1. A SMP meeting was held on 10 January 2018 at MCAS Camp Pendleton Hall of Heroes. List of those in attendance is provided on the sign

This meeting is the first meeting with Barracks managers here in attendance, so we may discuss any issues brought up. This

will continue moving forward.

There was a bed bug case in 24 area, pay better attention during inspections. If one barracks room gets these, it spreads.

That room gets quarantine and no one can be moved in.

For this area, the SMP trips require special liberty chits to encourage more Marines to attend.

Next Day of Service – always the third Thursday of the month. This month: 18th of January 0800 - 1600. Each squadron to provide

2-3 Marines. Names to attend should be sent via the S-4 air station Logistics Department.

Million Dollar Marine Program – Program designed to provide service members, government employees, and family members

opportunities to learn more about proper budgeting and more. This program is Open Forum in the auditorium of the Hall of

Heroes (HoH). Attendees are given the opportunity to ask financial related questions and receive answers from experienced

financial specialists. There will also be breakout rooms for specific financial briefs, such as investing and homeownership.

Jan 19 – Education and Interest Assessment Workshop - This workshop will assist you to identify your career interest, abilities, and values in order to create an action plan for your educational or career pathway

Jan 25 - Technology Industry Forum & Hiring Event 8:30am – 4pm at Pacific Views Event Center. The Forum is to focus on and provide industry information regarding employment outlook, career paths and opportunities, training and certification required, and bridging military skills to technology careers creating a clear pathway for the service member to obtain employment. There will be 2 employer panels to address these topics. Microsoft is sponsoring lunch, followed by a Microsoft Skills Workshop. The Hiring Event consists of employers with career opportunities in technology/technical occupations. They are highly encouraged to conduct pre-screening interviews with qualified job seekers. CalHR will provide a workshop on how to streamline the hiring and interviewing process with the State of California.

Advanced registration is required for all SMP trips, events & volunteer opportunities. Program events are open only to single Marine and Sailors stationed on Camp Pendleton. Participants who volunteer must register in advance with SMP HQ in order to receive a letter of appreciation. Volunteers must provide their own transportation except for PE fitness Challenge. A signed command permission slip is required for all SMP activities. All activities depart from Semper Fit Headquarters Bldg. 1253. Unless otherwise stated and require that participants utilize the provided transportation.

01/10 – MCAS Camp Pendleton & MAG-39 Council Meeting monthly meeting will be held at 1200 at Hall of Heroes Bldg. 2368 01/11 – Camp Pendleton Installation SMP Council Meeting monthly meeting will be held at 1330 at 33 Area SMP Rec Center Bldg. 3348 01/01 - Polar Bear Plunge – 1100 at Del Mar Beach Resort, take a quick dip in the Pacific Ocean to celebrate the New Year. Costumes are encouraged! DJ will kick off the plunge at noon. Ramone’s Cantina will provide FREE hot cocoa, coffee, & breakfast burrito per participant. 01/12 Archery Day – Come learn the basics of Archery for only $5.00 at Balboa Park. This cost includes transportation, equipment, lesson, & snacks. Departure from Semper Fit HQ Bldg. 1253 at 0930. Registration opens Dec 19th & ends Jan 9th. SMP Volunteer Opportunities Retirement Home Visits Have dinner with the residents. Charlies are the requested uniform for these events. Max of 6-10 volunteers needed for each opportunity. Each event begins at 1600. 01/09- Rancho Vista Retirement Home 01/10 - Pacific Place Retirement Home 01/31 - Fairwinds Retirement Home 01/03 & 01/24 - 1000 Base Stables Volunteer Day Camp Pendleton Stables, Bldg. 1516. Participants will help clean & groom horses, clean stalls, & help with general maintenance at the stables. Uniform of the day is civilian attire. Closed toed shoes are required. A maximum of 10 participants are needed for this opportunity. Participants must sign up prior to the event. Bring water! 01/26 – 0630 PE Fitness Challenge Volunteers will host an all-day fitness challenge at an on-base school. All volunteers must meet at Semper Fit Headquarters at 0630. Please eat breakfast before you arrive. Dress attire is the Marine Corps Running Suit with green PT shorts and plain skivvy shirt underneath. Lunch will be provided. 40 volunteers needed.
