Syllabus for Mid Term

SUBJECT: ENGLISH
Reading Skill: Comprehension (from the text books and unseen passages): Students should
be able to read texts and understand the meaning of lexical items and answer questions based
on it.
Aural (Listening) Skill: Should be able to listen to unfamiliar recording pieces and answer
questions based on it.
Speaking Skill:Students will be able to develop oral skills in presenting information clearly;
they organise and adapt their talk for different purposes and audiences. They will be able to
develop confidence and proficiency in reading aloud, performing drama and giving
presentations to an audience.
Language Skill: Students will be given various language based exercises to complete. They
will develop skills in using appropriate and creative vocabulary, and in making language
choices for effect. Learners will use grammar and punctuation accurately to shape their
writing for purpose and effect . Note the use of persuasive devices, words and phrases in
print and other media.
Factual writing: Unseen Composition or, Narrative Essay / Story Completion
Spelling: Students will be expected to rewrite Commonly Misspelt Words (unseen)
practiced in class as well as from thehandouts given. They should be able to understand ways
of creating opposites, e.g. un-, im- and comparatives, e.g. -er, -est. They should also
investigate spelling patterns for pluralization, e.g. -s, -es, -y/-ies, -f/-ves
Literature: Students will read about Myths and legends as well as other genres. Questions
will be set on: analyzing the characters, analyzing the plot, the theme, registering personal
interpretation of the characters and the theme explaining in reference to the context. They
will be familiar with some myths and legends and identify and differentiate between myths
and legends. Explore different types of genre.
Handouts will be given on spellings, figures of speech and on grammar topics as and
when required.
