HEALTH CONDITION

We have had some children diagnosed with Impetigo (school sores). Whilst common, this skin condition is quite infectious. I ask that you monitor your child/ren and if any blisters appear, I urge you to take them to the doctor as soon as possible as antibiotics will need to be prescribed. If your child is diagnosed with Impetigo, I also ask that you notify the school. I thank you in advance for your assistance with this matter.

MEET THE TEACHER This afternoon we are holding our 2015 Meet the Teacher afternoon. The K-2 session is from 5pm to 6pm and the 3-6 session is from 6pm to 7pm. I look forward to seeing you here.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL The 2015 carnival is to be held this coming Thursday at the Penrith Pool (Ripples). The carnival will commence at 7pm and is for competitors only. Please refer to the note that was sent home earlier this term for further details. Please also note that this carnival is for children in Years 3 to 6 ONLY.

SAFETY I remind all families that we have a supervised crossing at the front of the school. I implore you to use this crossing in an attempt to avoid any accidents occurring. We have many families who are just ‘ducking’ across the road all along the front of the school in attempt to get home quicker. It is crucial that we all work together for the collective safety of our whole school community. I also remind parents/carers once again that the staff car park is only for staff and those families who have sought permission from Mr Arnold to enter it. We are still having families drive in to the car park both mornings and afternoons to collect/drop off children. This must stop as it is compromising the safety of our students.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS Each year public schools ask parents/carers for a small monetary contribution. This contribution greatly assists us to enhance our school resources. Last year a high percentage of our families paid the contribution and the money was used to purchase a range of new reading resources. This year my aim is to use the contributions to purchase additional iPads for the students to use in classrooms and enhance our Wi-Fi availability. We will only be able to do this with the money collected from contributions.

The 2015 rate is $50 per child, with a maximum of $100 per family (ie. families only need to pay for the first 2 children as the subsequent kids are included in the family payment). Please complete the slip on the final page of this newsletter and send in to the office along with your payment. If paying online, please use the reference: VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION. While we will accept the payment of the contributions at any time, to assist in the planning of how many iPads we will be able to purchase, I ask that this payment be made by Friday 20 March, 2015.

HARMONY DAY Harmony Day celebrations will be later this term. The message of Harmony Day is ‘Everyone Belongs’. It is a day to celebrate Australia’s diversity. This year we’re saying ‘thank you’ to everyone who has made Harmony Day the success that it is. We are looking for a few parents, entertainers, groups or organisations that would like to volunteer their time and perform for the children (suggestions: Belly dancers, Bollywood dancers, Aboriginal entertainment, Haka or any other traditional dancers or martial arts displays etc). We’d like to show the “Celebration” of cultures in our community. If you are interested or know of family or friends that would like to participate, please come and see me or contact the school. Thank you Jennifer Filo
