This Sunday we are drawn to reflect on choices. Before the beginning of all

things, God chose us in Christ to be part of the unfolding of his blessing of crea-

tion and humanity.

In the First Reading, Amos the shepherd tells of how he was not from any of the

‘brotherhood of prophets’, yet it was he who was chosen to move beyond tend-

ing trees and sheep to tending the people of Israel.

The Psalm is a song of God’s rich blessings. It trusts in the love and tenderness of

God to bring forth faithfulness, justice and peace.

The Second Reading is taken from the start of the letter to the Ephesians. It is a

poetic call for the Christian community to bless God, the source of all blessings.

Christ is the head and the heart of the community. We are chosen in Christ! We

are alive within and through Christ. It is Christ who unites us to each other and

to all of creation.

It is through being blessed in this knowledge that we can set out into the world

to spread the Good News. In the Gospel, Jesus sends out the twelve he has cho-

sen, to proclaim his message, respond to the needs of the people, and to offer

his healing. He instructs the disciples to take next to nothing for their journey.

As we each go out into the world this week, may the way that we live our lives

be an act of praise. Let us remember that we are chosen, that we are not alone,

and that we can draw strength from knowing we are one with each other, sisters

and brothers in Christ. We may be rich or poor materially, but in Christ we have

everything. from: http://australiancatholics.com.au

Child Safety Meeting Included in Seasons recently was a letter inviting all

parishioners to an important meeting this

Wednesday 18th July at 7.30pm in the Church

regarding our Parish responsibility for Child Safety

and the policies and procedures that need to be im-

plemented. Extra copies are available in the Church

foyer.

Baptisms

These are held on the 1st & 3rd Sundays of each month at 11:15 am or at any of the Par-

ish Masses on the 2nd, 4th or 5th Sundays.

A compulsory preparation night for parents takes place on the first Tuesday of each

month in the Parish Community Centre at 7:30 pm. Children to be baptised, and their families, are then invit-

ed to a Welcome Mass prior to Baptism where they are introduced to the Parish Community and welcomed

by them. In order for this to happen, preparation needs to begin at least 4-6 weeks before the Baptism, with

a call to confirm parents’ attendance at the Preparation Night. When children of school age are to be baptised

an extended preparation time is required.

It is important to remember that Baptism is about the initiation of a child into a community of Faith or a com-

munity of Disciples. There is no such thing as a ‘private’ Baptism... it is something done by the whole Church.
