General Information

University of Delhi

● Eligibility ConditionsThe candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Programme must possess

the qualifications under any one of the eligibility categories :

Eligibility Category– I

(i) Bachelor’s degree or any other qualification recognized equivalent thereto from the Universityof Delhi or any other recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in the10 + 2 + 3 pattern or 11 + 2 + 2 pattern or a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate in the 10 + 2+ 2 pattern or 11 + 3 pattern.

(ii) The candidate would be required to offer two teaching subjects from List-I or List-IIIdepending upon the courses offered by him/her at the graduation level, subject to his/herhaving obtained a minimum of 45% marks in each of the subjects offered.

Eligibility Category– II

A Master’s degree or any other qualification recognised equivalent thereto in any one of thesubjects from List-I, from the University of Delhi or any other recognised University, with at least50% marks in aggregate.

OR

A Master’s degree in Philosophy, Psychology or Sociology from the University of Delhi or anyother recognised University, with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

OR

A Master’s degree in Commerce from the University of Delhi or any other recognised university,with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

OR

(i) A master’s degree of any other qualification recognized equivalent thereto from the Universityof Delhi or any other recognized University, with at least 50% marks in aggregate in a subjectnot mentioned in List-I or List-II.

(ii) The candidate would be required to offer two teaching subjects from List-I or List-IIIdepending upon the courses offered by him/her at the graduation level, subject to his/herhaving obtained a minimum of 45% marks in each of the subjects offered.

● Method of SelectionA. Entrance Examination

All eligible candidates will be required to appear for Entrance Tests, Group Discussion andInterviews at their own expenses, on the dates and timings specified in the admission schedule, atthe Department or any other venue notified on the notice Board of CIE and on the CIE website.

Candidates from each of the subject cateogory (Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Humanities andothers) will compete among their own cateogory. The Entrance Tests will consist of the following :

(i) Objective Tests Marks(a) General Awareness Test 40

(b) Intelligence Test 30

(c) Teaching Aptitude & Sensitivity Test 20

(d) Comprehension Test 30

(ii) Descriptive Test

● Description of Tests(I) Objective Test

(a) General Awareness Test : The General Awarenes Test assesses the knowledge of thecandidate in various fields which includes school subjects, education and current nationaland international affairs. This Test Comprises of two Section–A & B.Section – A For Science Students onlySection – B For Humanities and Social Science Students.

Do not attempt both section A and B.

(b) Intelligence Test : The Intelligence Test tests the mental capability of the candidates. Thistest would include areas which will assess mental abilities, such as reasoning (inductiveand deductive), identifying and understanding the relationship/principle among the variouselements or objects, decision making, data analysis and interpretation.

(c) Teaching Aptitude and Sensitivity Test : This test focusses on assessing sensitivity toissue related to the growing child, school, family and society and probes the candidates’general disposition and attitude towards teaching.

(d) Comprehension Test : The Comprehension Test aims at assessing the candidates’language comprehension skills, either in English or in Hindi, as per their choice.

(II) Descriptive Test

Expression Test : The Expression Test aims at assessing the candidates’ written expressionskills in English or Hindi language, as per their choice. Candidates’ may answer either inEnglish or in Hindi, but the same medium must be used throughout the Test.

B. Group Discusion and InterviewsA limited number of candidates will be called for Group Discussion and interviews (on the basis oftheir performance in the written exam.). Each candidate will be required to participate in a GroupDiscussion and two subject interviews (in each of the two school subjects he/she has chosen). Thegeneral aspects of personality will also be assessed through these interviews. The weightage will beas follows :(a) Group Discussion : 10 marks

(b) Subject Interview-I : 25 marks

(c) Subject Interview-II : 25 marks

Candidates, who have not participated in the Group Discussion, will not be allowed to appearfor the interviews.

