Young Leaders Day: Our four school leaders and I
are very excited about the upcoming Young Leader’s
Day at the Sydney Entertainment Centre (now known
as Qantas Credit Union Arena) this coming Monday, 31
March. There will be up to 6000 school leaders there
from schools all over Australia. Guest speakers include
Ita Buttrose, the 2013 Australian of the Year, former
Foreign Minister and NSW Premier Bob Carr, best selling
author, Andy Griffiths and Mike Martin, Executive
director of the Halogen Foundation. Check next week’s

Meeting with Teachers: From time to time parents
need to talk with classroom teachers regarding their
child and how they are developing in class. Our
teachers are only too happy for this to happen. It is
important, however, that parents make contact with the
school or teacher before hand so an appropriate time
can be organised. Turning up and expecting an
Student Welfare and Discipline: Today I spoke with Stage Three about
behaviour expectations and how important positive role modelling is, particularly
when you hold a position of responsibility. We discussed how our fun shouldn’t be
at the expense of another and we needed to be able to read the signs and be
aware to change our behaviour if it is having a negative response on someone
else. Asking for help or seeking help from a teacher is essential if they feel
overwhelmed or a situation is getting out of control. No student has the right to
belittle or tease another student because they have asked a teacher for help. This
was made really clear during our talk because we know bottling up emotions or
closing down and not talking about things can become a habit
w h i c h l e a d s t o a n x i e t y a n d d e p r e s s i o n l a t e r o n .
Lastly we shared and talked about behaviours and their consequences from our
welfare policy. In particular the consequence which can occur from continued
misbehaviour or a serious incident. This can result in that student being
suspended from his or her position of responsibility for a period of time while
the behaviour is monitored. These positions include school leaders, ministers,
bus monitors, house captains or their position on a school sporting team.

Sport Report: Seaham Public School students have again this week had a very
busy schedule. Congratulations to Georgia Fuhrer-Andrews, Jordan Murphy and
Ewan Mowbray who were successful in the zone soccer trials for both girls and
boys respectively. They will now move onto the hunter regional trials.
Congratulations also to our boys cricket team and boys softball team on their
wins for this week.
Softball Report: Yesterday Seaham School’s softball team went over to
Clarence Town to play softball. The opposition team was Clarence Town. Both
teams played well. It was a hard game but luckily our team did well and we
won with the score of 25-8. It was fun but hilarious when one of our team
members run off to outfield because he didn’t see the base. When we finished
we all congratulated the opposing team. Thank you once again to Ms Sciberras
and Ms Meehan for their coaching expertise. Thank you also to Miss Lowcock
for her support on the day. By Arion Zambelis and Luke Hannaway.
Boys Cricket Team: On Tuesday the boys cricket team travelled to Dungog to
compete in the PSSA knockout game. We kept Dungog down to 18 runs and
got the runs in 5 overs. By Andrew Akerman & Alex Lidbury
Zone Soccer Trials: Last Thursday we (Jordan & Ewan) went to the boys zone
soccer trials. There were 48 boys. We were lucky enough to get in the last 14.
In a few weeks time we will both go to the regional trials. By Jordan Murphy
& Ewan Mowbray
Girls Soccer Trials: Last Thursday I went to the girls zone soccer trials. 20 girls
attended and 6 got selected to go the hunter trials on 4 April. I was lucky
enough to get selected to go and I am looking forward to it.

Girls Netball Training: Thank you to Kerri McCaw who has generously
volunteered her time to coach our girls netball team in readiness for the PSSA
competition. Thank you Kerri.
