simplifying your language

Dear Teachers: Dear Teachers: Hello! I noticed that often, when you make grammatical mistakes or come up with awkward sentences, it is BECAUSE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING T O MA TCH YOUR STU DENT·S PROFI CIENCY LEVEL . For example, when you have a student that speaks in fragments, such as ´Teacher, I go movie Saturdayµ instead of saying ´Did you watch a movie with your friends?µ you might say, ´Did you watch movie with friends?µ even if you know better! This does not help your student at all; removing function words (articles, linking verbs, prepositions etc.) does not improve the comprehensibility of your sentences . It is important to SIMPLIFY your language, but it is not necessary to butcher it for the student· s benefit. How should you go about it then?
