** Celebration Assemblies Every Friday Morning **

KS1 9.10am KS2 8.50am

Years 5 and 6 were lucky enough to visit the former

Northallerton Prison last week and were treated to a very informative tour by Toby of

York Archaeological Society. As well as finding out all about the

possibly disproportionate punishments meted out for some

comparatively minor misdemeanours in the past, the

children also found themselves...in a cell!

The week started with a visit from Yaz who spoke to all pupils in assembly about the Islamic faith and did a number of workshops with KS2 pupils who explored Islamic patterns and Henna designs. Mrs Pringle had the opportunity to wear a niqab and hijab which are worn by some Muslim women in public areas. Pupils and staff enjoyed her visit and learnt lots about the Muslim faith. Her visit built on the Alverton values we have in school of mutual respect.

It was fantastic to welcome Donetta from 'All Saints' Church in Northallerton to school this week to present the winner of the school mural competition with their prize.

Vicky in Y6 followed up her success at designing a Tesco carrier bag by being chosen as the school winner. Vicky is having her design displayed on the side of the church with winners

from other schools in Northallerton. Vicky was also presented with a gift voucher for the art shop for all her hard work!

It would be great for as many people as possible to visit the church and look at the design.

I also spent time with the school Prime Minister this week and Jaycee outlined his plans to reward hardworking pupils in school - watch this space!!

Mrs Bell brought Ebony to see me in my office yesterday and I enjoyed reading her

writing! I'm proud of how all our Y1 pupils have started the year and impressed with the writing they have produced.

A few parents have already approached me about being part of the parents focus group - I hope to have a meeting at the end of next week please see me if you are interested.

And finally it's always great to see pupils achieving out of school as we have many talented

pupils! Unfortunately my son and his under 10 football team arrived in Northallerton on Sunday and were very well beaten by a Northallerton FC team containing Lyle in Y5. Needless to say he had an outstanding game and Northallerton won

14 - 0! With Sunderland not doing well I have a feeling it could be a long season! Good luck to Northallerton who were a friendly, well run club and have a great set up for encouraging children to get involved in football.

What’s On at KS2!

We have a lot of extra curricular clubs happening at KS2 at the moment:

Monday after school - TAG RUGBY

Tuesday after school - DANCE

Tuesday afternoons - GUITAR

Wednesday after school - GYMNASTICS

Wednesday after school - HOMEWORK CLUB

Thursday after school - CODE CLUB

Thursday after school - ART CLUB (YR 3/4 ONLY)

Please speak to the office if your child is interested in joining any of these!
