ABOUT JINDAL SAW LTD. Jindal group is found by Late. Shri

O.P.JINDAL in 1984. It is one of the largest producers of SAW

pipes, which is widely used in the energy sector for the transportation of oil & gas.

It also manufacturing large diameter SAW pipes and spiral pipes and S.S seamless pipes and tubes used for industrial applications; and Ductile iron (DI) pipes for water and sewage transportation.

Maintenance. Maintenance is a set of organised

activities that are carried out in order to keep an item in its best operational condition with minimum cost acquired.

In Jindal there is a two type of maintenance which is Preventive Maintenance & Break down Maintenance.

Page 9: Seminar on JIndal Training

Preventive Maintenance. It is a set of activities that are performed

on plant equipment, machinery, and systems before the occurrence of a failure in order to protect them and to prevent their operating conditions.

Page 10: Seminar on JIndal Training

Types of Preventive Maintenance.

Routine maintenance Running Maintenance Opportunity Maintenance Shut down Preventive Maintenance

Page 11: Seminar on JIndal Training

Break down Maintenance. It is performed after the occurrence of an advanced

considered failure for which advanced provision has been made in the form of repair method, spares, materials, labour and equipment.

Disadvantages: Its activities are expensive in terms of both direct and

indirect cost. Using this type of maintenance, the occurrence of a

failure in a component can cause failures in other components in the same equipment, which leads to low production availability.

Its activities are very difficult to plan and schedule in advance.

INDUCTION FURNACE.

Page 13: Seminar on JIndal Training

An induction furnace is an electrical furnace in which the heat is applied by induction heating of metal.

The advantage of the induction furnace is a clean, energy-efficient and well-controllable compare to other.

Induction furnace function is to maintain the temperature of molten metal coming from blast furnace.

In molten metal that is coming from BF required carbon percentage is minimum 3.70%, but it is higher than 4.5-5.0% so in induction furnace by adding silicon and scrap it reduce.

Induction furnace at temp 1400-1450 C

MAGNESIUM TREATMENT In 1949, a process was invented by which

flaky graphite in cast iron could be change to nodular graphite by adding little magnesium in molten metal.

The nodular graphite helps to maintain the continuity of iron matrix provide excellent properties of flexibility, ductility, and impact resistance.

CENTRIFUGAL CASTING. Centrifugal casting

or rotocasting is a casting techniques that is typically used to cast thin walled cylinders.

ANNEALING PROCESS Annealing is a heat treatment process where

in a material is altered, causing change in its properties such as hardness and ductility.

It is a process that produces condition by heating to above critical temperature, maintain a suitable temperature, and then cooling.

Annealing is used to induce to ductility, soften material relive internal stresses, and refine the structure by making it homogenous, and improve cold working properties.

ZINK COATING. A spray process in

which metallic zinc material is heated to a molten state and projected in minute droplets by spray guns on to the pipe surface applies metallic zinc coating. The zinc coating machine is capable of coating in hot or cold state.

HYDRO PRESSURE TESTING M/C. Each pipe is tested

at the specified test pressure for period to ensure trouble free service of pipes.

Leakage & pressure carrying capacity of the pipe is finding out by this testing.

Page 21: Seminar on JIndal Training

CEMENT LINING.

Page 22: Seminar on JIndal Training

The Ductile Iron pipes are internally lined with cement mortar by centrifugal process which gives uniform thickness, higher compaction and smoother internal surface providing higher ‘C’ value.

Pipe is rotating about 4 to 5 minute because of this rotation cement lining is completed inside the pipe.

Thickness of cement lining is about 2 to 4 mm.

Cement lining reduces the corrosion and erosion of the pipe and increase the life of the pipe.

Page 23: Seminar on JIndal Training

QUERING Steam curing provides better strength

to cement mortar lining and minimizes formation of cracks in the lining. This ensures longer life of  the lining.

Temp. Inside the cultivation furnace is about 50 c to 60 c.

Page 24: Seminar on JIndal Training

BITUMINOUS COATING. A host of  other internal

and external coatings are offered to customers to meet their specific requirements.

Bituminous paint is applied by spraying process which ensures uniform thickness through out coating on the pipe surface.

Page 25: Seminar on JIndal Training

FINAL PRODUCT. After the pipe is

checking by the quality department they mark a quality symbol on the pipe then pipe then pipe is going for Dispatch.
