IT’S SNOWING
Despite the frozen fingers and toes, there was great excitement when the snow started
falling on Friday. The expressions on faces in these photos tell the story.

SCOTSBURN NEWS
Meet
Claire Morris
What are your first impressions of Scotsburn Primary? Scotsburn has been so welcoming and the students, parents and staff have been wonderfully helpful in my first week at the school. My first impressions are that Scotsburn is a supportive and tight knit campus with the continued support of its bigger sibling, Buninyong. It is a very personalised and tailored school where everyone cares and supports each other.
What is something you are looking forward to doing with the Scotsburn students? The things I am looking forward to doing the most with the Scotsburn students is getting to know everyone, learning together and having loads of fun in the process. Already we've started doing just that.
What do you like to do when you are not teaching?
When I'm not teaching I love to spend time with my family and friends, explore the great outdoors, play sport and travel to new places.
Tell us something interesting about yourself. I have lived outside of Australia for nearly 1/3 of my life. Two of my favourite places to live and travel are Africa and South-East Asia.
Debating results On Tuesday the 29
th of July
Jessica Ockwell, Mia Lepair and Rhys Smith competed in the Royal South Street Debating. After an exciting
debate we won and we are very grateful to Natasha Adam (Mia’s mum) for all of her hard work in preparing us. A huge thank you also to Millie Kirby and Isaiah Wallis for putting in so much extra work towards our team.
If you would like to purchase a DVD of your child’s South Street Competition debate, please contact N.L. Harvey and Sons on 53312742. I am not sure of the price, or if you get a DVD of one debate or a DVD of all heats. If it is just your own child’s debate, you will need to know exactly what debate number your child was in. Scotsburn were debate 8.
We received great news late last week that our team has now made it through to the Semi-finals. Congratulations and good luck.
Jeans for Genes Day Last week the Scotsburn staff and students supported the Jeans for Genes Day fundraiser. We raised over $60. Well done everyone.
Casserole Tea Just a reminder about our upcoming tea with Rosemary Barr on Friday 8
th August from
5.30pm. Don’t forget to bring along a casserole to share.
Don’t forget your payment of $15 for half year or $30.00 if you haven’t done so already. Please ensure money is given in to the Buninyong office or your teachers A.S.A.P.
School uniforms Recently we have notice a handful of students not wearing the correct uniform at school. Please remind your child/children to wear the appropriate school uniform.

Question:
'What is Kabuki?'
Answer:
It is a traditional form of dance drama.
There were only 40 entries so there was only one winner.
Winner is: Sam McGregor from 3DS
Maddy Coffey
Maddie was involved in a running game in Physical Education. She noticed that a class mate tripped
over and fell on the floor. She went out of her way to make sure that they where alright. Very Kind!

Grade 5/6 South Street Debating Cup Challenge 2014
Last week we had four Buninyong teams and one Scotsburn team compete in the South Street Debating Competition.
All heats were very close, with Buninyong teams 2, 3, 4 and Scotsburn winning their debates. Only the four top scoring teams of the heats go into the semi finals. Congratulations and good luck to Buninyong Team 1 and Scotsburn who were successful in achieving this. The semis take place on Monday 18
th August.
Well done to all of the competitors, including our reserves, as it has involved many hours of preparation (during class, at lunch times and at home) and all speakers did an amazing job. Such talented debaters! I am very proud of them.
Congratulations to the children who participated –
Will Deans, Casey Gordijn, Remmi Sheehan, Charlotte Allan, Aysha Bailey, Sharnee Hitchcock, Emily Findlay, Olivia Reyntjes, Daisy Rogers, Sophie Wood, Jemma Vermeend, Amity Egan, Chloe Matthews, Grace Vermeend, Meena McCartin, Kirra Ward, Jessica Ockwell, Mia Lepair, Rhys Smith, Millie Kirby and Izzy Wallis.
Thank you,
Kelly Geddes.
Emergency management
At Buninyong, we are committed to ensuring that we are as ready as possible for dealing with any emergencies. We have an Emergency Management Team at both Buninyong and Scotsburn and each team is responsible for the Emergency Management Plan at their campus.
In case of emergency it is vital that all staff and students mobilise quickly and calmly to ensure the safety of all concerned.
There are 2 main emergency drills that we practise with the children. The first is an evacuation drill which may be done in a situation of a fire in a building or something like a gas leak.
The other emergency drill that we practise is a lockdown drill for when staff and students must stay inside the building due to some kind of immediate danger outside, such as a violent storm or a vicious dog in the grounds.
We will be having two practice drills over the coming weeks at school. Teachers will be talking to their classes about these upcoming drills, they will discuss with the students the steps that they must take in the event of an emergency and they will reiterate the importance of staying calm and listening to instructions from the teacher.
When the emergency siren sounds it is always accompanied by an announcement that we are having an “Emergency Drill”.
Parents may wish to discuss these things with their children also. Please talk to your children about the need to stay calm and not be scared by these practice drills.
This may also be a great time to talk about safety in your home as well. Talk to your children about your own home evacuation plan and practice it!
Emergencies can happen without warning and it is vital that we are prepared; as the safety of
our children and staff is always paramount.
