. The case will be followed up in cooperation with the

    immunization team.

    • No positive COVID-19 cases were reported.

    • Six suspected cases were recorded in the east of the river, and samples were

    taken by the SDF Health Board , a PCR analysis was performed in Qamishli, and

    the result was positive according to the statement of the Health Board.

    Ar-Raqqa:

    • 4 Suspected COVID19 cases reported, samples collected and sent to Damascus.

    Nutrition • 13 cases with complicated SAM were admitted to Al-Hikma SC, 15 discharged 6 still under treatment.

    • 7 SAM cases with complication were admitted to Tabqah SC, , 5 discharged 3 still

    under treatment.

    Trauma Making regular visits to Al Hol camp to:

    • follow up and update the services of the field hospitals in the camp.

    • (Maryakoub hospital is still suspending their work till now the final update that they will resume their activities after ‘Eid).

    • Monitoring the referral from camps to be restricted for only lifesaving cases, malnutrition and incubator services.

    • Making regular Visits to WHO contracted hospitals (Al Hekmeh and Al Hayat

    hospital) to follow up on patients treatments and coordinate the referral

    process.

    • during July 2020 Al Hekmeh hospital admitted only 36 patients (11 incubator cases, 16 malnutrition, 3 ophthalmologic cases , 6 trauma cases).

    • Assessing the needs of IDPs from Ras Alaein in 20 collective shelters in rural Alhasakeh .

    • Conduct on- job training for the medical staff at Alhol camp isolation centre (Al birr charitable society), this training includes covid19 case management, IPC, and the mechanism of work in the isolation Centre.

    • Designing the SOPs for isolation Centre in Al Hol camp according to WHO recommendations and recent updates, after discussion with the relevant partners and receiving comments, SOPs were modified and shared with all partners.

    Wash:

    • Visits to 8 IDP camps in NES were conducted during the reporting period (Al Hol, Areesha, Roj, Neuroze, Mahmoudli, Abu Khashab, Old Menbge, New Menbge), and 60 collective shelters in Hasakah for monitoring drinking water quality.

    • Water chlorination:

    38,350 chlorine tablets (NaDCC 1.67g, for 1000L) were distributed to public establishment for Drinking Water in Hasakah, the beneficiaries are 250,000 for 2 months.

    • Indicators:

    # of samples tested Al-Hol: 207 samples, Areesha: 191 samples, Abu Khashab: 60 samples, Mahmoudli: 60 samples, Roj: 52 samples, Nowruz: 41 samples, Old Menbge: 38 samples, New Menbge: 38 samples, collective shelters in Hasakah: 60 samples.

    HIS: Conducting a study of health facilities in the area under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces, as the study included the following:

    The (WHO) office in Qamishli has delivered a batch of medical aid to the National Hospital in Raqqa

    have been distributed the following health facilities supported by WHO (Qamishli National Hospital, Raqqa National Hospital, Tabqqa National Hospital, SARC,ICRC,DOH Hasskeh,...)with total weight 15681.

    • Support leishmania center in Al Hol Camp with PPS, Medical Supplies, and Glucantime1.5g/ 5ml.

    • PPEs and Medical Supplies were distributed to DOH Alhasskeh, NGPHCC, and NGH in Alhasskeh, Dier ez-zor and Ar-Raqqa Governorates with total weight 3048.48.

    4-Deir-Ez-Zor Sub-Office: • Within the capacity building activities that aimed to increase the preparedness for

    ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, WHO has supported a five days training workshop on immediate life support and ventilation management for 25 health workers in Deir-ez-Zor.

    • WHO has supported five days training Workshop on nutrition surveillance clinics expansion and monthly reporting. 20 health workers from 11 PHC have been added to the nutrition surveillance network in Deir-ez-Zor governorate.

    • WHO supported two training workshops on COVID-19 protocols in level B PHCs, 50 HCWs from the city and rural health center have benefited from the training which aims to have PHCs prepared for ongoing outbreak.

    • The second polio campaign for this year has been conducted for five days from 9 - 23 July in areas under GoS in Deir-ez-Zor governorate. However, the campaign has been delayed three days in areas under SDF due to security situations.

    • Total of 309,180 children under five have been vaccinated with bivalent OPV.

    • WHO has supported DoH in Deir-ez-Zor by procuring 19,550 masks; 8,000 gloves; and 300 gowns to protect health worker in isolation wards and other health facilities.

    5- Latakia Sub-Office:

    • Weekly meetings with DOH to discuss the daily updates on COVID-19 and develop a contingency plan in parallel with the evolving situation in the coastal area.

    • Conducted a meeting with Latakia and Tartous governors to prioritize the governorate’s needs and demonstrate WHO interventions in the governorate.

    • Weekly meetings with agencies, involved with COVID-19 response, to update the response matrix.

    • In collaboration with WFP, managed to support people in quarantine facilities in Latakia and Tartous with food items.

    • Supported the isolation facility in Latakia / Al-Haffeh Hospital with 2000 multiuse coverall.

    • Updated DOH guidelines on testing criteria, patient discharge, and contact tracing protocols.

    • Conducted an assessment study to the COVID-19 testing lab in Latakia, to estimate the needs in order to raise the capacity of conducting tests from 120 to nearly 400 per day, so to cover the increasing demands.

    • Conducted field visits to the isolation and quarantine facilities in Tartous and Latakia and to the main hospitals in the governorates to assess the implemented IPC measures and triage system.

    • Conducted polio vaccination campaign and reached a total coverage of 103% in Tartous and 109% in Latakia.
