In association with

The DAE-BRNS sponsored eighth biennial symposium on“Emerging Trends in Separation Science and Technology (SESTEC-2018)” is being organized by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai in association with the Association of Separation Scientists and Technologists (ASSET) and the Department of Chemistry, BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus, Goa. This symposium is fully sponsored by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). It will be held during May 23-26, 2018 at the Department of Chemistry, BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus, Zuarinagar, Goa, India. The objective of SESTEC-2018 is to provide a forum to scientists and engineers to discuss the recent advances in the area of separation science and technology relevant to the nuclear fuel cycle activities such as separation of actinides, lanthanides and fission products and their speciation. The symposium also covers recent developments in membrane technology, separation techniques and waste water remediation. The symposium will be extremely useful, especially to the young researchers, as it will be attended by eminent scientists and engineers from National Laboratories, Universities and Research Institutes from India and abroad and will provide a platform for effective interaction among those engaged in research in the area of separation science and technology.

SESTEC-2018

A. Separations in nuclear fuel cycleB. Membrane science and technologyC. Treatment of industrial effluentsD. Chromatography and pyrochemical separationsE. Computational chemistry in separation scienceF. Radiochemical separationsG. Green separationsH. Speciation studies

The four day symposium will bring together a panel ofhighly-accomplished experts in the field of separationscience and technology. The scientific programme of thesymposium will include Invited Talks by eminent scientistsfrom India and Overseas. The invited talks will encompassbasic studies and applications and will address topics ofnovel issues related to separation science and technology. Contributed papers will be presented in bothOral and Poster sessions. Further, the best Oral and Poster presentations will be selected for the awards. There will be a special session on “Speciation of radionuclides in the environment” which is highly relevant to the waste management programme. Abstract of the contributed papers will be peer reviewed prior to their inclusion in the symposium proceedings. Limited numbers of papers will be selected for publication in reputed journals, namely,“Separation Science and Technology” (papers dealing with general separations) and “Radiochimical Acta” (papers dealing with radioactive elements). The authors will be intimated in advance about the selection of their contributions for journal publication.

SCOPE

THE VENUETHE VENUEThe symposium will be held at the Department of Chemistry, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus, Goa. BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus is one of the four campuses of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, a well-known Indian Institute for higher education. BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus was commissioned in August 2004. Nesting in the lap of verdant hills, overlooking the Zuari River, the Campus is spread over an area of 180 acres. The location of campus is unique in therespect of scenic beauty and panoramic view of picturesque surrounding encompassing Zuari River, hillocks, waterways, forests and landscape. Being an Institute of excellence in Sciences and Technology, the primary motive of the university is to train young men and women able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information. Being fully residential, the university hosts about 3000 students and ~200 staffs in the campus.

ABOUT THEDEPARTMENT

ABOUT THEDEPARTMENTThe department is just over a decade old, but is well know nationally and internationally for its excellence in bothacademic and research activities.
