Welcome Back to Term TwoFor the past few weeks we have been working hard on the VRQA School review. This is a review of schools by the Education Department which evaluates how schools are functioning and meeting the legal requirements of the Government. It is an extensive process which covers all aspect of the school including, management, financials and education. The paperwork was completed and sent in on Monday.

This winter term is a relatively short term and the teachers will be focused on getting their reports done and ready for posting out at the end of term. I will be reading all the reports before they are sent out.

We welcome two new teachers onto our staff this term, Marie Odendaal who will be working in Support Education (Numeracy) and Louise who is taking on Drama in the High School. Louise O’Dwyer is taking over the drama from Richard who has left us for a life of surf and sun on the southern coast. We wish him well.

The new school website will be going online very soon and our promotional video is featured on the SEA website (Steiner Education Australia) at the moment and we are getting some great feedback from it.

We are very happy to see that Summer Lyle-Holmes, (Sophia Mundi Graduate 2013) has been accepted into the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Summer is hoping to pursue a career in Diplomacy or in the life of Politics after completing a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Services. We wish her and all other graduates from 2013 all the very best in their future endeavours.

The Policies and Guidelines for the management of Anaphylaxis are changing. We are currently re-writing our policy and will be communicating further with the community about this issue. Please remember that at present there are 4 children at school who have an Anaphylaxis Management Plans and that we should always consider them in our class celebrations or where ever food is provided. Exciting News from the IB Theatre Class!Dominic Phillips, a member of our Class 11 IB Programme has been elected as a Youth Ambassador for the Melbourne Theatre Company. The ambassadors meet monthly where they watch and evaluate theatre productions, meet actors and gain insight into the workings of a theatre.Dom is delighted with this opportunity as he believes that theatre is a really important avenue for young people who lack confidence in their everyday lives. He hopes this experience will allow him to spread the wonders of theatre to other young people.

Michelle’s Art Room - Federation Story Federation Story is a free interactive exhibition at Federation Square that traces the events, people and ideas that led to Federation. They have recently featured Michelle, our senior school art teacher. The article gives wonderful insight into Michelle’s career and her inspiration for the classroom here at Sophia Mundi. To view the article go to: http://www.federationstory.com/michelles-art-room/

Goodbye to Our Exchange StudentsDuring Term 1 we had the pleasure of hosting three french exchange students. At the end of their time here they left us with thankyou letters that they wished to share. “Thank you for everything, thank you for your welcome. I was delighted to do this exhange here, it is hard to believe that it’s already finished and that we are leaving really soon. I encourage everybody who wants to do an exchange to do it, because even if it’s sad to leave all the people you’ve met during your trip, it is a fabulous experience. Thankyou again”The three Sophia Mundi students partaking in the exchange are safely there, we look forward to their stories upon their return.
