catcher from Wake Forest, NC, has

emerged as the starting catcher

this season. Ashley is batting .283

in 53 at bats and has scored nine

times along with 15 hits, 11 RBI, two

doubles, and two walks. She has

been a stout defensive player,

recorded just one error in 159 attempts and has made

several diving catches to rob opponents in foul territory.

Today’s Doubleheader: Lynchburg welcomes the Hornets of Shenandoah University to Aubrey R. Moon, Jr. Field for a non-conference doubleheader.

Lynchburg’s Previous Doubleheader: Lynchburg College recorded a 0-3, 5-0 split with Bridgewater College on Friday in ODAC play. The split gives LC the #1 overall seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Bridgewater’sAshleyGillsquietedtheHornetbatters inthefirstgametoearn a complete-game, one-hit, shutout victory. LC was down just 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, but the Eagles were able to tack on two runs to build an insurmountable 3-0 lead. In the second game, the pitching excellence took a 180-degree turn as Katie Bruce threw a gem to propel LC back on the winning side. The Lynchburg bats camealive in the thirdas theystruckfirstwith tworunsafter theEaglescommitted two costly errors. LC tacked on another run in the fourth inning to take a comfortable 3-0 lead. Lynchburg cemented the victory in the seventh inning with two more runs. Brucefinishedgametwowithacareer-high12strikeoutsandallowedjustfivehits.Allsopwas2-4withonerunandLaurenDuguaywas2-for-3withtwoRBI.

Shenandoah’s Previous Game: Top-seeded Christopher Newport University

claimed the 2009 USA South Conference softball Tournament title Sunday

afternoon with a 4-1 victory over second-seeded Shenandoah.

Shenandoah took the initial lead Sunday after scoring a run in the top of the

fourth on two hits. Senior Catherine Beuerle, who was one of three SU players

named to the All-Tournament team, led off with a single to left and then scored

allthewayfromfirstwhenChristopherNewportbootedJesseHeins’singleto

left for a two-base error.

The Captains answered with one run in the bottom of the frame on a double,

sacrificeandasqueezebeforeclinchingitwithathree-runsixth.Firstbaseman

Kristin Nickloy provided all of those runs as she took Hornets pitcher Katie

Haskins (16-4) deep for a three-run HR to left.

Haskinsstruckoutfiveandallowed four runsonsixhits in6.0 innings.

Kristen Rowe (20-1), who was named the Tournament MVP, struck out six and

walked just one to earn the win. Haskins and Lauren Wall joined Beuerle on the

All-Tournament team.
