20 June 2014 School Newsletter Good morning, You won’t be surprised to hear it has been a busy week, as always, at Pyrford! On Monday we were joined by contractors who will bid for the new school rebuild. They visited the site and heard from the chair of governors and the Educaon Funding Agency. It was a good opportunity for contractors to see what was really important to us as a school. The next stage is that contractors will submit bids and plans and the EFA will narrow that down to two contractors before finally deciding which one to work with. We are looking forward to finally seeing some concrete drawings! The only downside for me was the menon of their willingness to have weekly meengs starng on the 7 th July for the enrety of the summer! Yesterday Year 2 enjoyed a great day out at the Brighton Sealife Centre and you can read more and see some of their photos further on in the newsleer. Next week Year 6 are heading off on residenal. My thanks in advance to the staff accompanying the children for the week; they do this at Pyrford off their own back (some arm twisng somemes!) and the children have a fantasc me away on residenal. We shall look forward to hearing all about their ad- ventures on their return. Tomorrow it is the summer fayre so a quick reminder that FS and KS1 children will be performing in the arena and need to arrive by 12 mid-day dressed in bright coloured clothes. I have seen the children pracsing and know how excited they are. Well done this week to our Year 1 pupils who have all undertaken the naonal phonics screening test. Children have done fantascally well and the school is really starng to see the fruion of our phonics work which we introduced al- most two years ago. I will report back on assessment scores once all the data has been validated by the DfE. The Chernobyl children will be arriving on Sunday evening and we look forward to welcoming them into school over the coming weeks. Next week is our Book Fayre - please pop in aſter school to have a look at the books. Any money raised is ploughed straight back into books for the children in the school. 20 June 2014 School Newsletter

Good morning, You won’t be surprised to hear it has been a busy week, as always, at Pyrford! On Monday

we were joined by contractors who will bid for the new school rebuild. They visited the site

and heard from the chair of governors and the Education Funding Agency. It was a good

opportunity for contractors to see what was really important to us as a school. The next

stage is that contractors will submit bids and plans and the EFA will narrow that down to

two contractors before finally deciding which one to work with. We are looking forward to

finally seeing some concrete drawings! The only downside for me was the

mention of their willingness to have weekly meetings starting on the 7th July for

the entirety of the summer! Yesterday Year 2 enjoyed a great day out at the Brighton Sealife Centre and

you can read more and see some of their photos further on in the newsletter. Next week Year 6 are heading off on residential. My thanks in advance to the

staff accompanying the children for the week; they do this at Pyrford off their

own back (some arm twisting sometimes!) and the children have a fantastic

time away on residential. We shall look forward to hearing all about their ad-

ventures on their return. Tomorrow it is the summer fayre so a quick reminder that FS and KS1 children

will be performing in the arena and need to arrive by 12 mid-day dressed in

bright coloured clothes. I have seen the children practising and know how excited they are. Well done this week to our Year 1 pupils who have all undertaken the national phonics

screening test. Children have done fantastically well and the school is really starting to see

the fruition of our phonics work which we introduced al-

most two years ago. I will report back on assessment

scores once all the data has been validated by the DfE. The Chernobyl children will be arriving on Sunday evening

and we look forward to welcoming them into school over

the coming weeks.

Next week is our Book Fayre - please pop in after school to

have a look at the books. Any money raised is ploughed

straight back into books for the children in the school.

With best wishes Kathryn Krynicki

Brighton Beauties! Yesterday, in lovely weather and to support our Seaside Holiday Topic, Year 2 enjoyed a

fabulous day promenading along the pier at Brighton and watching the sea creatures at

the Sea Life Centre. Lunch on the beach was a definite highlight, although the pesky

seagulls were on the look out for lunch! Well done Year 2 for being such well-behaved

seaside visitors and a big thank you to all the adults who helped make the visit possible.

Year 2 is asking for any spare

tissue boxes, shoe boxes and

long grey socks to use for DT

activities - by end of next

week, please.

Hazel - Lily Cook for being a kind

friend.

Beech - Hayan Zafar for trying hard

with the ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ story.

Chestnut - Lucy Hollingsbee for trying

her best at all times.

Oak - Josh Stimson for always working

hard and doing his best.

Pine - Emaan Zahir for trying really

hard in class.

Hawthorn - Poppy Davies for working

Larch - Charlie Bromhead for a brilliant

rainforest photo collage.

Birch - Emily Alexander for beautiful

artwork based around the rainforest.

Rowan - Alexander Keane for always

trying his best at all times and working

well with others.

Willow - Jamie Hill for being extremely

polite and helpful to everyone.

Laurel - Abigail Harrison for her posi-

tive attitude to school, always trying her

best and being super helpful and polite.

Holly - Ruby Sutton for writing an ex-

cellent ‘Alex Rider’ diary entry.

Congratulations to the Golden Book Winners

Week beginning 16 June

Freddie’s day at the AEGON Classic Freddie Plummer, in Year 4, Birch Class, has been moving up the ranks in tennis over recent years, but last week was particularly special for him. Freddie was involved in the AEGON Classic tournament in London, play-ing for the South East team of Under 9s and Under 10s. They played against the Midlands team and after some great matches the South East won! The kids had a great day, as after their matches they were able to watch the pros on cen-tre court, as well as at the warm up courts. They met lots of the players and enjoyed au-tograph hunting and being pho-tographed with them too. Well done Freddie - we will look out for you at Wimbledon one day!

Ice cream will be sold every

Friday until 18th July. They are

available from the Infant kitch-

en window hatch into the play-

ground (outside Year 2 class-

rooms)

Please find your copy of the pro-

gramme for the Summer Fayre

2014 attached with this newsletter.

We have great stalls and attrac-

tions as well as performances in the

arena. At the time of writing the

weather forecast is great so it

should be a fantastic day out for all

the family.
