The First Day of School I used to be little, but not anymore. Tomorrow I'll get up and walk out the door. I'm going to school--it's the first time for me. It's great to be big, but I'm scared as can be. My tummy's in knots. Do you want to

know why? I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, I'll cry. When Dad leaves the school and I'm there all alone, I'm thinking that maybe I'll want to go home. But wait--Mommy said I'll play lots of new games, and meet lots of friends--I can learn all their names. The first day of school, oh there's so much to do! There's painting and books and a big playground, too. I used to be little, but not anymore. Tomorrow I'll get up and walk out the door. I'm going to school--it's my first day, you see. It's great to be big! I'm so glad that I'm me!

Pure In Heart Tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb God can see inside of me, Inside of me, inside of me. God can see inside of me He looks in at my heart. He knows if it is pure or not, Pure or not, pure or not. He knows if it is pure or not, Way down inside my heart. He blesses all the pure in heart, Pure in heart, pure in heart. He blesses all the pure in heart The Bible tells me so. So trust in God and walk in love, Walk in love, walk in love. Trust in God and walk in love, That is the way to go!

I Can Learn Tune: Sing a Song of Sixpence When I think of Jesus I’m happy as can be. I love Jesus dearly— Jesus loves me. Even though I’m little, Oh, I can learn to do Helpful things to please my Lord The same as each of you.

I Am Special I am special (point to self) Because God made me. (point to heaven, then self) I’m not like a bunny (form ears and hop) Or an apple tree (arms circle above head and sway) I can love and think (hands on heart then point to head) I can talk and say (point to mouth) “I Love Everybody. “ (arms spread wide) God made me that way. (point to self)

Angel Poems 1. Little Angel, hear my prayer Guard me, watch me, all the day. By my side when night grows deep, Bless me and keep me while I sleep. 2. Oh, my good Angel, kind and dear. How glad I am that you are here. Stay close by me day and night. And help me do all that is right. 3. One, two, three, four, five There’s an angel by my side. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten I know he/she’s my friend. I wish I could see the bright angel Who walks by my side I want to whisper a thank you For being a guard and my guide.

Guardian Angel I have a Guardian Angel Who never leaves my side That’s why there’s really nowhere That from him/her I can hide. He/She guards me and he/she guides me And protects me through each day Even when I go to sleep He/She does not go away. Someday when I’m in heaven That’s where I want to be I will see my dear, kind angel And thank him/her for helping me.

Angel, angel Tune: Teddy Bear, teddy bear Angel, angel turn around, Angel, angel touch the ground Angel, angel watch me fly Angel, angel touch the sky.

(verses may be added for different actions)

Stuff an empty toilet paper roll with candy. Wrap the roll with birthday paper and place ribbon on each side of the roll. It’s a special birthday treat to discover what’s inside.

A Thanksgiving Prayer

Thanksgiving is a special time For us to pause and say

Thank you, God for all the blessings You send to us each day.

It is God who makes the sun to shine

And sends the rains, you know; The very things we need to make

The fields and gardens grow.

For food we eat, the homes we love, And for our loved ones dear.

We bow our heads and thank you, God. For blessings of the year.

Mr. Turkey Mr. Turkey’s tail is big and wide, He swings it when he walks. His neck is long, His chin is red, He gobbles when he talks. Mr. Turkey is so tall and proud, He dances on his feet, And on each Thanksgiving Day He’s such a tasty treat!

Post Office Chart Game

A E I O U

Mr. Max Mrs. Hen Mr. Bill Miss Fox Mrs. Duck

Miss Cat Ms. Pig Mr. Ox

Deliver letters to the short/long vowels houses. Have a chart like the one above posted or use envelopes with each vowel written on it. Have students place names in the correct “mailbox.” See which vowel gets the most mail

Musical Vocabulary Play music and have children pass vocabulary or phonics cards around. When the music stops, the child must identify the word on the card they have and use it in a sentence. (also works great for math facts)

Snooping Send children “snooping” through books, stories, magazines to find certain words—vowel words, blend words, compound words, etc. May the best SNOOPER win!
