Intently Focused on
Student Achievement A Message from the Board of
Education elcome to a new year of
learning together in
Chinook’s Edge School Division!
Our Board is very proud to be part
of the team of devoted and caring
professionals in this division,
where everyone is intently focused
on student achievement.
Every teacher and staff
member, across all grades and
subject areas, is equally invested in
the eventual outcome of seeing
each of our students complete high
school. As our students graduate
with the confidence to pursue post-
secondary opportunities,
Chinook’s Edge staff share the
responsibility and pride from
kindergarten staff right through to
diploma teachers.
Our dedicated staff are creating
learning environments that ensure
every child succeeds, and we
believe a key piece of evidence of
our efforts all along the way is the
number of our students who
graduate and transition into post-
secondary opportunities. We know
this foundation of quality learning
will allow our students to continue
to achieve higher levels of success
throughout their lifetime.
With the support of the Board
and our Superintendent, our teams
of professionals continue to
challenge, encourage and believe
in each one of our students every
single day. We wish everyone an
exciting year of learning in
Chinook’s Edge, where students
come first!

Gowns for Grads Gala THURSDAY, October 27
th, 2016
7:00 pm at the TransCanada Theatre, Olds High School
This will be our second annual GOWNS FOR GRADS gala. The event is designed to
provide a green, lower cost option for potential grads and their families. This program is the brainchild of Karen Grudeski. Mrs. G started the program years ago
when she saw a need for some students who were having difficulty affording the formal wear needed to participate in the graduation ceremonies. Since then, the program has evolved! She now has over 100 beautiful dresses as well as some suits and outfits that would be suitable for family members wanting to attend the ceremonies. Gowns are either donated or consigned and are then modeled and offered for sale to students who are interested in the “green option” or who simply want to save some money on the cost of graduation. All dresses are professionally cleaned and repaired (if needed) before the gala. They are being offered at either a consigner’s set price or at a cost of $100 to $200. Many of the gowns were originally priced at well over $500.
The price that is charged to students is used to cover the cost of storage for the gowns, the cost of cleaning and the cost of possible alterations. A small fund is also set up from the sale of gowns to cover the cost of suit rentals for male graduates requiring some financial assistance. The Olds High School Interact club undertakes annual fundraising activities to help offer support to this valuable program as well.
This year, the gala will again be hosted from the TransCanada Theatre in Olds. The event is on Thursday, October 27 and on Friday, October 28 – which is a day off school – Karen Grudeski has agreed to organize some volunteers to be on hand and to have the gowns available for interested girls to come in and try on dresses they liked.
Please join us at the theatre on October 27 to see the dresses, enjoy the fashion show and look over the great tables of jewelry and
other items for sale in lobby
If you have questions or would like to donate or consign a dress, please contact either
Karen Grudeski at 403-335-4568 Or
Tane Skotheim at 403-586-8277

Have you heard the news? Delburne Centralized School has been adopted for the Adopt a School Program!! What is it? Each fall, through the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation every Chapters, Indigo, or Coles book store across Canada picks a local high-needs elementary school to help fundraise for their library. How does it help us? The Association of Canadian Publishers recommends that a ‘healthy’ library requires a minimum budget of $30 every year per child. Right now we are sitting at about $13 per child. With the Adopt a School program all the money raised will go towards our library to buy new books and we get a 30% discount if we use the money to buy books from the store. How can you help? The store that has adopted us is Coles located in the Parkland Mall in Red Deer. Fundraising starts on September 18th and goes till October 9th. You can either make a donation in store or you can donate online. To donate online, go to the adoptaschool.indigo.ca webpage and click sign up in the top right hand corner. You can sign up either with your email or with facebook, then you can Adopt our school on the site. After creating your online account you will be able to make a donation online. There are a couple of new online programs this year to help with fundraising: Book Bonus - Donate today and your support will go even further. Give 2 books to a participating school of your choice and the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation will add an extra book to your donation. For every 2 books you give, the school gets a 3rd book free! Tell a Story, Give a Story! - Select a question and share your story to support a participating school of your choice for FREE. For every featured story, the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation will donate a book to support the school’s library! Elementary students will be helping out by creating bookmarks to hand out to customers who donate in store. As well, one lucky class will be chosen for a field trip to Coles where they will be treated to a tour of the store and be read to by a staff member as well as other fun activities. Please help spread the word about this fantastic fundraiser with your family and friends. All money raised goes directly into purchasing new books for our school library. Thank you for your support!
