It was a "Living the Gospel" weekend. Members from Church of the Brethren congregations in the Shenandoah District came together to worship, follow Christ's examples of servanthood through feet-washing and sacrifice through communion, to share stories of spirit-filled congregations in our midst and to transact necessary business.
Under the leadership of Moderator Glenn Bollinger (Beaver Creek), these are some of the highlights of our District Conference on Nov. 1 and 2:
At the Milestones in Ministry banquet early Friday evening, 27 pastors with a combined total of 1,292 years of ordained ministry were present and were recognized. Nineteen of those were ordained more than 50 years ago; Sam Flora, with 70 years of service, was the most senior pastor in attendance. Eight others present were recog-nized on the five-year anniversaries of their ordination (complete list on Page 2). David Steele, moderator-elect of the Annual Conference, called on our churches to grow together as communities.
Later Friday, 287 people attended the worship where Brother Glenn preached on the conference theme, "Living the Gospel." Wor-

Saturday's business session brought together represen-tatives from 79 congregations with a delegate body of 243 (134 elected delegates, 62 pastors, 36 board chairs and 11 alternates seated as delegates.) Seventy non-delegates also registered. The Saturday offering for district ministries was $2,420.72.

The conference closed with consecration of Jan Orn-dorff (Sugar Grove) as 2014 District Conference moderator and Cole Scrogham as moderator-elect. Sister Jan an-nounced that “The Return of the Word” will be the theme for the 2014 conference Nov. 7 and 8 at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.

Calling New Leadership
The district’s Gifts Discernment Team (GDT), under
the leadership of 2014 District Conference Moderator
Jan Orndorff, encourages congregations and individuals
to nominate qualified persons for district leadership.
Those persons nominated will be asked to participate in
a gifts assessment process and conversations with the
GDT. As gifts are identified and matched with available
positions, nominees will be asked to serve. Not all posi-
tions are open every year, of course, but the names of
qualified nominees are maintained in a talent bank for
future opportunities to serve.
Go to www.shencob.org/district_conference for a de-
scription of leadership team responsibilities and a nomi-
nation form.
