President's Update

Speaking of L.M Montgomery, ACA 2021 will be 30 June – 3 July, 2021 at the DeltaHotels Prince Edward by Marriott in Charlottetown, PEI. The ACA Executive Director and President attended a Library and ArchivesCanada Stakeholders’ Forum in Toronto on January 28.The ACA Executive Director, President, and Director-at Large attended meetingof the Steering Committee on Canada’s Archives (SCCA) meeting on January28. The SCCA is now being chaired by the Chair of the Canadian Council ofArchives.

Governance Update

ACA Bylaws: The ACA Governance Committee has been focused on review andrenewal of the ACA’s bylaw. The new bylaw will accomplish several tasks:

· Clarify and codify existing practices· Remove outdated language and policy provisions· Better align with model bylaw recommended by the Canadian Not-For-Profit Act· Allow for full participation of members through virtual meetings and online voting· Provide greater benefits to institutional members

We aim to present the new bylaw to members in April and then put it to a vote in June.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Update on the progress of the ACA's Strategic Plan: Forward Together

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force is upand running! See here for details about the activities of

the Task Force and its membership.

Elections

The ACA is looking for new leaders. In the next fewweeks, there will be a call for nominations for theBoard positions of President, Treasurer, and twoDirectors-at-Large.

The incumbents will serve a two-year term from 1January 2021 to 31 December 2022. Consider servingon the ACA Board. It is a tremendously rewardingexperience.

Head, University of Manitoba Archives and SpecialCollections: Heather Bidzinski

We are happy to announce that Heather Bidzinski is thenew Head, University of Manitoba Archives & SpecialCollections beginning February 16, 2020.

Heather is currently employed at the Canadian Museumfor Human Rights where she works as Head ofCollections. She holds a Master of Arts degree inArchival Studies and a second Master of Arts degree inEthnomusicology from the University of Manitoba. Heather has presented widely on archives in all formatsat venues such as the ABC Copyright Conference andthe Association of Canadian Archivists Conference andis currently working on a research project ondeconstructing colonial frameworks in museumpractice.

'All Shook Up'

From ACA President, Loryl MacDonald: "I am verypleased to report that ACA and Society of AmericaArchivists has co-published ‘All Shook Up’: TheArchival Legacy of Terry Cook, edited by TomNesmith, Joan Schwartz, and Greg Bak. We hope tolaunch the book at the ACA 2020 Welcome Receptionin Vancouver."

There will also be a book launch at Congress inLondon, Ontario on 2 June.

One year ago, the ACA moved to a new website and membership managementsystem. We continue to work to improve this system and to leverage the technology toimprove communications. Unfortunately, recently a mass email was sent to IndividualMembers intended for our Institutional Members. Thank you for those who let usknow. We have identified the issue within our system and will work to avoid this errorin future. The ACA has an annual membership and we are also working to synchronizeyour join date and renewal date. Please contact the office with any questions orconcerns.
