SENIOR YEAR CHECKLIST 2014-2015 September Attend the CCO Common App Workshop on Registration Day, Tuesday, September 2. Please remember to bring your signed transcript release forms, your Common Application Username and Password, and your laptop. Hand in your Common Application draft (including your personal essay), Naviance College Grid, and Summer Update Form to your counselor by Monday, September 8. Schedule an appointment to review these materials together. Check commonapp.org and college websites regarding any supplemental essays and/or materials that may be required for admission and begin to prepare drafts. Edit your Common Application personal statement. Ask your college counselor and an English teacher to provide feedback. Pay close attention to standardized test registration deadlines. Sit for the SAT Reasoning/ Subject Tests, and/or ACT this fall, if appropriate. Athletes: Speak to Mr. Raper, CCO Athletic Liaison, and your college counselor about your admission process, especially if you have been in contact with a coach this past summer and are being actively recruited. Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Visual and Performing Artists: Contact Mr. Cuneo, CCO Arts Liaison, to discuss the contents of your art portfolio or how to best prepare for an upcoming audition. Stay in touch with him throughout the fall.   • If your family is planning to apply for financial aid, visit the CSS Profile website at profileonline.collegeboard.com and register for fall 2015/spring 2016, if necessary. Since not all schools require the CSS Profile, check this website carefully for individual school requirements and deadlines.

    October

    Attend information sessions with college admission officers during their fall visits to MKA. Please check the schedule frequently in Naviance and plan accordingly. Meet only with representatives from those schools in which you have genuine interest.

    NOTE: You must request permission from your teacher at least 48 hours in advance to miss class time and attend an information session with an admission officer. Sign up under The Colleges tab in Naviance.

    Get off to a strong start and do your best work in each of your classes!

    Continue working on your college applications and meeting with your college counselor. Keep her informed of your college process at all times!

    Follow up with thank you notes to those teachers who wrote your college recommendation letters.

    Visit colleges on available weekends and holidays. If you must miss school for a college visit, you are required to obtain and complete an Excused Absence form from Mrs. Califano at least 72 hours prior to your departure.

    Sit for the October 11 SAT Reasoning/Subject Tests and/or October 25 ACT, if appropriate. REMEMBER: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEND YOUR SCORES TO COLLEGES!!

    Continue to edit your Common Application Essay. Work on supplemental essays, if applicable. Show your written drafts to your college counselor and an English teacher. If you are applying early decision/early action, plan ahead and finalize your essays well before the November 1 or November 15 deadlines.

    Submit applications to those colleges with Rolling Admission policies in advance of priority deadlines. Remember to proofread carefully before you hit the 'Send' button. Check that you have successfully submitted all parts of your application. Keep a printed copy for your records.

    Keep up your grades! Do your best work in each of your classes.

    Submit your Early Decision/Early Action applications prior to the appropriate deadlines. Remember to proofread carefully before you hit the 'Send' button. Make sure to sign the ED Agreement electronically. Check that you have successfully submitted all parts of your application. Keep a printed copy for your records.

    Do your best work as fall mid-semester grades will be sent, without exception, in early November to those schools where you have an application pending.

    Continue working on your college applications and meeting with your college counselor. Keep her informed of your college process at all times!

    Submit your Regular Decision and Early Decision II applications prior to the appropriate deadlines. Remember to proofread carefully before you hit the 'Send' button. Check that you have successfully submitted all parts of your application. Keep a printed copy for your records.

    Sit for the January 24, 2015 SAT Reasoning/Subject Tests, if appropriate. REMEMBER: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEND YOUR SCORES TO COLLEGES!!

    Access the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov beginning January 1, 2015.

    Pay close attention to financial aid deadlines for those colleges to which you are applying. Complete and submit the FAFSA, and CSS Profile, if necessary, preferably by February 1, 2015.

    Continue to do well in your academic classes. Mid-year grades will be sent to colleges in early February.

    Wait patiently (right!) for college admission decisions. Notify your college counselor and teachers who wrote your recommendation letters of your admission decisions.

    Visit or revisit colleges to determine your final choice. Once you make a decision and submit a deposit on or before May 1, 2015, notify other college admission offices via email to gratefully decline their offer.

    Inform your college counselor and teachers who wrote your recommendations of your final college choice.

    Continue to do well in your academic classes. College admission officers will review your final transcript for any inconsistencies with your previous academic record. Second semester/final grades may also be important for waitlist candidates.

    If you wish to pursue admission at your waitlist colleges, meet with your college counselor to create a plan. Contact admission officers in writing to express your interest in gaining admission.

    If you have not already done so, submit a deposit to ONE college by no later than May 1, 2015, to confirm your intention to enroll. Notify other college admission offices via email to gratefully decline their offer.

    Maintain contact with admission officers at your waitlist schools and continue to express your interest in gaining admission.

    Enjoy and successfully complete your May Term experience!

    Exhale! Graduate! Congratulations, you did it!! The CCO sends out your final transcript by the end of the month to the college you will attend.
