West Country based logistics com-pany Gregory Distribution is usingParagon routing and schedulingsoftware to help it win new busi-ness. The new system uses Paragon’sIntegrated Fleets route planningsoftware, with HERE (formerlyNAVTEQ) street level mappingand INRIX-based road speed data toextend its functionality and accuracy.Gregory Distribution uses the systemstrategically for modelling routesacross its business, which spans awide range of industry sectors andsees vehicles transporting groceryproducts, milk, raw materials, consumer goods and industrial itemsthroughout the UK and into Europe.“Following a thorough and com-

Quality Assurance Standard(DQAS) as a baseline, we set out tobenchmark criteria that SDGmembers must achieve so they candeliver clearly defined qualitystandards to end-user companies.

To kick start the audit process in2013, the SDG recruited and part-nered with external quality assurancecompany, QCS International to auditall 30 or so SDG members everythree years. Last year’s pilot schemeproved successful and the pro-gramme is on target to audit everySDG company before May. An SDG company is assessed by

QCS International in two key areas; itsprocess control of actual projects onthe ground and proof of controlledadministration. Companies mustachieve 60% or above to pass andthose achieving 90%+ are awarded theHighly Commended status. A pre-assessment of the member’s qualitymanual is followed by an on-site audit. So what if a member doesn’t make

the grade? SEMA believes in a processof continual improvement andalthough it’s not happened to amember yet, should an SDG be seen tobe failing, the QCS-led audit will helpa member to produce a satisfactoryimprovement plan to meet the DQASstandards. If when re-audited fourmonths later, the company still fails tomeasure up, then the membership is

declined, and to re-join, they mustimprove and re-apply.In every industry, rogue practices

are likely to exist. The SDG audittakes away that element of risk and setsits members apart from the rank and file. Each audit certificate is proof to the cus-tomer that their new storage systems willbe correctly designed using new prod-ucts, are installed by trained and qualifiedteams to meet HSE standards and thatthe SDG member is correctly insured.Log on to sema.org.uk/sdg and watch

a short video on the benefits of choosingan SDG member. A list of regionalmembers can also be found. Whenbuying storage systems, ask to see theSDG member’s audit certificate. If you’dlike to find out more about becominga member, call the SEMA office on0121 601 6359 or visit sema.org.uk