At the time of Interview, candidates offering subjects at A-Level, will be assessed with regard totheir understanding of the subject content at the secondary (VI to X Std.) and graduation levels.Those offering the teaching subject at B-Level, will be assessed with regard to their understandingof the subject content at the Sr. Sec. (XI & XII Std.), graduation and post-graduation level. Thoseoffering the teaching subject at C-Level, will be assessed with regard to their understanding ofsubject content at school level only.

C. Final SelectionA list of candidates finally selected, will be prepared strictly in order of merit, based on theircombined performance in the Entrance Exam, Group Discussion and Interviews and theirpreference of institutions. In case of tie, if any, the candidate older in age shall rank higher. Thelist will be prepared for the respective institutions separately, strictly according to merit. Thesecandidates will be required to deposit the tuition fee and other due in their respective institutions,within the period stipulated for the purpose, failing which the selection will stand automaticallycancelled without any further notice.Once, allocated, no request for change of institution shall be considered.

(a) Candidates having passed Bachelor’s degree in humanities and social sciences with aminimum of 50% (Fifty per cent) marks in aggregate from a recognized University and havingstudied any one of the following subjects :

(i) English, (ii) Hindi, (iii) Sanskrit, (iv) Urdu, (v) Mathematics, (vi) Civics/Political Science,(vii) Geography, (viii) History, (ix) Economics.

Note : (i) The candidate must have passed at least two subjects out of the list of the teachingsubjects for graduates. These two subjects should be available as teaching subjects inthe institute/college in which the candidate seeks to take admission;

(ii) The candidate who has studied either Civics (Political Science) or History orGeography or Economics will be eligible to take Social Sciences as one of theteaching subject;

(iii) The second teaching subject can be chosen either from the main subjects or subsidiarysubjects passed by the candidate at the graduation level or at 12th level.

(b) Candidates having passed Bachelor’s degree in Science with a minimum of 50% (Fifty percent) marks in aggregate from a recognized university and having studied any one of thefollowing subjects :

(i) Physics, (ii) Chemistry, (iii) Mathematics, (iv) Biology,

(v) Botany, (vi) Zoology, (vi) Life Science.

Note : (i) The candidate must have passed at least two subjects out of the list of the teachingsubjects for graduates. These two subjects should be available as teaching subjects inthe institute/college in which the candidate seeks to take admission;

(ii) The candidate who has passed a paper either in Physics or Chemistry or Biology orBotany or Zoology or Life Science will be eligible to take Integrated Science as one ofthe teaching subject;

(iii) The second teaching subject can be chosen either from the main subjects or subsidiarysubjects passed by the candidate at the graduation level or at 12th level.

(c) However, the candidates having done B. Com. (Pass/Hons), Bachelor of Journalism (MassCommunication), BBA, BA (Vocational) are not eligible for the B.Ed. programme. If acandidate having any of these degrees applies for Common Entrance Test for B. Ed.programme, he or she will not be allowed to appear in the Test and if by default, he or sheappears in the test, the admission will not be granted to such a candidate.

2. For Post Graduates :

Candidates having done post-graduation degree with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from arecognized university and having studied any one of the following :

(i) English; (ii) Hindi; (iii) Sanskrit; (iv) Physics;

(v) Chemistry; (vi) Mathematics; (vii) Biology; (viii) Botany;

( viii )

(ix) Zoology; (x) Biotechnology; (xi) Life Science; (xii) Chemistry;

(xiii) Accountancy; (xiv) Business Studies; (xv) History; (xvi) Political Science;

(xvii) Economics; (xviii) Geography; (xix) Psychology.

Note : (i) The candidate will be allotted one of the teaching subjects from the subjects listedabove provided the same is being offered by the institute/college where the candidateseeks to take admission. The list of the teaching subjects being offered by theinstitutes/colleges for post-graduate.

(ii) The candidate who has passed a paper either in Botany or in Zoology or inBiotechnology or in Bio-Chemistry or Life Science will be eligible to take Biology asone of the teaching subject.

(iii) The second teaching subject can be chosen either from the main subjects or subsidiarysubjects passed by the candidate at post-graduation level or at graduation level.
