Note : (1) Numbers outside the bracket indicates Marks.
(2) Numbers inside the bracket indicates Questions.
(3) Internal choices to Questions to be given in the following Units, which are comparatively have more contents for 2, 3
and 4 Marks. The Units are 2, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 15.
(4) In case of Questions on proving theorems, the Choice Questions can be the converse of the theorems OR
Corollary having equal weightage in marks.
(5) In case of Questions on Riders based on theorems, Choice Questions to be the Riders based on the same

ON TIPS NOTESNotes making is a skill that we use in many walks of life : at school, university and in the world of work. However, accurate notes making requires a thorough understanding of concepts. We, at Oswaal, have tried to encapsulate all the chapters from the given syllabus into the following ON TIPS NOTES. These notes will not only facilitate better understanding of concepts, but will also ensure that each and every concept is taken up and every chapter is covered in totality. So, go ahead and use these your advantage.... go get the OSWAAL ADVANTAGE!!
NCHAPTER 1 : SetsSets : A collection of well defined objects is known as sets.
Ø Set of Numbers 1. N : The set of natural numbers2. W : The set of whole numbers3. Z : The set of integers4. Q : The set of rational numbers5. R : The set of real numbers6. Z+ : The set of positive integers7. Q+ : The set of positive rational numbers8. R+ : The set of positive real numbers
9. C : The set of all complex numbers
Ø Example of Roster and Set Builder Form :Roster Form Set Builder Form(i) {P, R, I, N, C, A, L} (a) {x : x is a letter of the
word PRINCIPAL}(ii) {1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18} (b) {x : x is a positive
integer and is a divisor of 18}
(iii) {3, – 3} (c) {x : x is an integer and x2 – 9 = 0}
Types of SetsType Definition Example
Empty Set (Null or Void)
A set which does not contain any element.
A = {x : 1 < x < 2, x is a natural number}
Finite Set A set which is empty or consists of a definite number of elements.
A = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}A = f
Infinite Set A set which consists of an indefinite number of elements.
{x : x ∈ N and x is prime}
Equal Set Two sets A and B are said to be equal if they have exactly the same elements.
A = {1, 2, 3, 4}B = {3, 1, 4, 2}Then A = B
Subset A set A is said to be a subset of a set B if every element of A is also an element of B.
A ⊂ B if a ∈ A ⇒ a ∈ BA = {1, 3}, C = {1, 5, 9}, B = {1, 3, 5, 7, 9} thenA ⊂ BC ⊂ B
Power Set The collection of all subsets of a set A. If A = {1, 2}, thenP(A) = {f, {1}, {2}, {1, 2}}
Universal Set If there are some sets under consideration then there happens to be a set which is a superset of each one of the given set. Such a set is called the universal set.
The set of all integers, all the people in the world.
