A. DEFINITION OF PRESENT TENSE

Present Tense is verb form that shows the time of the action at present/now.

B. PATTERNS OF PRESENT TENSE

1) Nominal

Nominal is sentences form that its ordinary likely members of be and is combinated

with three complement.

1 (-?)1 Is,Am, Are + S + Not + O/3C

2 (-?)2 Isn’t, Aren’t + S + O/3C

Informal !!!

Example:

1. (+) You are handsome.

(-) You are not Handsome.

(?) Are you handsome?

(-?1 Are you not handsome?

(-?)2 Aren’t you handsome?

2. (+) I am a deligent.

(-) I am not a deligent.

C. USING OF PRESENT TENSE

USE 1: Repeated Actions / Habitual Action

Use the Simple Present to express the idea that an action is repeated or usual.

Examples:

o I play tennis every Monday.

o Does he play tennis?

o When does the train usually leave?

o Every twelve months, the Earth circles the Sun.

USE 2: General Truth

It is also used to make generalizations about people or things.

Examples:

o Jakarta is in Indonesia.

o PTIQ is in Jaksel.

o Birds do not like milk.

o The sun rises in the west.

USE 3: Scheduled Events in the Near Future

Speakers occasionally use Simple Present to talk about scheduled events in the near

future. This is most commonly done when talking about public transportation, but it can be

used with other scheduled events as well.

Examples:

o The train leaves tonight at 6 PM.

o The party starts at 8 o'clock.

o When does class begin tomorrow?

USE 4: Change of Continous if its verb is suitable

Examples:

o I want to eat now.

Not,

I am wanting to eat now.

USE 5: Head line of Newspapaer or Megasine

Example:

o Indonesia hold PON XVII again

D. USING OF PRESENT TENSE

o Just Pronoun (She, He, It, and Singular name)

o Add es If Its verb the And with word :

1. Ch Watches

2. Sh Washes

3. Ss Passes

4. X Mixes

5. O Goes

o If its verb the and with Y and its before consonan. Y change with i then add

es.

o Other than above, add with s.

E. EXAMPLE IN SENTENCES OF PRESENT TENSE

I have a friend. His name is Hamsa. Hamsa is deligent student.He always gets up

early. He always tidies up his bed every day. I am very happy, because he always helps me

solve my problem. Hamsa not only deligent but also good friend.

Hamsa is smart student in class. He always gets good score in every subjet. All of

lecturer like him. Beside that, Hamsa recites and memorises Al-quran each day. He is good

moslem.
