The need:Childhood cancer in the developing worldEach year 300,000 children develop cancer worldwide. That is 800 children per day. In the developed world with access to quality care, more than 80% of them can survive and live full and healthy lives. However, in the countries we work in in the developing world survival rates can be as low as 10%. In these countries, tens of thousands of children die needlessly every year, most without any effective pain relief.

Our solutionWorld Child Cancer supports the diagnosis, treatment and care for children with cancer in the developing world. We achieve this via our twinning partnerships between hospitals in the developing world and those in the developed world. We also support treatment costs for lower income families, provide ward equipment and fund essential staff posts. In order to affect long term sustainable change, we also deliver awareness raising programmes and liaise with policy makers both in country and in the UK.

Cho Cho, who is nearly three years old, loves clothes, dominoes and building blocks.

It took two days by bus for Cho Cho and her mother to travel from their home to Yangon. Cho Cho’s dad, who is a farmer, is still tending to the family business.

Neither Cho Cho nor her mum have seen him since they parted. Normal life is on hold: mother and daughter sleep and eat in the hospital, and receive little help from wider family.

Meet Cho Cho.She was diagnosed with leukaemia four months ago and has been in hospital since…

World Child Cancer supports many children like Cho Cho in Myanmar by funding training for doctors, treatment, transports costs and raising awareness of childhood cancer.

In the developed world survival rates can be as

high as 80%, whereas in the developing world it

can be as low as 10%. Help us even the odds.

Chimango lives in Northern Malawi with his mother, father and five siblings where they farm a small piece of land to earn a living.

His mother first noticed something was wrong when she saw that his neck was swollen and sore. He had a fever, flu-like symptoms, was nauseous and always tired.

For three months Chimango received chemotherapy treatment.

At 7 years old Chimango was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, a fast spreading cancer.

Get your school involved and help us treat other patients like Cho Cho and Chimango.

On the next page there are lots of fantastic fundraising ideas for your school to get involved in!

Chimango is now at home and enjoying being back at school with his friends. You can help make this a reality for other children undergoing treatment.
