President’s Message

Dear Tulsa Chapter Members, I can’t believe August is almost over. School is back in session and our September meeting is just around the corner. As I have stated previously, we plan to deliver some exciting programs that provide information and opportunity to enhance your ca-reer and develop you as a leader. I hope you are as excited as I am about the coming months, moving into fall, football season, and the Holidays that close out the year. Please clear your calendars for the upcoming IIA monthly meetings and events. My offic-ers have been working with their respective chair positions to ensure our Chapter is pre-pared to successfully advocate and promote the value that internal audit professionals add to their organizations. We will be providing comprehensive professional educational and development opportunities, bringing you information and other professional practice guidance, and of course, encouraging the IIA certification programs. We want to be a resource for materials and ideas that promote and enhance membership knowledge of internal auditing and its appropriate role in control, risk management, and governance. As you probably all know, the IIA motto “Progress Through Sharing” means we need your help. We need your participation and willingness to share best practices, and other valua-ble information and experiences. Our Chapter goals for the coming year are to continue our tradition of obtaining the Platinum status by achieving at least 1,560 CAP points. As a Chapter, the IIA measures our success by the CAP points we achieve. Points are given for meeting and seminar attendance, and many other Chapter and professional accomplish-ments by our membership. This year we plan on having more emphasis in our Academic relations. We are planning some activities on campus at our local Universities to advocate the internal audit profession. In addition, we hope to grow our membership from currently around 370 to a record high of 400. Our overall participation at Chapter meetings has been very high averaging nearly 90 attendees. My goal is to up the average attendance to a number closer to 100. As previously stated, to meet these goals, we will need your assistance to promote our meetings and encourage others to attend and participate. I look forward to seeing you in September. Happy Labor Day! Kip 2013-2014 President

General Meeting Announcement—September

“How do we measure up?”

One of the best things about the internal audit profession is the availability of

information, tools & techniques, methodologies, and best practices to help us

carry out our responsibilities. There are countless conferences, webinars, and

white papers that provide us with guidance and assist us in developing our inter-

nal audit practice.

Even with all this direction and support, the question still arises – how do we

really compare to our peers? How does our group measure up against what oth-

er audit groups are doing in our market? In our industry? One way to truly as-

sess where your group is at, and identify opportunities for improvement, is

benchmarking.

We will walk through the Internal Audit Capability Continuum that was devel-

oped by a group of Chief Audit Executives (CAE). We will then conduct a live

benchmarking exercise with the members of the Tulsa IIA Chapter to see where

you lie on the Continuum. Everyone with a smartphone or blackberry can partic-

ipate in the live benchmarking exercise.

By objectively rating yourself based on agreed upon criteria, not only do you iden-tify where you lie on the Continuum compared to your peers, but you also identify the areas where improvement opportunities exist.
