SCOTTISH SALARIED DENTISTS COMMITTEE 16 February 2016 Report 1. KEY ITEMS DISCUSSED, INCLUDING DECISIONS AND ACTIONS 1.1 The Scottish Salaried Dentists Committee (SSDC) met on 16 February 2016 at the BDA Scottish office in Stirling. 2. Meeting with the Scottish Association of Clinical Dental Directors (SACDD) SSDC and the BDA met for the second time with representatives from SACDD on the morning of 16 February 2016 at the BDA Scotland office to further discuss and share concerns affecting the PDS in Scotland. The main topics for discussion included the vision for the PDS going forward, funding and protecting PDS services, the use of short term contracts within the PDS the BDA Strategy and the SSDC draft policy document. 2. Public Dental Service The Chair attended a meeting of the Project Implementation Group on 10 February 2016 on the proposed re-balancing of public dental services and independent dental practice provision in NHS Highland. As part of the re-balancing process, PDS dentists will be made aware of leasing opportunites to provide general dental services in Portree and Culloden dental clinics. Should PDS dentists be interested in this opportunity, they should seek advice from the BDA and /or instruct an experienced dental accountant or financial adviser for further advice. 3. Scottish Joint Negotiating Forum (SJNF) The last meeting of SJNF due to have been held on 22 December 2015 was postponed due to the fact that Scottish Government sought to put forward to the committee a proposed new Terms of Reference for the SJNF without sufficient time to enable a full discussion with SSDC members. There was also concern that the proposal would effect a narrowing of the original SJNF remit. SSDC agreed not to accept the proposed new remit. The next meeting of SJNF would be held on 21 March 2016. 4. SSDC Policy Document The final draft of the SSDC Policy Document was discussed at the SSDC/SACDD meeting earlier that day. Representatives from SACDD had provided some useful comments on the draft document which the BDA would consider including in the final version of the document.
