Vice-President’S Report Diane
Happy Thanksgiving!
I am thankful for the speakers at the September meeting, not only is it an impressive
undertaking the Days for Girls groups are doing, but it made me clean out all the
flannelette in my stash. Attached to this newsletter is a Days for Girls pamphlet and
information on the Fabric Choices used to produce feminine hygiene kits.
Even with the colour and theme limitations for the fabric I was able to come up with a large bagful of
flannels. The rest of the flannel I cut into 5 inch squares and went nuts again making the accordion half-
square triangles.
There has been lots of buzz about the Days for Girls effort and the Circles, Circles workshop. I saw some
photos of the work produced and was sorry I couldn’t go. I hope we see lots of samples at the October
general meeting.
Speaking of which, I will be in Portugal so Maureen has valiantly offered to chair the meeting. No surprise
resolutions I hope. Weather is cooler and rain is coming so oil up the machines and get the hot toddy ready
for the mug rug beside the machine.
Have a great meeting, Diane M

HAVE QUILTS WILL TRAVEL Judy P/Linda F, Yoskyl, Anne R. and Jenifer
On September 25, seven members from our guild went to Sunrise Lynn Valley to do a Have Quilts Will Travel presentation. The 16 residents that attended included about six from the memory floor. Quickly, they all became engaged as we showed quilting blocks, samples of community quilts, a quilt of valour and our members quilting projects. Comments from the residents were “outstanding, fabulous, unbelievable and very artistic”. They were absolutely amazed and very appreciative. A big thank you to our volunteers for making this presentation such a success: Elaine A., Jenifer B., Linda F., Anne R., Judy S. and Yoskyl W. Judy S. has posted photos on our website.
COMMUNITY QUILTS Connie, Elaine A. and Linda F. Community Quilts Day has been postponed until next February.
CQA Eleanor
52 Blocks - please bring your blocks so we can all see how different they can be. You have all received the latest CQA email, so I won't repeat. Hopefully some of you are doing the postcard challenge and the Guild challenge. Don't forget to volunteer for Quilt Canada if you are going to be in Edmonton next year. Great way to see the show for free.
