Shastra on the Door to Understanding the Hundred
Dharmas
Written by Tin-Tsun Bodhisattva

As the World Honored one has said, "all Dharmas have no self."
What are all Dharmas, and what is meant by having no self? All Dharmas may be generallygrouped into five categories:
1. Mind Dharmas2. Dharmas interactive with the Mind3. Form Dharmas4. Dharmas not interactive with the Mind5. Unconditioned Dharmas
They are in this sequence because the first are supreme, the second interact with the first, thethird are the shadows manifest by the previous two, the fourth are the positions in which theprevious three are not found, and the last are revealed by the previous four.
The first, Mind Dharmas, include in general eight:
1. The Eye Consciousness2. The Ear Consciousness3. The Nose Consciousness4. The Tongue Consciousness5. The Body Consciousness6. The Mind Consciousness7. The Manas Consciousness8. The Alaya Consciousness
The second, Dharmas interactive with the Mind, include in general fifty-one. They are dividedinto six categories:
1. The five universally interactive2. The five particular states3. The eleven wholesome4. The six fundamental afflictions

5. The twenty derivative afflictions6. The four unfixed
The five particular states are:
1. Desire2. Resolution3. Recollection4. Concentration5. Judgment
The eleven wholesome Dharmas are:
1. Faith2. Vigor3. Shame
4. Remorse5. Absence of greed6. Absence of anger7. Absence of stupidity8. Light ease9. Non-laxness10. Renunciation11. Non-harming
The six fundamental afflictions are:
1. Greed2. Anger3. Stupidity4. Arrogance5. Doubt6. Improper views
The twenty derivative afflictions are:
1. Wrath2. Hatred3. Rage4. Covering5. Deceit6. Flattery7. Conceit8. Harming9. Jealousy10. Stinginess

11. Lack of shame12. Lack of remorse13. Lack of faith14. Laziness15. Laxness
16. Torpor17. Restlessness18. Distraction19. Improper knowledge20. Scatteredness
The four unfixed are:
1. Sleep2. Regret3. Examination
4. Investigation
The third category is the Form Dharmas. In general there are eleven kinds:
1. Eyes2. Ears3. Nose4. Tongue5. Body6. Forms7. Sounds8. Smells9. Flavors10. Objects of touch11. Dharmas pertaining to form
The fourth category is the Dharmas not interactive with the Mind. In general, there aretwenty-four:
1. Attainment (acquisition)2. Life-faculty3. Generic similarity4. Dissimilarity5. The no thought samadhi6. The samadhi of extinction7. The reward of no thought8. Bodies of phonemes`9. Bodies of sentence10. Bodies of phonemes11. Birth

12. Dwelling13. Aging14. Impermanence15. Revolution16. Distinction
17. Interaction18. Speed19. Sequence20. Tim21. Direction22. Numeration23. Combination24. Discontinuity
The fifth category is the Unconditioned Dharmas of which there are, in general, six:
1. Unconditioned empty space2. Unconditioned extinction which is attained by selection3. Unconditioned extinction which is unselected4. Unconditioned unmoving extinction5. Unconditioned extinction of feeling and thinking6. Unconditioned True Suchness
What is meant by there being no self? There are in general, two kinds of Non-self:
1. The Non-self of Pudgala2. The Non-self of Dharmas
