Olympics Unleashed

On Thursday the 1 August, Year 10 and 11 SRC leaders held special assemblies with their year groups to educate

and raise awareness on mental illnesses. We kicked things off with a short speech/introduction on mental

health and the importance of educating ourselves on this topic as it is crucial in today’s society.

We showed various videos on mental health, anxiety and depression to highlight the importance of smashing

the stigma and developing an understanding of how debilitating mental illnesses can be. It is important to

inform our peers on mental health and the importance in speaking up and seeking help when we need it. We

followed on with a fun and engaging kahoot on different types of mental illnesses and the symptoms associated

with them. Our peers were engaged and certainly enjoyed our kahoot game in delivering such important

information in a fun and engaging way. We awarded the first, second and third place winners with chocolates.

During assembly next week (Week 3), we will have our teacher eating competition take place with six teachers competing against one another. Round 1: Donut eating comp followed by a spicy noodles challenge for the two winners. All funds raised will go towards our reach out SGHS page : https://www.raisedough.com.au/fundraisers/sghssrc2019

We would also like to remind you that, at Strathfield Girls High School we value and encourage your daughter’s attendance at school as it is essential in achieving her educational goals, as well as increasing her career and life options. Daily attendance ensures learning is a priority and enables your daughter to achieve success in the learning process. Attendance makes a difference to every girl’s educational success.

The importance of arriving on time is also a priority as it:

Þ ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day;

Þ helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine; and

Þ gives students time to greet their friends before class.

Please also remember that, following your daughter’s absence from school, you must ensure you provide us with a written explanation of the absence within 2 days, as per the requirements of the Department of Education NSW.

Attendance is of utmost importance to wellbeing and academic performance. Students are expected to

maintain a 90% attendance rate or they will be interviewed by the Principal, Ms Lyris.

Please be reminded that every absence, even lateness to school, must be explained on the first day your

daughter returns to school. If you anticipate a long absence, please contact the appropriate Deputy Principal to

inform them of the absence.

The SGHS Absentee note makes it easy for parents to explain their daughter’s absence. Students are able to

collect these from the front office or their Year Advisor.

Note also, that lateness will attract afternoon detentions.

ATTENDANCE

IMPORTANT NOTICE !!!

Parents are reminded of the school procedures for early leavers:

1. Parents are to send a signed permission note for the daughter to leave school early.

The full name of the student, date and time of leave must be included.

2. The student must see their or any available Deputy Principal before Roll Call to gain

permission to leave. Their note will be signed by the Deputy.

3. The student must then go to E 4 to the SASS Attendance Officer to have their leave pro-

cessed on our electronic data base.

4. An electronic printout will be issued to the student who has to show this to her teacher

at the time indicated on the printout. She is then permitted to leave class to meet

her parents in the foyer.

Encourage your daughter to follow the school expectations.

Please do not arrive at the school to collect your daughter unless in cases of emergency/

urgency.

NO STUDENT IS PERMITTED TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL WITHOUT SIGNING OUT.

We wish our HSC students good luck in their HSC Trial Examinations which are to be held between 5 and 12 August 2019. Students have been working hard all year and Year 12 teachers are confident that students are well prepared for these examinations.

We remind Year 12 students to read their timetable carefully and ensure that they are at school at least 15 minutes before their scheduled examinations. They are also to check the timetable and notice board for their examination venues to avoid the stress of trying to find this information just before examinations.

Students must have their school ID cards, a clear plastic bottle of water and a plastic sleeve for their pens etc. All NESA approved calculators and equipment will be permitted in the examination room. MOBILE PHONES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE EXAMINATION ROOM.

Students have been reminded that they MUST CONTACT Ms Dalamagas if they are absent for an examination. They need to call the school and ask for Ms Dalamagas before the scheduled examination.
