Winter Holiday Workshops
Year 12 Japanese Continuers Course
On 8 and 9 July, our Year 12 Japanese Continuers class attended a HSC
workshop by JTAN at Macquarie University. The workshop was a two-day
course with classes that targeted listening, reading, writing and speaking skills
that would be beneficial for the best performance in the upcoming
examinations. There were students participating from a variety of schools and
we were taught by experienced HSC teachers. The class made their way to
Macquarie University together early in the morning and registration was
followed by splitting into pairs and beginning the first class for the day. During
the classes students attempted many past HSC papers and were provided with
useful suggestions that they could apply when answering questions in the
future. During lunch students enjoyed their pre-ordered bento boxes and took
the chance to further explore the university. Overall, the experience was
helpful to gain new tips and allowed students to understand the requirements
of the HSC examinations.

Winter Holiday Workshops
Year 12 Japanese Beginners Course
On 8 and 9 July, the Japanese Beginners class attended the Japanese workshop at Macquarie University.
Students learnt how to effectively answer HSC questions for reading, writing and listening, and practised
speaking in Japanese. It helped students to prepare for the Trial HSC Examinations and final HSC, as the teachers
gave students feedback on their responses. Our students enjoyed speaking with other students in Japanese and
had a very good experience in these two days.
Year 12 Japanese Extension Course
On 10 July, our Year 12 Japanese Extension class attended a HSC workshop by JTAN at Macquarie University.
On Thursday, 25 July, our senior Dance students showcased their HSC Major Work performances. The students have completed their Trial Examinations and are now preparing for the HSC Dance Practical Examination on 19-20 August– a few short weeks away. The HSC Dance students were excellent both in their individual performances and choreographed pieces. They thanked their junior performers for all their hard work over the year. Well done to all students and a special thanks goes to Mrs Elizabeth Farah, for her tremendous effort with preparing her HSC Dance students.

STUDENT VOICE PANEL DoE
On 23 July, Ms Dalamagas accompanied a group of
Year 10 Z Club members to a panel event on Student
Voice. This was held at the Department of Education
head office in Parramatta. Our students enjoyed
responding to questions about their education. They
met several Senior Executives of the Education
Department.
We would also like to remind you that, at Strathfield Girls High School we value and encourage your daughter’s attendance at school as it is essential in achieving her educational goals, as well as increasing her career and life options. Daily attendance ensures learning is a priority and enables your daughter to achieve success in the learning process. Attendance makes a difference to every girl’s educational success.
The importance of arriving on time is also a priority as it:
Þ ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day;
Þ helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine; and
Þ gives students time to greet their friends before class.
Please also remember that, following your daughter’s absence from school, you must ensure you provide us with a written explanation of the absence within 2 days, as per the requirements of the Department of Education NSW.
Attendance is of utmost importance to wellbeing and academic performance. Students are expected to
maintain a 90% attendance rate or they will be interviewed by the Principal, Ms Lyris.
Please be reminded that every absence, even lateness to school, must be explained on the first day your
daughter returns to school. If you anticipate a long absence, please contact the appropriate Deputy Principal to
inform them of the absence.
The SGHS Absentee note makes it easy for parents to explain their daughter’s absence. Students are able to
collect these from the front office or their Year Advisor.
Note also, that lateness will attract afternoon detentions.
ATTENDANCE
IMPORTANT NOTICE !!!
Parents are reminded of the school procedures for early leavers:
1. Parents are to send a signed permission note for the daughter to leave school early.
The full name of the student, date and time of leave must be included.
2. The student must see their or any available Deputy Principal before Roll Call to gain
permission to leave. Their note will be signed by the Deputy.
3. The student must then go to E 4 to the SASS Attendance Officer to have their leave pro-
cessed on our electronic data base.
4. An electronic printout will be issued to the student who has to show this to her teacher
at the time indicated on the printout. She is then permitted to leave class to meet
her parents in the foyer.
Encourage your daughter to follow the school expectations.
Please do not arrive at the school to collect your daughter unless in cases of emergency/
urgency.
NO STUDENT IS PERMITTED TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL WITHOUT SIGNING OUT.
