M.4 Field Trip for Studying the King’s Philosophy (1-5 February 2013) This trip was to enhance M.4 students’ understanding of the King’s Philosophy on Sufficiency Economy and evaluate their progress in Young Guide and Social Studies subjects. The kids were assigned to integrate their classroom knowledge of these two courses with what they actually learned during the trip before coming up with creative presentations. What’s interesting about this trip was that the students got to see many local intellects and gained first-hand knowledge from seeing, listening and practicing. Their conscience was also developed by seeing examples of honest and content people who live with sufficiency.

Study and Life Skills Trip for M.1 (7-13 March 2013) M.1 students gained new knowledge and enhanced their life skills through a field trip to various provinces in the central and northeast of Thailand. The students explored many sites before crossing the border to Laos, where all of them learned how to help each other in unfamiliar environments. The trip raised their awareness of the ASEAN Community and indirectly guided them on how to apply sufficiency economy into their daily lives. On their way back to Phuket, the M.1 also visited Harrow International School in Bangkok, where they saw how their fellow students studied.

Taste Phuket Food Project for M.1 (16 February 2013) In order to understand local identity, M.1 students spent a day surveying old Phuket town and two local landmarks; the Mine Museum in Kathu and the Local Museum at Phuket

Rajabhat University. The kids also got to taste various signature menus of Phuket at a local food center. This trip, together with what they have learned in Our Local subject, allowed the M.1 students to have better understanding of their own province.

English Curriculum Program (ECP)ECP Update The second semester of Academic Year 2012 has passed successfully with a lot of success. The students worked hard on their courses and expressed themselves confidently and creatively in all activities. Here are examples of our memorable events.

Becoming Global Citizens Abroad for M.3 (29 September - 19 October 2012) This trip to Oregon, USA introduced M.3 students to the American ways of life and traditions. The students’ English skills were greatly improved and their perspectives were widened by living in an international environment. The trip made it more possible for the English Curriculum Program to develop smart and considerate global citizens.

Becoming Global Citizens Abroad for M.5 (30 September - 22 October 2012) This trip took the M.5 students to Boston, USA to have a first-hand experience learning the traditions, culture and ways of life of the people in America. The trip encouraged the students to use English at an international level in a native-speaking country.

Daniel Ho’s Visit (4 December 2012) Daniel Ho, a U.S. Arts Envoy, world-renowned ukulele performer, and Grammy Award winner, visited Satree Phuket School to perform with his ukulele, a uniquely American art form. The students were taught how to play the famous song ‘Pineapple-Mango’ and were introduced to the hula dance and other Hawaiian culture. The students had a lot of fun doing the activity.

iPad Training In order to ready ECP members to learning with iPads the next semester, several training courses were provided for administrators, teaching staff, homeroom teachers and officers to enhance themselves. Everybody was guided on how to use an iPad by specialized trainers from NetOp Company. The courses featured how to use iPad applications for teaching and how to create educational materials by using iMac and MacBook. All trainees practiced how to use the devices together and created their own work. With the trainers’ guidance and tips, the outcome materials were usable and interesting. There was also iPad training in the Preparatory Courses for M.1 and M.4 during the school holidays.

Curriculum Criticism The English Curriculum Program was grateful to have honorable educators, administrators, parents, alumni and representatives from local organizations participating in the IP Curriculum Criticism 2013. The ECP curriculum was critiqued in various aspects, leading to a lot of solutions to make it more international, up-to-date and able to meet the needs of its local community.

English Training for SPK Teachers The English Curriculum Program provided English courses for all Thai teachers in Satree Phuket School. The courses focused on English in the workplace and English for communication since our teachers need to use the language effectively when Thailand officially becomes part of the ASEAN Community. The teachers studied in groups during their free periods throughout the semester.

ECP in Action The English Curriculum Program also takes enhancing the quality of teaching seriously. Throughout the second semester, we completed three significant developments.
