How do you know what level

course your child should take?

• Things to consider– Recommendation of 8th grade teacher

– Assessment Data• MSAs

– Advanced, Proficient, Basic– MSA scores of Proficient in either Math or Reading equal a 75%

correlation to a pass rate on the High School Assessments• Proficient scores on MSA should indicate that the

student will meet with success in Level 6 courses – Students who are testing as Basic should consider remedial

courses such as Reading or in math taking Level 1 Conceptual Algebra

• SRIs – Indicate Level of Reading Proficiency– Most high school reading materials are at 1,000

Lexile or Higher– Students less than 1,000 will be asked to retest

(early summer) or take Reading course

• Advisory sessions meet weekly for 35 minutes

• Program is based upon a county curriculum and state mandates

KEY Time• 4 days per week for 35 minutes• Students have the time to work with

their teachers on remediation or enrichment
